24 Japan - An Identical Remake of the First Season of Famous US Series Starring Kiefer Sutherland

I did not know the existence of this series until I saw it on Disney+ which made me curious. It was said to be based on the highly popular and one of my major favorite series 24. As it was released one episode per week, I had to wait quite a long time before the whole season was complete. Well let us find out more, shall we?

This movie was just released in Indonesian cinemas yesterday. Unlike our past habit to wait till the weekend to see, we decided to do it yesterday. It played in many theaters including the one that was located very near our home. Well let's get to the details now.

Claire Redfield (Kaya Scodelario - Crawl, Spinning Out TV series etc) returned back to her hometown Raccoon city in 1998 to meet with her older brother Chris (Robbie Amell - Desperados, Upload TV series etc) as she suspected something was happening there related to the Umbrella Corporation. Chris was working with the police department together with fellow officers such as Jill Valentine (Hannah John-Kamen - Ant-man and the Wasp, The Stranger TV series etc), Wesker (Tom Hopper - Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard, Blak Sails TV series etc), the rookie cop Leon (Avan Jogia - Ghost Wars TV series etc) and few others under captain Irons (Donal Lugue - Gotham TV series etc).

Clifford the Big Red Dog - The First Live Action Adaptation of the Popular Children's Books Series

This movie's trailer was shown many times before the start of films that my wife and I saw in theaters. It actually looked funny which was why both of us were interested in seeing it. The movie itself was finally released on Christmas day but perhaps due to so many new movies playing in theaters, it was only shown in very limited theaters with few shows. Anyway my wife and I managed to see this one yesterday. So let's get going then.

Brief Story Line

A young girl named Emily Elizabeth (Darby Camp - The Christmas Chronicles 2 etc) was feeling down as she was being bullied by her school friends. Luckily she still got a good friend named Owen Yu (Izaac Wang - Raya and the Last Dragon etc) to cheer her up. As Emily's mother Maggie (Sienna Guillory - The Warriors Gate etc) had to go on a business trip, she had no choice but to ask her younger brother Casey (Jack Whitehall - Bad Education TV series etc) to babysit Emily.

Don't Look Up - Surprisingly Quite Enjoyable for a Satirical Sci-fi Movie, Though it Could be Depressing for Some

When this movie was released on Netflix on Friday, I was unable to watch it as I was seeing a movie in the cinema with my wife. So I only managed to watch it last night. It was interesting for me as the lead cast were well known A-list Hollywood stars. OK let us start with it now.

But when her professor Doctor Mindy (Leonardo DiCaprio - Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Catch Me If You Can etc) did a calculation, they realized that it was heading straight to earth and would result to a catastrophic event. Both were immediately invited together with fellow colleague Dr. Teddy Oglethorpe (Rob Morgan - The Unforgivable, Greyhound etc) to the White House to present their findings to President Orlean (Meryl Streep - Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, The Post etc) and her Chief of Staff Jason (Jonah Hill - True Story, This is the End etc).

The Matrix Resurrections - Satisfying in Term of Actions Sequence though Story Telling Might be too Slow and Heavy for Casual Viewers

So there's another sequel to one of the beloved movie franchise that I was intrigued to see. But as I mentioned in my previous posts, I waited till the weekend to see it in the cinemas. This time we saw it in the location where it also showed another movie that my wife and I were eyeing for. OK let's get this started then.

Brief Story Line

Thomas Anderson (Keanu Reeves - John Wick movies, The Whole Truth etc) was working in video game company together with his boss (Jonathan Groff - Frozen II, Glee TV series etc). As a successful developer of the hit game The Matrix, Thomas seemed unable to differentiate reality with illusion and had to visit a psychiatrist (Neil Patrick Harris - 8-Bit Christmas, How I Met Your Mother TV series etc). Thomas also had a strange feeling of attachment with a woman named Tiffany (Carrie-Anne Moss - Jessica Jones TV series, Memento etc) who looked like the character Trinity in The Matrix.

