Jumanji: The Next Level - Still as Fun-Filled and Enjoyable Sequel and Mostly Entertaining Movie

After playing in theaters for few days, I finally got the chance to see this movie with my wife last night. This was due to the fact I was a bit particular and insistent in watching this kind of movie in the theater with Dolby Atmos system, which made it quite challenging to match the timing with our own schedule. Anyway I'll just go straight to the movie now.

Brief Story Line

Set some time after Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, the four friends Spencer (Alex Wolff), Martha (Morgan Turner), Bethany (Madison Iseman) and Fridge (Ser'Darius Blain) planned to get together during the holiday. Meanwhile Spencer had his grandfather Eddie (Danny DeVito - Dumbo live version etc) staying in his house.

Unbeknownst to his friends, Spencer played the Jumanji game again and now Martha and the rest had to re-enter the game to help Spencer. But somehow grandpa Eddie and his old friend Milo Walker (Danny Glover - Monster Trucks etc)  were sucked into Jumanji.

With grandpa Eddie and Milo had zero knowledge of how to play the game, everyone had to do their best to finish it and bring Spencer home safely by using their avatars Dr. Bravestone (Dwayne Johnson - Fast and Furious: Hobbs and ShawRampage etc), cartographer Sheldon (Jack Black - The House with a Clock in Its Walls etc), zoologist Franklin (Kevin Hart - Central Intelligence etc) and martial artist Ruby (Karen Gillan - The CircleStuber etc). So how would the whole mess be cleaned up? Find them all in this highly entertaining and fun movie.

End of Brief Story Line

After watching the trailer to this movie, I had a sense that it would be a lot of fun, especially with the new characters joining in the game. And my sense was spot on cause my wife & I and the rest of the audience who almost filled the whole studio were laughing our hearts out. There were countless times that we enjoyed ourselves due to the hilarious moments. Sure the early part might be a bit slow for people who only expect the game to start as soon as possible, but surprisingly I did not feel bored by it, cause it gave perspective on how the main characters were doing after the previous film.

The movie was so much fun because of the amazing characters portrayal by the main cast who played the roles of the avatars. Everyone of Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black, Kevin Hart and Karen Gillan managed to convince us that they were actually the 4 people in the real world. Their facial expressions, behaviors, body language and all were so similar which made it impossible not to laugh. And you could also imagine how funny it would be for two senior persons like Danny DeVito and Danny Glover's characters had to endure lives in this dangerous game.

In addition to those cast, the young 4 friends also performed their roles adequately, although if I have to be honest, the avatar characters were the real stars. Btw, there were also few more people who appeared in the game, with 1 familiar name in particular Awkwafina (Crazy Rich Asians etc) who added more colour to an already fun filled characters. There were also few other names who you would recognize when you saw the movie.

The amazing special effects was also the great factor which made me enjoyed better, combined with wonderful Atmos sound effects made it a very satisfying experience for me and my wife. The music score whenever Jumanji was starting was excellent, giving us the adventurous feel. For a movie with 123 minutes duration, it did not feel too long and had sufficient screen time to cover all the characters' issues. It had some early mid end credit scene which made me and my wife ecstatic if it was a real indication of the possible sequel. There was no post end credit scene though, so you could leave to the bathroom if you had been holding it for a while.

Overall I really had a lot of fun seeing this movie. It was really entertaining combination of comedy provided by the cast and the treasure hunt-like adventure. Although if I am not mistaken, it felt like this time the comedy was a bit more and the adventures were reduced a bit, but there was still some intense moment (my favorite was the one involving the monkeys). This time the movie also had some emotional moment as well that managed to touch us (my wife in particular). So if you like the previous film, then you should be able to enjoy this as well.

Happy watching!
