The Whisper Man - An OK Enough Crime Thriller Drama Novel Adaptation

There were so many new options available on Netflix this week and I chose to watch this crime thriller movie that was released on Friday. It has interesting premise plus it has well known lead cast that I believe would be good. All right then, let's just get on with the movie.

Brief Story Line

When the body of a missing child was found by the search team led by Detective Amanda Beck (Michelle Monaghan - Little Brother, Bad Monkey TV series etc), it was a major surprise as it was similar to the cases decades before done by the Whisper Man Francis Carter (Michael Keaton - The Flash, Birdman etc) who was already jailed for life. Beck decided to seek advice from the person who caught Francis last time, retired Detective Inspector Pete Willis (Robert De Niro - Zero Day mini series, Raging Bull etc) but he was not interested in helping. 

(Mini Series) Lucky - A Solid Enough Series About the Struggle of Grifter Adapted from Best Selling Novel

I have heard about this mini series released on AppleTV+ since mid of last month which intrigued me. But as it was only made available once a week, as usual I would wait till its completion before started watching. However I did not realize that its final episode was released on 19 August until two days ago while browsing for new series. So I began watching then and just finished last night. Without further ado, here's more on the series.

Brief Story Line

Lucky (Anya Taylor-Joy - The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga etc) and her husband Cary (Drew Starkey - Outer Banks TV series, Queer etc) had just finished the task given by her father, the con-artist John Armstrong (Timothy Olyphant - Over Your Dead Body, Havoc etc) who was imprisoned for embezzling fund. Unfortunately something went terribly wrong and she became the target of crime boss Priscilla Masterson (Annette Bening - American Beauty, Being Julia etc) & her right hand man Dusty (Clifton Collins Jr. - The Bricklayer, Jockey etc) and the FBI led by Agent Billie Rand (Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor - Quantico TV series, King Richard etc) who wanted to capture her.

(Mini Series) The Apartment Job - A Delightful and Enjoyable Long Con Crime Comedy Series

This series was intriguing for me due to its seemingly interesting and fun premise. However it was not an original Netflix and the episodes were made available once a week. So I waited till its completion before starting to watch. Its last episode was released on 16 August but I only began two days later and finished it on Sunday. OK then, let's just get right to it.

Brief Story Line

Park Hae-gang (Ji Sung - The Judge Returns TV series, Watcha Wearing? etc) was a former gangster boss who got into trouble and was forced to look for huge amount of money in very short time. Together with his loyal subordinates  Gyeong-nam (Jeong Soon-won - Dream, The Dream Life of Mr. Kim TV series etc), Je-gi (Hwang Hee - Tale of the Nine Tailed1938 TV series etc) and Big Guy (Kim Kyu-won), they decided to do a long con in the True Value apartment complex as suggested by former apartment Building Manager nicknamed Lizard (Kim Won-hae - Trigger mini series, The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call TV series etc). In order to fulfill their mission, Hae-gang enlisted the help from failed law student Kang Ha-ri (Ha Yoon-kyung - Lost, Hospital Playlist TV series etc) who was willing to do role play for money.

(Mini Series) Human Vapor - A Wonderfully Written, Dark & Tragic Sci-Fi Thriller Series With Some Awesome Special Effects

Ever since this series was shown as part of the Coming Soon in Netflix, I was already intrigued and looking forward to it. But as I was busy finishing another series on the day it was released, I only started watching two nights ago and finished it yesterday. Without further ado, here's more on the series.

Brief Story Line

During a live interview on TV by well known reporter Kyoko Kono (Yu Ayoi - Rurouni Kenshin: The Final, Asura TV series etc), the person being interviewed was killed by mysterious gas which shocked the whole audience. Police detective Kenji Okamoto (Shun Oguri - Godzilla vs. Kong, Museum etc) was assigned to investigate the case. When someone who called himself Human Vapor (UTA) claimed responsibility for the murder and threatening to kill other people, Kenji led a group of police to try and capture him. 

