A Quiet Place Part II - Still Highly Entertaining but not as Emotional as the Original

This was one of my most anticipated movies to see last year before the pandemic started. It was scheduled to be released on theaters in March 2020, but it was postponed till May 2021 where it played in Indonesian cinemas for a while before they were abruptly closed due to high increase of new cases. Anyway last month there was already a promotion that this movie would be available on Catchplay+ on 28 July. So yesterday it was ready for streaming with extra fee. OK, why don't I just go straight to the movie.

Brief Story Line

Film started with the scene of Day 1 of the aliens attack in the small town where Lee (John Krasinski - Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan TV series, 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi etc), his wife Evelyn (Emily Blunt - Mary Poppins Returns, Sherlock Gnomes etc) and their children were watching children's baseball game. Flash forward to the Day 474, after the events of the first movie, Evelyn, Regan (Millicent Simmonds) and Marcus (Noah Jupe - No Sudden Move, Ford v Ferrari etc) were trying to move to another location from their previous place.

Blood Red Sky - Highly Entertaining Combination of Plane Hijack with Surprising Horror Element

This is the third movie that I saw on Saturday to make up for not watching anything on Friday. It's a movie that intrigued me since the trailer was shown on Netflix. It looked really exciting with some cool looking actions and interesting premise. OK, why don't I start on it now.

Brief Story Line

Movie started with the arrival of a plane at Glasgow airport that was said to be hijacked. The army led by Col. Drummond (Graham McTavish - The Hobbit trilogy etc) were trying to negotiate with the suspected hijacker. Scene flash back to before the flight took off with Nadya (Peri Baumeister - The Last Kingdom TV series etc) and her son Elias (Carl Anton Koch) who were getting ready to board the plane. Nadya was having some blood related disease and wanted to leave from Berlin to New York for medication. Elias also made acquaintance with a scientist named Nadir (Kais Setti).

(2020) The Hunt - A Very Violent Movie of Group of People Being Hunted

The second movie that I saw during my mini marathon day was the one that I have been eyeing for some time, ever since I saw it in the coming soon section of HBO Go. The premise really looked interesting, so I definitely do not want to miss watching it. All right, we shall go in more details now.

Brief Story Line

A group of unrelated people that included Crystal (Betty Gilpin - The Tomorrow War, Isn't it Romantic? etc), a man from New York (Ike Barinholtz - Blockers etc), podcaster Gary (Ethan Suplee - Motherless Brooklyn etc), Don (Wayne Duvall) and several others woke up in a mysterious place without knowing how they got there. After a short while, they started to get shot at, making them realize they were being hunted by the elitist people who were said to love doing this activity.

Kingdom: Ashin of the North - An Interesting and Nice Addition to the Kingdom Series

I was looking forward to this weekend as it has few new movies on different platforms that look interesting. But sadly, I was unable to watch any one at all on Friday. So on Saturday, I have a mini marathon that started with this movie. Well let's get started then.

Brief Story Line

In the North of Joseon, lived the Jurchens people from Manchurian who were vicious soldiers. As Joseon's government were weary of this threat, they enlisted the help from some Jurchens who have been living in Joseon country and referred to as Northern Seongjeoyain tribe. Their leader Ta Hab (Kim Roi-ha - Memories of Murder etc) was assigned by Joseon's official Min Chi-rok (Park Byung-Eun - Assassination etc) to spy on the Jurchens of Pajeowi. Despite the protest from her young daughter Ashin (Kim Shi-ah), Ta Hab convinced her it was for the good of their people.

Shock Wave 2 - A More Action Packed Stand-alone Sequel of the 2017 Hit

Somehow I found out about this movie going to play on Celestial Movies channel on Sunday, and as I have watched the 1st movie before, I definitely wanted to see this sequel. Plus it also still starring Andy Lau, one of my favorite Hong Kong actors. OK, let's get on with it.

Brief Story Line

Poon Sing-fung (Andy Lau - Chasing the Dragon, Saving Mr. Wu etc) was a member of the Hong Kong Bomb Disposal squad who was close with his partner Tung Cheuk-man (Sean Lau - The Bullet Vanishes, Overheard etc). However, Fung had to retire early due to some reasons which also made him broke his relationship with Pong Ling (Ni Ni - The Warriors Gate, The Thousand Faces of Dunjia etc), the Chief Inspector of Counter Terrorism unit.

(TV SERIES) Secrets of Sulphur Springs Season 1 - Surprisingly Enjoyable Family Friendly Mystery Drama Series from Disney

When I read the synopsis of this series on Disney+ sometime ago, I was intrigued to give it a try. But then I noticed it was only having 5 episodes, and after finding more information on the internet, apparently in total it was having 11 episodes for the first season. So I waited until 2 days ago when the remaining episodes were available and started & finish it yesterday. Now let's get on with it.