Teka Teki Tika - A Review by Yennymakanmulu

This movie had been in our radar since it was advertised some time ago. It was directed by one of the very few Indonesian directors who was the favorite of my wife and mine so we certainly wanted to give it a try. Alas as it did not play in the theater near our home on the day of its release, we had to wait till the weekend to see it in one of the limited cinemas showing the film. The King's Man - Interesting Prequel of the Kingsman Franchise

It was one of those days where two major new Hollywood movies were released on the same day. Add to that one interesting Indonesian movie that was shown on the following day, made this week a nice time for movie lovers. My wife and I planned to see two movies during the weekend, so we decided to see one of those 3 films in the weekday. Ultimately we chose this one that played in the theater very near our home. OK, let's get to the details now.

Set before the World War I period, Duke Orlando Oxford (Ralph Fiennes - No Time to Die, The Lego Batman Movie etc) was a pacifist who was trying to protect his only son Conrad (Harris Dickinson - Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, Beach Rats etc) from going to war. Conrad was taken care from childhood by his nanny Polly (Gemma Arterton - The Girl with All the Gifts, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time etc) and Orlando's trusted confidante Shola (Djimon Hounsou - Shazam!, Captain Marvel etc).

(TV SERIES) Hawkeye Season 1 - Plenty of Fun Superhero Series from Marvel with Some Cool Old Fashion Action & Wonderful for Christmas

As a series that focused on one of the least developed character in MCU, this one was something that I looked forward to since I like Hawkeye quite a lot (especially my wife who is a major fan). Like other series released on Disney+, I had to wait till the whole season complete to have a better experience in watching it. The last episode was shown yesterday but I started watching the series a day before, so I managed to finish it quite early. All right, let us get into it then.

So when it was announced that advance ticket sales would be available few days earlier, we purchased the tickets as early as we could. Both of us decided to see the film on Saturday instead of the first day like we used to. Without further ado, let us get on with the movie.

Back to the Outback - Fun Animated Movie for Whole Family

Last weekend, there were not that many new movies that I was totally interested in, which I thought would be the best time for me to catch up on some series. But when my wife told me this film was fun, she recommended that we watch it together. So we did watch it yesterday and here's my views.

Brief Story Line

The Australian Wildlife Park was famous among families and children as it was having a well known zookeeper named Chazz (Eric Bana - King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, The Finest Hours etc). One of the main attraction of the zoo was the cute and adorable koala bear named Pretty Boy (Tim Minchin - Robin Hood 2018 version etc). In addition, there were also a bunch of wild animals feared by the visitors such as the venomous snake called Maddie (Isla Fisher - Godmothered, Visions etc), the funnel-web spider Frank (Guy Pearce - Without Remorse, Mare of Easttown mini series etc), the thorny devil Zoe (Miranda Tapsell), the scorpion Nigel (Angus Imrie) and the crocodile Jackie (Jacki Weaver - Silver Linings Playbook, Animal Kingdom etc).

The Croods:A New Age - A Fun Sequel of the Successful 2013 Hit Movie

On Friday, this movie was released on HBO Go platform which I was interested as it was a sequel to the 2013 movie that my wife and I enjoyed. But as there was new movie released in Indonesian theaters on that day, we opted to see that one instead and only watched this yesterday. All right let us get to it now.

Brief Story Line

After the events from the first movie, the Croods led by the father Grug (Nicolas Cage - The Humanity Bureau, USS Indianapolis: Men of Courage etc) with his wife Ugga (Catherine Keener - Brand New Cherry Flavor TV series, Incredibles 2 etc), their oldest daughter Eep (Emma Stone - Cruella, Zombieland: Double Tap etc), only son Thunk (Clark Duke - Kick-Ass, The Office TV series etc), the grandmother Gran (Cloris Reachman - Raising Hope TV series, Spanglish etc) and the toddler Sandy were still trying to find the best location for them to stay. Accompanied by Guy (Ryan Reynolds - Free Guy, Deadpool 2 etc) who was developing romantic relationship with Eep despite the objection from Grug, they somehow find a paradise-like place.

(TV SERIES) La Brea Season 1 - An Engaging Sci-fi Drama Series

Few weeks ago I found out about this new series that started to be shown on HBO Go platform which immediately intrigued me. But since it was released an episode a week, I had to wait till it was finally completed before I began binge watching it. With only 10 episodes, I managed to finish it in 1 weekend. So here goes.

