Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins - Pretty Enjoyable in term of Action but Lacking Engaging Story to Make it Truly Interesting

I was really excited and looking forward to watching this movie ever since it was promoted to be released on Catchplay+ in September. Despite being late for 1 day, it was still better as it was accessible from home earlier than in Indonesian theaters. Anyway, I am going to go ahead on the film now.

Brief Story Line

A man with great martial arts skill who went by the name Snake Eyes (Henry Golding - Last Christmas, The Gentlemen etc) was recruited by Yakuza boss, Kenta (Takehiro Hira - Lost Girls & Love Hotels etc). Due to some reasons, he left them and befriended with Tomisaburo Arashikage (Andrew Koji - Warrior TV series etc), the future leader of secret ninja clan Arashikage.

I saw this Indonesian movie's trailer on Disney+ the other day and felt it looked a bit like Hollywood movie that I quite enjoyed years ago. So I was quite intrigued and thought I should give it a try. OK let's get more to it.

Brief Story Line

Krishna (Angga Yunanda - Dua Garis Biru, Mariposa etc) was a regular high school student who was living with his mother (Izabel Jahya - Dignitate etc). He had a huge crush on the girl next door Tiara (Caitlin Halderman - Surat Cinta untuk Starla, Dreadout etc). Krishna's best friends Soni (Teuku Ryzki - Generasi Micin etc) and Tunggul (Yudha Keling - Bucin etc) were always supportive and encourage him to express his feeling towards Tiara.

(TV SERIES) Squid Game - One Heck of a Shockingly Violent Series

Yesterday there was a new South Korean series released on Netflix together with a third season of another series. I was actually in the middle of a different series, but after reading a very brief description of this one, I decided to give it a try. And now I have completed it, I could not wait to write about it. OK, let's get it on.

Brief Story Line

Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae - Chief of Staff TV series, Deliver Us from Evil etc) was a debt-ridden compulsive gambler who worked as chauffeur and living off his mother's money. When he was offered to play a set of  survival game with large cash prize, Gi-hun was interested and decided to do it. Inside the mysterious game location, he was given the number 456 and met with hundreds of other participants including his childhood friend Sang-woo (Park Hae-soo - Prison Playbook TV series, Time to Hunt etc).

Nightbooks - Dark Fantasy Horror Based on Children's Book

I thought about watching this movie since I saw its trailer a couple of weeks ago. But I completely forgotten on the day of its premiere and only watched it last night. Anyway, here's more to this movie.

Brief Story Line

A young boy named Alex (Winslow Fegley - Timmy Failure: Mistakes Were Made etc) who loved to write scary stories, was feeling extremely down and decided to stop writing them. As he was running away from home, Alex was somehow captured by a witch later on revealed to be Natacha (Krysten Ritter - Jessica Jones TV series, She's Out of My League etc) who threatened to kill him unless he told a scary story every night.

The Voyeurs - A Thriller Movie with Lot of Focus on the Erotic Side

Another new movie was released during last weekend, this time it was on Prime Video. Reading the synopsis, it sounded like an intriguing thriller which made me decided to watch it after seeing other movies. So it was kind of a personal movie marathon. Ok lets start now.

A young couple of Pippa (Sydney Sweeney - The White Lotus season 1, Nocturne etc) and Thomas (Justice Smith - Detective Pikachu, All the Bright Places etc) just moved to their dream home in a prestigious apartment building. On their first night there, they noticed another couple in the apartment across their building having sex. Pippa was intrigued by them and began to keep watching their actions closely, up to the point that she started to develop sexual desires.

Freaky - A Totally Entertaining and Fun Slasher Movie with Comedic Twist

Now this movie caught my attention almost a year ago when I found out about it. Then it played, or supposed to play (I am not sure) in Indonesian theaters early this year. But as usual, I had to skip it. So when few weeks ago I saw this promoted in the coming soon section of HBO Go, I was truly excited. Immediately I watched this as soon as I got the chance. So let's get right to it.

In the town of Blissfield, there was an urban legend of serial killer who murdered their victims during homecoming. The  killer who turned out to be real and was called Blissfield Butcher (Vince Vaughn - Hacksaw Ridge, Wedding Crashers etc) started to appear and killing people again. 

Kate - Violent Action Movie with Really Simple Story

This was another new action movie released by Netflix on a Friday. After seeing its interesting trailer few times earlier, I was obviously excited to give it a try. And let's find out more of this.