Brief Story Line

The Campbell family that consisted of Bennet (Josh Braaten), his wife Sarah (Kelly Frye) and their children Griffin (Preston Oliver) plus the twins Wyatt (Landon Gordon) & Zoey (Madeleine McGraw) moved from Chicago to the small town of Sulphur Springs. The move was not well received by Sarah and especially Griffin who felt disappointed leaving his friends and start new in middle school.

Fear Street Part Three: 1666 - A Satisfying Conclusion to the Unique Horror Trilogy

I have been waiting for this third movie in the trilogy, so for sure when it was released, I immediately watched it as soon as I had the opportunity. Having seen the first two movies and love them, it would be weird if I was not excited for it. Without further ado, here's more on the movie.

Brief Story Line

Set in 1666 where it all began, Sarah Fier (Kiana Madeira) and her younger brother Henry (Benjamin Flores Jr.) were living in the Union together with the original settlers. Sarah and her friends were quite close, and together with Hannah (Olivia Scott Welch), Abigail (Emily Rudd) and Isaac (Fred Hechinger), they liked to hang out in the woods after dark.

(TV SERIES) Loki Season 1 - Quite Fun and Interesting Series of the Favorite God of Mischief

Today, the finale of this series' first season was released on Disney+ and I immediately watched it once I had the opportunity to do so. Like in previous MCU series, I purposely waited for the week of the finale to be shown, before watching all the previous episodes. That way I did not have to wait impatiently every week for new episode. All right, let's get started.

During the events of Avengers: End Game, Loki (Tom Hiddleston - Kong: Skull Island, The Night Manager TV series etc) who used the Tesseract was somehow transported to a mysterious location. But he would soon be captured by the Time Variance Authority (TVA) troops led by Hunter B-15 (Wunmi Mosaku - The End of the F**king World TV series etc). 

Run - An Efficiently Done Psychological Thriller Drama

Like any Saturdays in the past, I always check new movies released on HBO Go platform. This time, I saw a new movie that only has one sentence synopsis which did not provide me anything clear. So I checked a bit more details on the internet and found it to be justifiable for me to give a try. All right, let's get it on.

Brief Story Line

A single mother named Diane (Sarah Paulson - Glass, Ratchet TV series etc) had been taking care of her teenaged daughter Chloe (Kiera Allen) by giving her medications, eating organic food and home schooling her. While she anxiously await for her college application, Chloe continued her study and doing her usual stuff on daily basis.

Chaos Walking - Unique Premise but not Enough Sparks to make for a Wonderful Sci-Fi Movie

Yesterday, I noticed a new movie released on Catchplay+ platform which seemed unfamiliar to me. But when I looked into more detail, apparently it did play in Indonesian theaters for a while 2-3 months back. Perhaps it was playing too briefly that it did not get attention. Anyway, as a relatively new film that I could watch for free, obviously I gave this a try, especially with well known names in it. 

Brief Story Line

Set in the year 2257, in a distant planet called New World, lived a colony of people who moved from earth but had strange condition called "Noise" where their inner thoughts could be seen and heard by others. Todd Hewitt (Tom Holland - Spider-man in MCU, The Current War etc) was the youngest in the all male colony led by its Mayor David Prentiss (Mads Mikkelsen - Rogue One: A Star Wars Story etc). Todd wanted to be acknowledged by the mayor despite the dislike from his son Davy (Nick Jonas - Midway etc). However Todd's adoptive parents Ben (Demián Bichir - Godzilla vs. Kong etc) and Cillian (Kurt Sutter - Sons of Anarchy TV series etc) did not approve his intention.

Fear Street Part 2: 1978 - Second Part of the Trilogy which Amazingly did not Feel Like a Filler

I already posted the first part of this horror trilogy last week and as I was really looking forward to the second part, I watched this one as soon as I could yesterday. So let's get on to it immediately.

Brief Story Line

This second part focused on the events that occurred in 1978, during the summer camp of teens from Shadyside and Sunnyvale in Nightwing camp. Just like in the first part, these two groups were always at each other's throat. Ziggy (Sadie Sink - Stranger Things TV series season 2 onwards etc) who was from Shadyside was being bullied by Sheila (Chiara Aurelia). However, camp counselor Nick Goode (Ted Sutherland) from Sunnyvale was always defending Ziggy.

