He's All That - A Very Light Teen Rom-com Movie and a Gender-Swapped Remake of 1999 Movie

I have been meaning to watch this movie when I noticed the title which seemed familiar to me. Once I read a bit on the premise, I was definitely intrigued to give it a try, especially since it seemed to promise light and fun entertainment. So last night I watched this movie together with my wife who just finished watching a Japanese animation series. OK, let's get this started.

Brief Story Line

Padgett Sawyer (Addison Rae) was a high school student and famous influencer who received lots of endorsements and income. She kept it for her college fund in order to help her mother Anna (Rachel Leigh Cook - Josie and the Pussycats, Perception TV series etc) who was working as a nurse. Padgett was best friends with Alden Pierce (Madison Pettis - American Pie Presents: Girls' Rules etc) & Quinn (Myra Molloy) and having an equally famous boyfriend Jordan (Peyton Meyer - Girl Meets World TV series etc).

(2020) The Witches - The Second Adaptation of the Popular Children's Dark Fantasy Novel

This weekend, there were a number of new movies and series released in various platforms. I thought there was going to be one movie that I had been waiting for a while, but it did not come true. Anyway, this film is playing on HBO at 8PM Saturday, but since I have access to HBO Go, I could see it earlier. It looked interesting enough, plus if I am not mistaken, it did play in Indonesian theaters few months ago. So here's more on the film.

Brief Story Line

Set in late 1960s, a young orphan boy (Jahzir Bruno) had moved to live with his grandmother (Octavia Spencer - Thunder Force, Onward etc) in Alabama. One day the boy was approached by a terrifying woman with a snake offering him sweets, but he managed to get away. Later the grandmother revealed that it was no ordinary woman and it was actually a witch who had been living amongst normal people and she also had prior bad experience with witches.

(Mini Series) Clickbait - Limited Series that Started of Brightly, Slow Paced Story Telling in the Middle and Ends with a Bang

On Wednesday, I was surprised to see 2 new series released on Netflix. One seemed like a drama mystery series, while the other was a very intriguing and seemed suspenseful Limited Series. Since I am in the mood for a series that would really finish in few episodes, I chose to see this one. Well here we go then.

Brief Story Line

Pia Brewer (Zoe Kazan - Ruby Sparks, The Big Sick etc) has been having strained relationship with his older brother Nick (Adrian Grenier - Entourage TV series, Marauders etc) for a while and had a major fight in front of Nick's wife Sophie (Betty Gabriel - Get Out etc) and their children. But when the following day a video emerged showing Nick in captivity admitting to abusing women and he would be killed if the video views reached 5 million, Pia immediately did whatever she could to find him.

Rurouni Kenshin: The Beginning - The Beautiful and Engaging Love Story of Kenshin that Serves As Wonderful Finale of the Series

As I said in my earlier post, I watched this movie immediately after I finished watching the 4th movie: Rurouni Kenshin: The Final. This 5th and said to be the final installment of Kenshin movies was released on Netflix almost a month ago. So it's not a really brand new film, but still something that excites me. Now why don't I get to it?

Brief Story Line

Story was set in 1864 Kyoto, where there was revolutionary movement to end the Tokugawa Shogunate reign. Hitokiri Battosai aka Himura Kenshin (Takeru Satoh - Ajin: Demi-Human etc) was an assassin who worked for Choshu clan with their leader Katsura Kogoro (Issey Takahashi - The Lies She Loved etc) and usually got the assignments to kill people who supported the Shogunate. Himura who felt disturbed after his recent killing, saved a young woman named Yukishiro Tomoe (Kasumi Arimura - Erased etc) from being harassed. As gratitude, Tomoe worked at the inn where the clan hid and she started to grew close to Himura.

Rurouni Kenshin: The Final - The Fourth and Still Exciting Live Adaptation Movie of the Popular Manga Series

Rurouni Kenshin movies were something that interest me but I did not get the chance to see them years ago when they played in Indonesian cinemas. So when the first film was released on Netflix, naturally I gave it a try and I loved it. However, I was disappointed after I found out the 2nd and 3rd movies were not shown on Netflix. Hence when this film was released, I hesitated to watch it as I prefer to have seen the predecessors. Yesterday though, I decided to watch this movie and continued with the 5th and final film. All right, I'll head on to it now.

Brief Story Line

Few years after the event of Rurouni Kenshin: The Legend Ends, the wanderer Himura Kenshin (Takeru Satoh -  Inuyashiki etc) was still living at the Dojo owned by Ms. Kaoru (Emi Takei - For Love's Sake etc). Together with the warrior Sagara Sanosuke (Munetaka Aoki - Hara-Kiri: Death of a Samurai etc), the Doctor Takani Megumi (Yu Aoi - Hula Girls etc) and the young Yahiko (Riku Onishi), they were enjoying the peaceful life in Tokyo.

The Rental - A Horror Film with Interesting Idea mixed from Successful 80s and 90s Horror and Thriller Movies

I almost missed watching this movie on Catchplay+ because when it was released, it was not promoted in big way. Not like other films that were given reminder and even special articles in previous month to give us the heads up. So I noticed this one when I was browsing for new movies 2 days ago, but since I already opted to see another movie on different streaming platform, I decided to postpone it to Saturday. Sweet Girl - An Action Thriller Movie that might be Better without the Over Complexities of Plot

Yesterday I decided to watch this new movie on Netflix which based on its trailer seemed to promise good old fashion action that I love. It was also intriguing to see how Jason Momoa fare in this film as he started to have more lead roles. OK, let's get on it now.