(TV SERIES) Million-Follower Detective - Could Have Been a Really Good Series with Better Execution in Certain Areas

I had seen this series promoted in the Coming Soon section of Netflix for quite some time and was immediately interested when I noticed the lead cast was Ekin Cheng, the famous Hong Kong star from 1990s and 2000s. Plus it looked to have an interesting premise. Anyway once it was released yesterday, I started watching and finished it today. OK, let's get right on it now.

Brief Story Line

When a mysterious masked influencer called the Witch Baba started to give prediction of people dying, no one really believed until it became a reality as a famous influencer was shot by Detective Chen Chia-jen (Ekin Cheng - Young and Dangerous movies, The Twins Effect etc) in front of police station. Another well known influencer You Tzi (Singer/Rapper Shou Lo - I am the Secret in Your Heart, Organ Child etc) was upset and made it a major issue by blaming Chia-jen for his friend's shooting.

She Rides Shotgun - A Dark and Heavy Thriller Movie Based on Award Winning Novel

I was not aware that this movie would be available on Prime Video till yesterday I read in the website about its release. Though I was watching another series, I was intrigued about the film and decided to give it a try. All right then, let's just get into the movie.

Brief Story Line

Polly Huff (Ana Sophia Heger - Life in Pieces TV series etc) was a 9 year old kid who after waiting for a while at school, was finally picked up by her father Nate McClusky (Taron Egerton - Carry-On, Kingsman: The Golden Circle etc). Although she felt uneasy as Nate was just released from prison, Polly still went along with him. It was later revealed that Nate had an altercation with the white supremacist gang and his family including Polly was put on hit list.

(TV SERIES) Nine Puzzles - A Pretty Enjoyable Mystery Crime Thriller Disney+ Original Series

I noticed this series in the coming soon section of Disney+ few months back and thought the premise seemed interesting. When I found out that the finale was going to be released on 4th of June, I immediately began to watch it two days before, so I would be able to complete the series on that day. All right then, let's just get to it.

Brief Story Line

An excellent Seoul Criminal Profiler Yoon E-na (Kim Da-mi - Soulmate, Itaewon Class TV series etc) was the witness of her uncle's murder ten years ago and was suspected by the rookie police Kim Han-saem (Son Suk-ku - The Roundup, Big Bet TV series etc), though it was never proven. Because of the trauma that made her lost a bit of her memory, E-na had been seeing psychiatrist Dr. Seong Joo (Park Gyu-young - Sweet Home TV series, Love + Sling etc). In present day, a series of gruesome murders started where the killer left a piece of puzzle to E-na related to each of the crime.

(TV SERIES) Dept. Q Season 1 - Wonderful & Well Written Crime Thriller Series with Engaging Characters & Great Story Telling

I said in one of my previous posts that there were two new shows released on the same day in different streaming platforms last week. As I already opted to watch the other one first, I only started watching this series on Netflix since Saturday & finished it on Sunday. OK here's more on the series then.

Brief Story Line

Experienced Detective Chief Inspector Carl Morck (Matthew Goode - The King's Man, The Good Wife TV series etc) who worked in Edinburgh police office was reassigned by his boss Moira Jacobson (Kate Dickie - Game of Thrones TV series, Damaged etc) to a newly formed Department focusing on cold cases. Despite his obvious resentment, Carl did not have a choice since he was just involved in a major incident earlier that required him seeing psychiatrist Dr. Rachel Irving (Kelly Macdonald - Boardwalk Empire TV series, No Country for Old Men etc). 

(Mini Series) Karma - Great Series With Story that Suit the Title Perfectly

This new limited series that was released by Netflix on 4 April had a very brief, yet intriguing synopsis. But since I was finishing other series, I only got the chance to watch it yesterday and managed to complete in one day. OK, let's just get right to the series now, shall we.

Brief Story Line

Story focused on people whose lives were entangled by ill-fated relationships. The first one was a man whose investment using money borrowed from loan shark was unsuccessful, resulted to him being debt-ridden and referred to as the Debtor (Lee Hee-joon - Badland Hunters, A Killer Paradox TV series etc). Second was Jang Gil-ryong (Kim Sung-kyun - Moving TV series, Officer Black Belt etc), a Korean-Chinese immigrant who was fired from his work and accepted offer to do a job that promised huge pay. Third was a surgeon Lee Ju-yeon (Shin Min-a - No Gain No Love TV series, My Love, My Bride etc) who was caught with the trauma from her past.