Brief Story Line

During a normal day in Los Angeles, Eve (Natalie Zea - Justified TV series etc) was driving her teenaged son Josh (Jack Martin) and Izzy (Zyra Gorecki) to school when suddenly a massive sink hole appeared in La Brea, bringing down buildings, vehicles and lots of people as well. Eve's estranged husband Gavin (Eoin Macken - The Night Shift TV series etc) was shocked but he believed that his family actually survived the catastrophe and tried to convince the government to do a rescue mission.

Raging Fire - The Satisfying Final Directorial Work of Benny Chan

When I found out that there was going to be a new Donnie Yen's movie coming to the cinemas soon, I was very excited about it. So immediately as the film released on Friday, I planned to see it together with my wife during the weekend. Alas when we were searching for the cinemas showing this movie on Saturday, the theaters playing it were reduced significantly. Fortunately we found one that was near our home and played at 5 PM which was still reasonable. Anyway, I should get right on it now.

As a senior police investigator, Bong (Donnie Yen - Big Brother, Ip Man 4 etc) was known by his senior supervisors as a no nonsense cop with high moral compass. Unfortunately such trait prove to be challenging for his career development. Even his direct supervisors were having difficulty in reminding him to cooperate better, especially since Bong's wife Anna (Qin Lan - Story of Yanxi Palace TV series etc) was pregnant and he would soon become a father.

Ghostbusters: Afterlife - A Pretty Satisfying Direct Sequel to the Original Movies

Yesterday my wife and I went to the cinema to see this Wednesday-released movie that we were intrigued. It was not that hard finding a location, especially since now we could officially went inside freely using the apps designed for Covid-19 tracing. The hard part was to find a location that also showed another movie that I wanted to see after this. After considering various factors, we finally decided to see it in my favorite large theater with a good sound system as I wanted to experience the sound effects. All right then, let's head to the movie.

Brief Story Line

When her father passed away, Callie (Carrie Coon - The Leftovers TV series, The Nest etc) together with her teenage son Trevor (Finn Wolfhard - The Addams Family, The Turning etc) and daughter Phoebe (Mckenna Grace - Annabelle Comes Home, Spirit Untamed etc) went to the small town of Summerville to take care of her small inheritance. Phoebe went to summer school where she befriended with a boy called Podcast (Logan Kim) and the teacher Mr. Grooberson (Paul Rudd - Ant-man and the Wasp, Knocked Up etc). Meanwhile Trevor was immediately attracted to local girl named Lucky (Celeste O'Connor - Freaky etc).

The Boss Baby: Family Business - Still as Fun and Cute as its 2017 Predecessor

There were few new movies released in Indonesian cinemas during this week. My wife and I were interested with some of them but ultimately we decided to see this comedy movie first because I personally was looking for something light and fun after days of serious works. Now I will dive into it.

30 years after the events in The Boss Baby, Tim (James Marsden - Sonic the Hedgehog, The Notebook etc) was now a grown up and married to Carol (Eva Longoria - Dora and the Lost City of Gold etc) with 2 daughters Tabitha (Ariana Greenbalt) and the baby Tina. As an adult, Tim grew apart with his younger brother Ted (Alec Baldwin - Motherless Brooklyn, Drunk Parents etc) and have not spoken for quite some time.

(TV SERIES) I Know What You Did Last Summer Season 1 - A Long Version Adaptation of the 1973 Novel with Different Style Compared to the 1997 Movie

After premiering its first four episodes back in October on Prime Videos, I was waiting for it to complete before starting to watch the whole season. But somehow I forgotten about this and only realized few days ago that the first season have all been released for more than 2 weeks. Anyway, I just got the chance to watch it since Sunday and finished it yesterday. So, how was the series? Let's find out now, shall we?

Brief Story Line

Lennon and Alison (both played by Madison Iseman - Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween, Annabelle Comes Home etc) were twin sisters who went to the graduation party held by Lennon's best friend Margot (Brianne Tju - 47 Meters Down: Uncaged, Scream TV series etc). While Alison was a shy and depressed girl, Lennon was a real party girl. In the party, there were also Margot's best friend Johnny (Sebastian Amoruso), Alison's crush Dylan (Ezekiel Goodman) and his best friend Riley (Ashley Moore).

