Brief Story Line
After the events on The Hitman's Bodyguard, Michael Bryce (Ryan Reynolds - Life, Detective Pikachu etc) was feeling depressed as his bodyguard license was under review and could not take any clients. While taking a break, Sonia Kincaid (Salma Hayek - Bliss, Desperado etc) requested Bryce help to save her husband Darius (Samuel L. Jackson - Spiral, Captain Marvel etc) from the mob.
After that incident, the trio were forced by Interpol agent Bobby (Frank Grillo - Boss Level, Wolf Warrior 2 etc) to gather info on a terrorist plot masterminded by a Greek billionaire Aristotle Papadopoulos (Antonio Banderas - Doolittle, Bullet Head etc). It was going to be a very dangerous "assignment" since Aristotle was protected by top class bodyguard and hitman.
So what would happen to those three? Find them all in this action comedy movie.
End of Brief Story Line
I remember when watching the first movie I had quite a lot of fun because of the comedy and also plenty of action. So when I found out there was going to be a sequel, I was obviously interested to give it a try. Sadly though, my wife did not really remember that movie, probably because it has been too long (the original was released back in 2017). But after a while, she started to vaguely remember the characters, especially Sonia Kincaid.
In this sequel, they still used the same formula, i.e. Michael Bryce had no choice but to guard someone he preferred not to, although this time it was not Darius, but his wife instead. Regardless though, he still tried his best to do his job, and had to fend off some major bad guys with lots of fire powers. In addition, it also relied on the frenemy chemistry between Bryce and Kincaid plus the much more screen time of Sonia who provided a lot of craziness in here. There were few nice songs too, just like the first movie.
The action sequence was still awesome and entertaining, which was combined with some slapstick humor here and there. There was one scene involving the trio in a place they thought they were safe which was hilarious and made my wife and I laughed out loud. Throughout the whole movie, we got to see some ridiculous scenes as well, in particular Bryce ability to get himself out of near death situation, which sometimes felt a bit cartoonish.
This movie's strength was definitely on the characters interaction. Ryan Reynolds was performing his usual comedic role (my wife also felt he seemed suitable playing these kind of characters lately). Meanwhile Samuel L. Jackson was playing to his standard and Salma Hayek did her best to show off her foul mouth characteristic just like in the previous movie. There were also the appearances of support cast like Tom Hopper (The Umbrella Academy TV series etc) and few others. But the one who surprised me was Morgan Freeman (The Poison Rose, The Nutcracker and the Four Realms etc) playing a character whom we never thought of.
Aside from the cool action and the humor, the story in this sequel was not really that great. I personally felt it was of lower quality compared to its predecessor, which is a bit weird considering it has the same writer Tom Connor and same director Patrick Hughes. To enjoy this movie, you really need to take out the thinking and analyzing as you would not find comfort in it. Just treat this movie as what it was meant to be, a film filled with action and some absurd humor to relief some stress. Btw, there was a funny mid end-credit scene in the movie, in case you are wondering. So if you must have a good script and great story to be entertained by a movie, then this might not be to your liking. But if you just want to have some fun, then you can find them here.