(TV SERIES) Cross Season 1 - An Enjoyable Adaptation of James Patterson's Best Selling Novel Series

I have been meaning to watch this series that was released on Prime Video on 14 November, but since I was in the middle of other series plus my holiday vacation last week, I only started it three days ago and finished last night. Without further ado, let's get right to it.

Brief Story Line

Dr. Alex Cross (Aldis Hodge - Black Adam, Leverage TV series etc), a Forensic Psychologist was working as homicide detective in DC with his partner John Sampson (Isaiah Mustafa - It Chapter Two, Boy Kills World etc). Cross was struggling with his personal life and had to have help from his grandmother Regina (Juanita Jennings - Meet the Browns TV series etc) to take care of his children Damon (Caleb Elijah) and Jannie (Melody Hurd). 

Alex was beginning to have a relationship with Elle (Samantha Walkes), a director of Non profit organization who introduced him to some high powered people including the very wealthy Ed Ramsey (Ryan Eggold - The Blacklist TV series, New Amsterdam TV series etc). Ed himself was taking an interest on a young woman named Shannon Witmer (Eloise Mumford - Fifty Shades trilogy etc) whom he met through dating app.

Kabut Berduri - A Decent Netflix Original Indonesian Crime Thriller Movie

After reading one sentence of this Indonesian movie promoted in Netflix under the coming soon section, I was heavily intrigued. So when it was finally released yesterday, I immediately gave it a try. Without further ado, here's more on the film.

Brief Story Line

When a corpse was found at the border of Indonesia and Malaysia in Borneo island, Inspector Sanja (Putri Marino - The Big 4, Layangan Putus the Movie etc) was sent from Jakarta to investigate. However, the local police chief Panca (Lukman Sardi - Nightmares and Daydreams TV series, Gundala etc) was not so receptive as he thought she was too green. Panca later assigned one of his subordinate Thomas (Yoga Pratama - Berbalas Kejam, Buya Hamka etc) to accompany Sanja during the investigation.

Despite being an outsider, Sanja still managed to find a lot of information. Things would become more complicated when it was found out that there was more than 1 victim. 

(TV SERIES) The Gentlemen Season 1 - An Entertaining Spin Off from the Well Executed Movie by Guy Ritchie

This series was shown in the coming soon section in Netflix for quite a while and I was intrigued as it reminded me of a movie that I had seen few years ago. Apparently it was indeed based on that film, which made me interested in giving it a try. So I started watching the series few days after its release and managed to finish it last night. All right, here's more on the series.

Brief Story Line

Edward Horniman (Theo James - The Time Traveler's Wife TV series, Divergent movies etc) was called back home due to the poor health condition of his father, Duke Archibald Horniman (Edward Fox - The Day of the Jackal etc). He reunited with his older brother Frederick (Daniel Ings - Instinct TV series etc), younger sister Charlotte (Jasmine Blackborrow - Marie Antoinette TV series etc), their mother Lady Sabrina (Joely Richardson - The Sandman TV series, Endless Love 2014 remake etc) and the groundskeeper Geoffrey (Vinnie Jones - Snatch, X-Men: The Last Stand etc). When the Duke ultimately passed away and the will was read, to everyone's surprise, the whole estate and title was given to Edward which did not go well with Frederick.

While I was looking for something to watch on HBO Go as it had been quite some time since I watched anything there, I came across this series which looked interesting. So I gave it a try 2 nights ago and managed to complete it last night. Without further ado, here's more on the series.

Brief Story Line

Ava (Kaley Cuoco - Man from Toronto, The Big Bang Theory TV series etc) was a pregnant woman working as real estate agent and had been married for years with Nathan Bartlett (Chris Messina - I Care a Lot, The Mindy Project TV series etc), a former tennis star who now worked as coach in a luxurious country club. They lived with Ava's younger sister Tory (Liana Liberato - Totally Killer, Light as a Feather TV series etc) and were best friends with several rich people, including Ruby (Priscilla Quintana - Pandora TV series etc).