8-Bit Christmas - A Kid-friendly Christmas Movie with Simple Story & Heart Warming Ending

During last weekend, my wife and I decided to watch another movie on Saturday night. It was after we saw 2 new films in a row, so the movie marathon still continued for us that day. After the intensity of the second movie, we chose a light Christmas themed film that was released just few days earlier on HBO Go. OK, I'll just get on with it then.

Brief Story Line

Story was told from the point of view of Jake Doyle (Neil Patrick Harris - Doogie Howser, M. D. TV series, Downsizing etc) who was sharing his childhood experience back in 1988 to his daughter Annie (Sophia Reid-Gantzert) during Christmas eve. Young Jake (Winslow Fegley - Nightbooks etc) was still living with his mother (Jude Diane Raphael - Long Shot etc), father Joe Doyle (Steve Zahn - The White Lotus TV series etc) and younger sister Lizzy (Bellaluna Resnick).

Follow Me - A Thriller Movie Combining Aspects from Other Franchises with a Fine Ending

Yesterday my wife and I decided to see another movie that was just released few days earlier, making it another movie marathon day for us. It intrigued me especially because of the premise. Without further ado, here's more on the movie.

Encanto - Another Disney's Movie with Interesting Characters, Lovely Animation and Lots of Touching Moments

Like in the past few weeks, my wife and I opted to see a new movie that was released during the weekend. This time, it was an animated one from Walt Disney Animation Studios whom we loved as they have produced some wonderful movies in the past. All right, let's get right to it then.

The Madrigal family had been known to have magical gift where they live together in a magical house in Colombia, referred to as "Casita". Mirabel (Stephanie Beatriz - Brooklyn Nine Nine TV series etc) was the only one who did not posses power, which made her grandmother/Abuela (María Cecilia Botero) and herself depressed. Especially when it was compared with Mirabel's older sisters, the perfect Isabela (Diane Guerrero - Doom Patrol TV series etc) and the strong Luisa (Jessica Darrow).

A Boy Called Christmas - A Quite Heartwarming Chrismas Movie with Pretty Interesting Story

Few days ago, this new Christmas themed movie was released on Neflix which quite intrigued me. My wife who is a fan of such movies were definitely interested. But due to some reasons and company function, we only managed to see this one last night. Well now I'll head right to it.

Brief Story Line

The movie focused on a young boy named Nikolas (Henry Lawfull) who lived alone with his father Joel (Michiel Huisman - Kate, 2: 22 etc) in the snowy area of Finland. When the King (Jim Broadbent - Paddington 2 etc) ordered his people to search for something magical that would raise the hope of the kingdom, Joel decided to do so in order to get the reward. 

(TV SERIES) Cowboy Bebop Season 1 - Probably Better if it is an Original Series Rather than a Live Version Remake of the 1998 Popular Anime Series

As mentioned in one of my earlier post, last week there were a bunch of new series and movies released on Netflix. I happened to start watching this few days ago, which took me a while to finish as I could only see 2 or maximum 3 episodes per night. Anyway it was something that interest me as it was a live version of an anime series that I watched first (also available on Netflix) and enjoyed. OK, let's get to it then.

Brief Story Line

Set in the year 2171, Spike Spiegel (John Cho - Wish Dragon, Star Trek Beyond etc) was working as a bounty hunter together with his partner Jet Black (Mustafa Shakir - Luke Cage season 2, The Deuce TV series etc) on their spaceship called Bebop. They later met with another bounty hunter named Faye Valentine (Daniella Pineda - Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, Mercy Black etc) who subsequently became part of their crew.

Losmen Bu Broto - A Review by Yennymakanmulu

Few days ago, this Indonesian movie was released in the cinemas. It was one that my wife has been aiming for, but alas it did not play in the theater near our home. In fact, it was kind of a challenge as not many studios showing this movie. Fortunately though, today we managed to go to one of those few cinemas and bought the tickets for 1.15 PM show. And so how was the movie then? I better let you read all about it through my wife's point of view and her lovely writing as usual. 

