Red Notice - A Highly Entertaining Action Comedy Movie

When I heard there was a movie starring three popular major Hollywood stars, I was truly enthusiastic about it. So it's definitely a no brainer for me and my wife to be excited and wanting to watch immediately once it was released yesterday. Unfortunately due to heavy rain and difficulty to get a ride home, we were unable to see it last night. We ended up watching this film on Saturday morning instead. OK without further ado, let's get right on it.

Brief Story Line

Special agent John Hartley (Dwayne Johnson - Jumanji: The Next LevelMoana etc) was a profiler for the FBI who was working together with Interpol agent Urvashi Das (Ritu Arya - The Umbrella Academy TV series season 2 etc). They were trying to capture an international art thief, Nolan Booth (Ryan Reynolds - Free Guy, Detective Pikachu etc) who was trying to steal an ancient treasure.

However, it was not that easy to capture Booth, especially with the interference of his main competition, the Bishop (Gal Gadot - Wonder Woman, Criminal etc). Things got complicated when the holder of the ancient treasure was a notorious criminal, Sotto Voce (Chris Diamantopoulos - The Three Stooges 2012 movie etc).

So how would the story conclude? You can find them all in this entertaining action comedy movie.

End of Brief Story Line

Now that was really fun! This was a typical blockbuster Hollywood action comedy movie where it starred three of the highly popular names in the industry nowadays. The movie did not require us to think too much and all we had to do was just sit back and enjoy the ride. The story started off brightly and it did not take long to get to the good part. After the encounter between Hartley and Booth, it was nonstop fun, especially with the continuous wisecrack comments from Booth and his chemistry with Hartley.

My wife and I liked the way the story told and obviously the action sequence. There were plenty of them, from hand to hand combat, car chase, gun fights and various explosions. One thing to note though, the actions here were the fun type and not the violent kind, which would explain the rating for PG 13. All the actions that involved the lead stars look really nicely done, no doubt their prior experience playing in action movies truly helped.

This movie felt like a combination of many things which had been used in other successful films. There were obviously some heists involved, treasure hunting and other familiar formula. It also have some nice music to accompany us. There were even multiple surprising twists which my wife mostly managed to guess (while I could only guess half of them), although there was one shocking twist that both of us did not see it coming.

For an action comedy movie, I thought this one truly delivered. The action was cool (understandable seeing the huge budget it had) and we loved the jokes a lot. There was one scene involving head cap where my wife and I laughed really hard. We both felt that it was due to intelligent writing of the humor. The film was written and directed by Rawson Marshall Thurber who had prior experience directing Dwayne Johnson in Skyscraper and Central Intelligence plus comedy movies like We're the Millers and few others. The duration of 118 minutes somehow felt just nice. It did not feel overly long or too short. Btw, there was no mid or post end credit scene here (except for 1 sentence said towards the end of the credits).

Overall this was an entertaining movie. A blockbuster type which we would normally see in the cinemas, but lucky for us in Indonesia, we could see it via streaming very early. The action, the comedy and the excitement looking at those 3 big stars were truly enjoyable. I would be happy to see the sequel of this movie should they choose to do so, after all, the ending seemed to give such hint. So if you just want to have fun watching this kind of movie, then you are welcome to watch it on Netflix. As long as you are content with these qualities without worrying other stuff, you should be entertained by the film like my wife and I were.

Mike's movie moments rating: 4 out of 5 stars
