Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga - Another Awesome Work from George Miller in this Amazing Franchise

As one of the summer blockbuster films I looked forward to, I wanted to see this as soon as I could. But combination of personal matters and other things made me postpone it till the weekend. And finally we were able to see it yesterday in our favorite studio. All right, let's dive into it.

Brief Story Line

After a major catastrophe that turned the world into wasteland, there were few groups of barbaric people fighting over the remaining resources. Furiosa (Anya Taylor-Joy - The Super Mario Bros. MovieThe Queen's Gambit etc) had been living for years in the Citadel under the leadership of Immortan Joe (Lachy Hulme - Three Thousand Years of Longing etc). As she gained more trust, Furiousa later became partner of Praetorian Jack (Tom Burke - C. B. Strike TV series etc) who drove the War Rig delivering goods to and from other establishments including the Bullet Farm and the Gas Town run by Dementus (Chris Hemsworth - ExtractionThor: Love and Thunder etc).

With all groups trying to fight on the resources, Furiosa secretly planned to return to her home town called Green Place which was rich of them.  But she must do so without being found out by the groups, particularly Dementus who had been trying to find its location.

So how would the story conclude? You could find out in this movie.

End of Brief Story Line

When I saw Mad Max: Fury Road (back when I have not started writing for my blog), I was really impressed by the movie that it left a great impression for me. I remember seeing it in awe due to the amazing action sequence and suspense that was absolutely fantastic throughout the whole film. I also recall the character Furiosa (played by Charlize Theron there) who was great and it did not surprise me that a movie about her was made seeing the success of Fury Road. For me personally, it was a nice chance to see another Mad Max film.

And after seeing this, I think the apocalyptic feel and the wasteland condition was still as convincing as the previous movie. It was also interesting seeing some of the people who I slowly remember as the story progressed, like the disgusting Immortan Joe, his sons and the scary War Boys. The intensity of action (particularly involving War Rig) were still the plus point in here, although I was expecting a bit larger scene before the finale which never materialized. Though I could understand as the movie focus was more on Furiousa's journey.

Aside from the awesome action sequence, the story was something that interest me as well. I got to admit that the director George Miller (who also directed all previous Mad Max movies and some other critically acclaimed hits like Lorenzo's Oil and Happy Feet) was brilliant in here. Of course it was easier to put all his visions if he got the freedom to do so (he was credited as co-producer and co-writer). The make-up department did great job too including their work on Anya Taylor-joy who looked a lot like Theron's version of Furiosa.

The cast were quite fabulous too, especially Chris Hemsworth who my wife and I thought was suitable as the annoying and sadistic Dementus. But personally we thought Tom Burke a bit out of place as Furiousa's counter part Jack (my wife felt he looked too mature while I thought he was too cold). In addition to the names above, there were some support characters like Immortan Joe's sons Rictus (Nathan Jones - Spiderhead etc) & Scrotus (Josh Helman - Wayward Pines mini series etc), the organic mechanic (Angus Sampson - The Lincoln Lawyer TV series etc), Furiousa's mother (Charlee Fraser) and few others who are mostly Australian. No surprise there as it is an Australian production after all.

All the action would not have been well crafted without the support of special effects team. And I thought their work was admirable with some cool pyro effects, the prostethic body parts, the war rig design and so on. No wonder it has a huge production budget, which only time will tell whether they could have commercial profit. Btw I was quite surpised at first that the movie was categorized as 13+ in Indonesia. But as I continued watching, I did feel it to be mildly violent as some of the brutality were not explicitly shown. Probably Indonesian censorship body did not view them as disturbing enough for teenagers.

Overall this was another great movie from George Miller and a welcome addition in the Mad Max franchise. It has a long duration of 148 minutes with some interesting scenes during closing credits that made me and my wife compelled to see Fury Road again, even if we knew it is unlikely to happen any time soon. Those who love Mad Max movies will certainly enjoy this one (Critics were also impressed by this movie). However if violent action movie set in dry barren land with brutal behaviour and deformed looks are not your thing, then this probably would not be enjoyable for you. For me, I like the action, story and the smart references to Fury Road, but if I could have it my way, I woud have added the epic scene before the end (even if it would make the movie last longer).