To Catch a Killer - A Dark and Rather Heavy Crime Drama Movie

While going home from my trip around two weeks ago, I watched few movies (and series) on the inflight entertainment of Emirates airline. This was one of them which I just noticed was in the Coming Soon section of Indonesian's cinema chain and reminded me that I have not written about it. All right, I will get to it now.

Brief Story Line

When a mass shooting happened on New Year's eve, police officer Eleanor (Shailene Woodley - Adrift, Snowden etc) was one of the first to arrive at the scene where she showed some quick thinking, though the suspect was never caught. Due to the severity of the case, the experienced FBI Agent Lammark (Ben Mendelsohn - Secret Invasion Mini Series, Spies in Disguise etc) was assigned to lead a task force. He then asked Eleanor to join even though she did not have any proper background and another experienced detective Jack Mackenzie (Jovan Adepo - Babylon, The Leftovers TV series etc).

Hell Dogs: In The House of Bamboo - Gritty Japanese Thriller Based on Novel by Akio Fukamachi

Of all the new releases in Netflix yesterday, this one caught my attention as it seemed like a gritty movie with an interesting plot. Plus I was also familiar the main stars of this Japanese movie. So I decided to watch this one ahead of other options. OK let us get to it then.

Brief Story Line

Goko Idezuki (Junichi Okada - The Fable: The Killer Who Doesn't Kill, Memory etc), was a former police officer who was assigned to work undercover in the Yakuza. In order to infiltrate, he had to approach one of the Yakuza member Muro (Kentaro Sakaguchi - Signal: Long-Term Unsolved Case Investigation Team, The Last 10 Years etc) who was said to be compatible with Goro and part of an elite group called Hell Dogs. 

See For Me - An Interesting Enough Thriller Movie

I was interested in this movie when I saw its trailer a couple of times earlier. So I kind of looking forward to the movie's release. But it had its premier date on Friday when I was feeling a bit reluctant to go out after work day. Hence I decided to see it only on Saturday. Anyway, here's more on the movie.

Brief Story Line

Sophie Scott (Skyler Davenport) was a skier who had to retire early when she was diagnosed with an illness that cause blindness. Feeling frustrated, she preferred to do freelance jobs rather than trying for the paralympic. She later answered an ad to do a cat-sitting job for a wealthy woman named Debra (Laura Vandervoort - Jigsaw, Bitten TV series etc) while she was away on holiday. 

(TV SERIES) Reacher Season 1 - An Awesome Series Based on Popular Jack Reacher Novels by Lee Child

Few days ago, I noticed there was this new series in Prime Video which was interesting for me as I quite liked the movies based on the titular character. I wanted to find out if this series is as good as the commentaries seemed to hint. OK, why don't I just start with it.

Brief Story Line

Jack Reacher (Alan Ritchson - Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows, Titans TV series etc), a retired army investigator arrived in the small town of Margrave, Georgia to have a bit of fun, only to be detained by the police for suspicion of murder. The Chief Detective Oscar Finlay (Malcolm Goodwin - iZombie TV series etc) was unable to get anything from Reacher but did find out that he was really perceptive. A rookie officer named Roscoe (Willa Fitzgerald - Scream TV series etc) was doubtful of Reacher's involvement.

Red Notice - A Highly Entertaining Action Comedy Movie

When I heard there was a movie starring three popular major Hollywood stars, I was truly enthusiastic about it. So it's definitely a no brainer for me and my wife to be excited and wanting to watch immediately once it was released yesterday. Unfortunately due to heavy rain and difficulty to get a ride home, we were unable to see it last night. We ended up watching this film on Saturday morning instead. OK without further ado, let's get right on it.

Brief Story Line

Special agent John Hartley (Dwayne Johnson - Jumanji: The Next Level, Moana etc) was a profiler for the FBI who was working together with Interpol agent Urvashi Das (Ritu Arya - The Umbrella Academy TV series season 2 etc). They were trying to capture an international art thief, Nolan Booth (Ryan Reynolds - Free Guy, Detective Pikachu etc) who was trying to steal an ancient treasure.