Ray Cooper (Jason Momoa - Aquaman, Conan the Barbarian etc) had lost his wife due to cancer and raised his daughter Rachel (Isabela Merced - Instant Family, Dora and the Lost City of Gold etc) by himself. Ray was actually really upset and held Simon Keeley (Justin Bartha - The Hangover trilogy etc) the CEO of a major pharmaceutical company called BioPrime responsible for his wife's demise. 

(TV SERIES) The White Lotus Season 1 - An HBO Original Anthology Drama Comedy Series with Unconventional Humor and Satirical Approach

I was aware of this HBO original series few weeks ago where it was said to be praised by movie critics and was categorized as drama comedy. Since it was available on HBO Go, it was easily accessible for me and I managed to finish it very fast cause it only have 6 episodes overall. Now why don't I get to the series.

Brand New Cherry Flavor - One of the Most Disturbing and Disgusting Horror Series I have Ever Seen

During last weekend, I saw more than one movie but I was a bit lazy to write the review of the films and only managed to write one post. This limited series did intrigue me and after few days, I finally completed it. So here's more.

Brief Story Line

Story was set in the 1990s where a young movie director named Lisa Nova (Rosa Salazar - Alita: Battle Angel, Maze Runner: The Death Cure etc) went to Los Angeles to have a meeting with Lou Burke (Eric Lange - Narcos TV series etc) a successful producer. Lou promised Lisa that she would produce a full length feature of her short movie that obviously made her ecstatic. She was also introduced to a major Hollywood star named Roy Hardaway (Jeff Ward - Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D TV series etc) who seemed to take an interest on her.

Beckett - Not so Impressive Man on the Run Movie

Just like in previous weeks, there were some new movies released on various platforms and this time I chose to watch this movie which seemed interesting from the brief synopsis and also the trailer. So let's get on with it.

Brief Story Line

After experiencing a car accident while on holiday in Greece, Beckett (John David Washington - Tenet, BlacKkKlansman etc) an American tourist was suddenly chased by a group of people without knowing the reason. While on the run, he met with few people who helped him along the way, including an activist named Lena (Vicky Krieps - Phantom Thread etc).

I gave this French movie a try because it seemed like a nice good old fashioned creature film, plus it was promoted as scary, horror and creature feature by Netflix. OK, I'll just head straight to it.

Brief Story Line

As a single mother, Virginie Hebrard (Suliane Brahim - Blind Spot etc) was having financial trouble and had to earn her living from farming locusts. The farm though was not truly successful and it also kept her teenaged daughter Laura (Marie Narbonne) a bit of exiled from her school friends. However, her younger brother Gaston (Raphael Romand) still enjoyed his life. Fortunately though, Virginie still got support from old family friend Karim (Sofian Khammes).

(TV SERIES) The Mysterious Benedict Society Season 1 - An Exciting Family Friendly Adventure Series based on Popular Children's Book

I saw this series having an episode released every week in the past few weeks on Disney+ and I was intrigued by the premise after reading the brief synopsis. As usual, I would wait till the final episode going to be released before started watching it. It took a while but finally I got the whole 8 episodes done and watched the season finale last night. OK, I'll head straight to the it now.

In order to investigate this, he recruited four children to assist him.

Recalled - A Quite Beautiful & Tragic Mystery Thriller Drama Movie

I forgotten that there was this new movie scheduled to be released end of July on Catchplay+ and missed out on watching it till last night. I was intrigued by the premise and thought it would be a good option during this challenging time that me and my wife are facing now. Anyway, why don't I just go ahead with the film.

A young woman named Soo-jin (Seo Yea-ji - It's Okay to Not Be Okay TV series etc) woke up from coma with memory loss of what happened previously. She was taken back home in the care of her loving and caring husband Jin-woo (Kim Kang-woo - New Year Blues etc). As they started to adjust with life, Soo-jin started to experience premonition-like visions involving other people she met, which started to make her doubt herself and even her husband.

(2021) Aftermath - Mediocre Horror TV Movie with Predictable Story

There was this new movie released on Netflix yesterday which seemed like a rather standard premise of house being hunted. As I was just looking for something new after watching new season of another series, I decided to give this a try. Well let's find out more on this, shall we?

Brief Story Line

Natalie (Ashley Greene - The Twilight Saga movies etc) and her husband Kevin (Shawn Ashmore - X-Men trilogy etc) were having strained relationship and decided to move to a new house they got really cheap due to some prior incident. As they struggled with adjusting their lives with this house, Natalie started to be disturbed by strange occurrences, including their dog's acting weird.

The Last Mercenary - Jean-Claude Van Damme's Action Comedy Just for Fun

Last Friday there were 2 new movies released on Netflix, with one of those a Japanese film that I have not given a try as I was still considering whether to watch it despite not seeing the complete previous movies. While thinking, I just decided to watch this one, as it looked comedic in nature and I was in dire need of comedy. OK let's get to it.

Brief Story Line

Richard Brumère (Jean-Claude Van Damme - Bloodsport, Universal Soldier etc) was an experienced secret agent working for the French government. He had an illegitimate son named Archibad "Archie" (Samir Decazza) living in France under government protection. However, when an over eager bureaucrat Alexandre (Alban Ivanov) did something, the protection was lifted and Archie became the target of operation led by Commandant Jouard (Patrick Timsit).