[MOVIE] Losmen Bu Broto - Adaptasi dari Seri Televisi Losmen

Udah lama denger kalo bakal ada film Losmen Bu Broto. Dan belakangan gw dpt info kalo bakal tayang Kamis 18 November 2021. Gak sabar kan, secara gw dulu penontonnya Losmen pas masih di TVRI. Masi inget pula gw siapa aja yang jadi Bu Broto, Pak Broto, Mbak Pur, Jeng Sri, Mas Tarjo dan Mas Jarot. Mereka emang pemain inti di rumah penginapan yang mereka sebut sebagai Losmen Srikandi. Sayang sekali saat Kamis tayang itu, Losmen Bu Broto gak main di bioskop sebelah, jadi gw harus mencari waktu di weekend dan ngajak hubby barengan nonton. Untungnya dia mau nemenin gw. Makanya pas bisa nonton di Hollywood XXI, langsung deh gw pesen pake MTix, lumayan ada diskon bogo. Woohoo. Oya, film ini disutradarai Ifa Ifansyah dan Eddy Cahyono, serta diproduseri oleh salah satunya, Mr. Robert Ronny.

(TV SERIES) Hellbound - Another South Korean Series Having Unique Premise based on Webtoon

On Friday, there were a bunch of new movies as well as TV series released on Netflix. Actually I've had my eyes on another series but this one also caught my attention. And I finally decided to watch this South Korean series first as it was having only 6 episodes which should not take a lot of time to finish. This time my wife accompanied me watching it. OK will get to it now.

Brief Story Line

Set in the near future, some scary creatures suddenly appeared to drag sinners to hell after they have been prophesized before. A religious cult called the New Truth led by Jung Jinsu (Yoo Ah-in - Sungkyungkwan Scandal, Secret Affair TV series etc) came to prominent as they seemed to know about the strange phenomenon and encouraged people not to commit a sin to avoid being bound to hell. Detective Kyunghun (Yang Ik-june - Breathless etc) was assigned to investigate this disturbing case.

Venom: Let There Be Carnage - A More Compact Sequel and Entertaining Anti-hero Movie in Spider-man Universe

After few days playing in Indonesian cinemas, my wife and I finally got the chance to see this movie in the theater. But due to some reasons, we were unable to go to my favorite theater with Dolby Atmos system and we went to the one based on convenience and availability instead. Anyway, let's get more to it now.

Brief Story Line

After the events in Venom, Eddie Brock (Tom Hardy - The Dark Knight Rises, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy etc) managed to get an interview session with serial killer Cletus Kasady (Woody Harrelson - Kate, Zombieland: Double Tap etc) which revived his career. However, Eddie's relationship with his ex fiancee Anne Weying (Michelle Williams - The Greatest Showman, Shutter Island etc) was not getting any better.

Few days ago, there were 2 new Japanese movies released on Netflix where one was the sequel to another. Both were having a very intriguing premise which interest me. Last night I finally got the chance to watch the 2 movies together with my wife, so it was kind of a marathon movie night for us. Right now, I am writing for the second movie which was quite brand new as it was released in 2021. 

Brief Story Line

A legendary hit-man known as Fable (Junichi Okada - Sekigahara, A Samurai Chronicle etc) was instructed by his boss to lay low and live a normal life in Osaka for a year. Now he went by the name of Akira Sato and was accompanied by his partner who was assigned as his younger sister named Yoko Sato (Fumino Kimura - 99.9 Criminal Lawyer TV series, Spark etc). While living in Osaka, Sato worked at a publishing company together with his co-worker Misaki (Mizuki Yamamoto - Sadako vs Ayako, Perfect World TV series etc) and their boss Takoda (Jiro Sato - Brothers in Brothel etc).

Eternals - Pretty Well Done Movie for the Unfamiliar Characters of Marvel Comics

I finally got the chance to see this movie with my wife yesterday after getting the seats which we preferred in one of the cinemas we have been eyeing. It was a big challenge to get the tickets since many people have bought them in advance, while we had to make sure we were able to get in the theaters before we could buy them. Anyway, I'll just get to it now.