Brief Story Line

Kate (Mary Elizabeth Winstead - Gemini Man, A Good Day to Die Hard etc) was a female assassin working for an organization with her handler Varrick (Woody Harrelson - Solo: A Star Wars Story, Midway etc). When she somehow was poisoned and only had 24 hours to live, Kate decided to look for the culprit.

As she went rampage across Tokyo to find the persons responsible and get her revenge, Kate had to go through numerous dangerous Yakuza members including their advisor Renji (Tadanobu Asano - Mortal Kombat 2021, Battleship etc) the 2nd in command of Kijima (Jun Kunimura - Dream Raider TV series etc). Kate also encountered a teenaged girl named Ani (Miku Martineau) who she used as bait to get to her target.

Cruella - The Wonderful Origin Story of One of the Most Infamous Villain of Disney Movies

After waiting for > 3 months, finally this movie was released on Disney+ yesterday noon. I found out only because my wife noticed from some influencer's post. Anyway, I immediately watched this movie myself since she was still in the middle of watching Korean drama series. Well, I'll just get right on it then.

Estella Walters (Emma Stone - La La Land, The Amazing Spider-man etc) was an aspiring fashion designer who has had a tough life since childhood. She had to live with a couple of thieves named Jasper (Joel Fry - Love Wedding Repeat etc) and Horace (Paul Walter Hauser - Richard Jewell etc) from their young age, until Estella got a job that she thought could propel her career in the fashion industry.

Yesterday this new movie was released on HBO/HBO Go. If I am not mistaken, it never played in Indonesian theaters. So I was delighted to get the chance to see it. Now what was the movie about? I'll get right to it.

Jim Hanson (Liam Neeson - Cold Pursuit, Batman Begins etc) was a former Marine Corps and war veteran who lived only with his dog Jackson at a ranch near the border of Mexico. His life was turned upside down when a Mexican woman named Rosa (Teresa Ruiz - Narcos: Mexico TV series etc) and her young boy Miguel (Jacob Perez) ran into Jim while being chased by the cartel's soldier Mauricio (Juan Pablo Raba - Peppermint etc).

Vacation Friends - Fun Comedy with Some Humor that could Make Us Laugh Out Loud

I almost missed out on watching this movie which was released on Disney+ on Friday. But on Saturday while I was having regular car maintenance, I searched for movies that I could see while waiting. And there it was, a film which seemed raunchy enough to get me laughing. So let us go into this now.

Brief Story Line

Marcus (Lil Rel Howery - Good Boys, Bird Box etc) and Emily (Yvonne Orji - Insecure TV series etc) were having a week's vacation in Mexico. They met and befriended with a wild couple who just want to have fun named Ron (John Cena - Playing With Fire, The Wall etc) and Kyla (Meredith Hagner - Search Party TV series etc). Though at first Marcus and Emily had reservations, they ended up having a wonderful time together. But they tried to forget everything once they returned to their normal day to day lives in Chicago.

Afterlife of the Party - A Nice Enough Movie with Familiar but Still Interesting Concept

Yesterday this new movie and several others were released on Netflix. I was intrigued to watch since it seemed to have interesting premise and looked comedic in nature from the trailer shown. OK let us dive into it now.

Brief Story Line

Cassie (Victoria Justice - Victorious TV series etc) was a very dynamic social personality who love to party with friends with similar interest. During her birthday week, Cassie asked her best friend and roommate Lisa (Midori Francis - Good Boys etc) to join in her party. Unexpectedly though, Cassie had a freak accident which resulted to her demise.   

Before she could pass on to the "Above", Cassie was given the chance to right her wrongs on earth which involved her father Howard (Adam Garcia - Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen etc), her estranged mother Sofia (Gloria Garcia) and Lisa. In doing so, she was aided by a guardian angel named Val (Robyn Scott).

(TV SERIES) Superman & Lois Season 1 - The Story of One of the Most Beloved Superhero from Unique Perspective

Finally I got the chance to watch this series which was just released on HBO Go few days ago. If you access to HBO Go application you would notice that there have been tons of DC movies, series and animated series available there. So it was a total treat for superhero fans out there. Without further ado, I'll get right on it.

Brief Story Line

Clark Kent/Superman (Tyler Hoechlin - Stratton etc) and his wife Lois Lane (Elizabeth Tulloch - Grimm TV series etc) decided to move their family from Metropolis to Smallville. This decision were not really welcomed by their teenage twin boys, the introvert Jordan (Alex Garfin) and the popular & athletic Jonathan (Jordan Elsass). Even Lois' father General Sam Lane (Dylan Walsh - Nip/Tuck TV series etc) was worried of this decision since it might make the villains in Metropolis suspicious of Superman's movement.
