This was the movie that I wanted to see as soon as I came back from my business trip last week, but I only got the chance to do it yesterday. It was still playing in many theaters and available in all cinema chains, so not too difficult to search for a studio. OK, I'll just head down to the movie now.
Brief Story Line
Three young boys who just reached sixth grade and named themselves the Bean Bag Boys which consisted of Max (Jacob Tremblay - Wonder, Before I Wake etc), Lucas (Keith L. Williams) and Thor (Brady Noon) wanted to become cool kids at school.
As luck would have it, Max was invited to a party held by one of the popular kids named Soren (Izaac Wang) and managed to convince Lucas and Thor to be invited too. However, things got really complicated when they got entangled with a problem involving two high school girls Hannah (Molly Gordon - Animal Kingdom TV series etc) and Lily (Midori Francis).
These three boys need to fix the problem which would take them into various half crazy adventures so they could still attend the party they had been dying to go to. And how would it end for them? Find them all in this truly funny and entertaining comedy movie.
End of Brief Story Line
You know what? It had been quite some time that I enjoyed myself in a cinema so freely. This was one of those comedy movie that was smartly done and very entertaining. My wife and I and the rest of the studio audience shared nonstop laughter throughout the whole movie. There was even one guy sitting in front of us who could not keep to himself and laughed very loudly. And I did not think I saw a single person who played their handphone at all (including my wife who actually wanted to check latest news relating to the current situation then but completely forgotten to do so as she was enjoying herself too much).
The reason why this movie was so fun was the fact that we could really picture these 3 boys in real life. Guys could definitely relate to them cause their behavior was very realistic for a sixth grader, while the ladies could also see the humor in it, I think particularly relating to Max' mission to get the girl he had crush on. And aside from the realistic behavior, we also had really fun because of the various things they had to do and endure to solve their problem, not to mention the things they found in Thor's house.
This movie was rated for adults (and had R rating in the US) despite the main leads were all 3 boys because it was having many sexual and drug references plus very strong languages. There were no kids at all while we saw this movie last night and that was really good, cause young kids should not be allowed to see this film yet. The movie only had 1.5 hour duration but it was a really worth 90 minutes of our time. It did not have any mid or post end credit scenes except providing some nice songs to accompany us.
All three boys in here performed their roles perfectly. Jacob Tremblay who usually played in serious movies managed to show himself as a rather melancholy boy hell bent on getting the girl, while Keith L. Williams was really suitable to play the very honest kid having a problem on his own and Brady Noon also nicely portrayed a kid who just wanted to be popular, plus he was able to sing quite well. There were quite a number of supporting cast as well with some comedians filling the roles of the adults, such as Will Forte as Max' father, Lil Rel Howery (Get Out etc) as Lucas' father and few others.
Overall this was a movie that was really good to my opinion. Behind all those seemingly crazy situations they were in, the 3 boys still had to face consequences for their actions. And not only it had comedic situations but the film also gave one or two emotional moments relating to the friendship they had which did affect my wife and me. So if you are looking to have some fun and want to enjoy yourself, laughing out loud through the whole movie, this would be the perfect choice. But if you do not like to see movie with boys as the main lead, or you are not fan of crude humor and such, then you might not be able to enjoy it. For me and my wife though, this one was just the thing we required to relief our stress.
Happy watching!