They were led by Ajak (Salma Hayek - The Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard, Drunk Parents etc) who was the wisest of them all. (2021) Candyman - Too Much Focus on the Social Aspects and too Little Horror to Terrify Us

Yesterday during the Halloween (which was not a real holiday in Indonesia but people just love the festivity feel), my wife and I decided to see this horror movie. It was actually already released in theaters since Wednesday, but we were no longer in the habit of seeing movies on their premier day. Which was why we just see them as and when we have the time. I just realized there was this new movie on Catchplay+ on Saturday morning. It was a movie that I read sometime ago which intrigued me, but I was unable to see it when it played in Indonesian theaters. OK, I'll dive right to it then.

Brief Story Line

When some astronomers found a distant planet in 2063 which was habitable for humans, the scientists decided to send some crew to colonize it as backup for the dying earth. However, as it would take 86 years to reach the said planet, they came up with a plan of sending young crews who would live inside a spaceship called Humanitas, where they would breed so their grand children would be able to reach the location. A crew of 30 young children were later sent in Humanitas and they were accompanied by one of the scientists named Richard (Colin Farrell - Dumbo, Ava etc).

I noticed this series available for streaming in Disney+ for few weeks now. But as usual, I hold on watching it till the completion of the season (or the series). Once I found out the final episode was going to be released last night, I started watching it on Thursday so I could finish it immediately. OK, why don't I get to it now.

I watched the trailer to this series few times on Netflix before and thought it looked very interesting. But I did not realize it was a series until my wife told me so. As I already had plans for other movies on different platform and in the cinemas, I only started to watch this one on Sunday night & finished it last night. So let's get started now.

Yoon Ji-woo (Han Soo Hee - The World of the Married TV series etc) was the daughter of a gangster who was murdered by an unknown assailant. She wanted to get revenge on the killer and sought the help from her father's old friend & a powerful gang leader Choi Mu-jin (Park Hee-soon - Seven Days etc). Despite the objection from his right hand man Tae-ju (Lee Hak-joo - Sweet Munchies TV series etc), Mu-jin still decided to train her. 

Don't Breathe 2 - Not a Better Sequel in term of Story but Definitely More Brutal and Violent

I found out about this movie only few weeks ago and was surprised there was even a sequel of the 2016 hit Don't Breathe. But as I truly enjoyed the original film, my wife and I both thought it would be an exciting experience to see it in the cinema. The movie was only released in Indonesian theaters 2 days ago, while it has its wide release in the US in August. All right, here's more on the movie.

(2021) DUNE - A Detailed Adaptation of the Popular 1965 Sci-Fi Novel with Spectacular Visual Effects but Slow Pace in the First half

I have heard about this movie being promoted and mentioned so many times in the past year or so. As it was highly regarded and said to be a great adaptation, I was definitely intrigued to watch this. Once I got the chance with my wife in the weekend, we went to a cinema with large screen to see the movie since I could imagine it would be a far greater experience than seeing it in small screen. Anyway, I'll head to it now.

Set in the very distant future, the planet of Arrakis also known as Dune was the source of the much required substance called spice. Dune had been under the occupation of House of Harkonnen for centuries. but the Imperial kingdom just appointed the humans tribe House of Artreides to take over the harvesting. The decision was not well received by one of its leader Rabban (Dave Bautista - Final Score, Army of the Dead etc) who was also the nephew of Baron of Harkonnen (Stellan Skarsgård - The Girl in the Spider's Web etc).

Wrath of Man - Another Interesting Guy Ritchie's Directed Movie in Collaboration with Jason Statham

This movie played in Indonesian cinemas few months back when my wife and I were not ready to go to see movies in theater yet. So when I saw that it was going to be released on Catchplay+ in October, I was really looking forward to it, and even my wife wanted to see this together with me since she is a major fan of Jason Statham. Even though it was not a brand new film, I still want to write about it. OK let's dive in now.

Hill/H (Jason Statham - The Meg, Fast & Furious: Hobbs & Shaw etc) just joined the Fortico security and worked as part of the armored truck team under his supervisor Bullet (Holt McCallany - Monster Truck, Mindhunter TV series etc). A World Without - An Indonesian Drama Thriller Movie with an Interesting Idea Set in the Near Future

(TV SERIES) What If...? Season 1 - Unique and Interesting Series with Some Well Animated Action Scenes

For around 2 months, this series has been playing on Disney+ which seemed intriguing and also set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but with a bit of a twist.