Major Grom: Plague Doctor - An Interesting Action Movie Adapted from Russian Popular Comic Book Series

I actually have noticed this new movie released on Wednesday, but as I was targeting to finish another series, I opted to postpone it a bit. Last night I finally got the chance to watch it on Netflix. Now I'll head on straight to it then.

Brief Story Line

Story was set in St Petersburg and focused on a police detective named Major Igor Grom (Tikhon Zhiznevsky) who always catch criminals by disregarding procedures. This made his boss Colonel Prokopenko (Aleksei Maklakov) mad for his behaviors. Later, when a rich billionaire's son was set free from obvious crime he committed, successful Tech mogul named Sergei Razumovsky (Sergei Goroshko) and his best friend Oleg (Dmitry Chebotaryov) were among those most critical of such decision.

(2020) Force of Nature - Just Another B Action Movie

After watching a new movie on HBO Go the other day, I came across this film that I wanted to give a try as it seemed like a simple and suspenseful action film, and it also starred few well known names. OK I'll get right into it then.

Brief Story Line

When a big hurricane was going to hit Puerto Rico, the government insisted on people to move to a shelter. Officers Cardillo (Emile Hirsch - Once Upon a Time in Hollywood etc) and Jess Peña (Stephanie Cayo - El Secretario telenovela etc) were assigned to patrol the affected areas and bring the people who still remained in certain areas to safety. 

The Tomorrow War - An Entertaining Movie of War Against Aliens with Awesome Action and Visual Effects

Another movie that was released during last weekend was this one that definitely has the attribute of blockbuster film which I always loved. Add that with a bit of time travel, made this one a must watch for me. OK let's get on with it then.

Brief Story Line

Dan Forester (Chris Pratt - Onward, Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 2, etc) was a biology teacher and living at a nice home together with his wife Emmy (Betty Gilpin - Stuber, Coffee & Karim etc) and their young daughter Muri (Ryan Kiera Armstrong). He was having a strained relationship with his father James (J. K. Simmons - 21 Bridges, Patriots Day etc). Their normal lives changed when suddenly some soldiers from the future appeared in the present and requested the help to fight aliens that were destroying the earth in 2051.

No Sudden Move - Intriguing Movie with Amazing Story Telling though Sometimes a bit too Complicated

As I said in my earlier post, this weekend has been great for me since there were quite a lot of new movies/series released. This one was actually released on Thursday, but I only got the chance to watch it yesterday since this one felt a bit heavy and I prefer to watch it when it was a full holiday like on Saturday. Anyway, will go straight to it.

Brief Story Line

Three small time criminals, i.e. Curt Goynes (Don Cheadle - Ocean's 8 etc), Ronald Russo (Benicio Del Toro - Sicario: Day of the Soldado etc) and Charley (Kieran Culkin - Igby Goes Down etc) were hired by Jones (Brendan Fraser - Doom Patrol TV series etc) to do a simple job. The job was related to Matt Wertz (David Harbour - Sleepless etc) who worked in a major company, but it also impacted his wife Mary (Amy Seimetz - Pet Sematary 2019 version etc) and their children Matthew (Noah Jupe - The Undoing mini series etc) & Peggy (Lucy Holt).

Fear Street Part One: 1994 - Promising Start to a Trilogy of Horror Films based on the Highly Popular Fear Street Novels by R. L. Stine

There were quite a lot of new movies and series released this week in various platforms that made me excited and very much looking forward. Last night, I decided to watch this new one as I have been interested since I saw the trailer which reminded me of the good old 1990s slasher movie. Well let's get into it then.

Brief Story Line

Story was set in 1994 in the small town of Shadyside where there have been various violent killing sprees happening for a long time. When one of their friends became the victim of latest murders by a person wearing skull mask, high school students Deena (Kiana Madeira - Trinkets TV series etc) and her best friends Kate (Julia Rehwald) & Josh (Benjamin Flores Jr. - Game Shakers TV series etc) did not really pay attention to it. They were more focused on their personal issues, including their fierce rivalry with their richer neighbor town, Sunnyvale.

Dynasty Warriors - A CGI Heavy Popular Video Game Adaptation

I saw this movie in part of the coming soon in Netflix, and knowing what it was based on made me wanted to give it a try. Lucky for me that last night when it was released, I had a little bit of time to breath after weeks of working late hours, so I could immediately watch it. OK, will go into the movie now.

Brief Story Line

Set in China during the late Han dynasty, the tyrant Dong Zhuo (Lam Suet - Saving Mr. Wu etc) was controlling the child emperor and basically ruled the kingdom. A lot of people who resent this were plotting to kill him, but he was always protected by his foster son Lu Bu (Louis Koo - A Witness Out of the Blue, Overheard etc) who was a great military general and had amazing fighting skills.
