The Voyeurs - A Thriller Movie with Lot of Focus on the Erotic Side

Another new movie was released during last weekend, this time it was on Prime Video. Reading the synopsis, it sounded like an intriguing thriller which made me decided to watch it after seeing other movies. So it was kind of a personal movie marathon. Ok lets start now.

Brief Story Line

A young couple of Pippa (Sydney Sweeney - The White Lotus season 1, Nocturne etc) and Thomas (Justice Smith - Detective Pikachu, All the Bright Places etc) just moved to their dream home in a prestigious apartment building. On their first night there, they noticed another couple in the apartment across their building having sex. Pippa was intrigued by them and began to keep watching their actions closely, up to the point that she started to develop sexual desires.

After finding out that the couple was a professional photographer named Sebastian (Ben Hardy - Bohemian Rhapsody, Pixie etc) and his wife Julia (Natasha Liu Bordizzo - Wish Dragon, Detective Chinatown 2 etc), Pippa became even more obsessed with them. This put a bit of constraint on her relationship with Thomas, especially when Pippa started to meddle in their neighbors' domestic problems which would have surprising repercussions.

So what would happen to them and how would the story conclude? You can find all in this movie.

End of Brief Story Line

When I started watching this movie, I thought it was going to be one with strong psychological thriller sense. As the story progressed though, I felt it was more focusing on the erotic side and to be honest there was very little thrill. It made me wonder whether the thriller category was wrong and this was just an erotic movie. Not until almost the final third of the film that the story suddenly had a shocking twist which made me see the whole movie in a different perspective.

Unfortunately though, I think it was a bit too late resulting to too short of thrilling moments. However, the ending was totally satisfying and pretty intelligent to my opinion. After looking through the closing credit which did not have any mid or post end credit scenes, I could not find reference to any books or if it was adapted/remake from any movies. So it looked like the writer/director Michael Mohan was creative enough to make this story, although the premise of looking over your neighbor had been done numerous times with varying results. This one was not really well received by critics and audience did not seem to adore it as well, as proven by mixed ratings.

There were some explicit sex and nude scenes which made this movie rated R. I have only seen Sydney Sweeney once in the series The White Lotus but her appearance here was surprisingly very mature compared with her performance there. Btw, I totally did not recognize the guy playing Thomas and only realized when I looked at his name on the internet that he has played in few movies that I have seen. Ben Hardy and Natasha Liu Bordizzo were OK as the couple being peeped by Pippa and Thomas.

For a movie that's erotic in nature and had very little thrill, it was not something that was totally entertaining for me. However, the music was quite enjoyable with the soundtrack song of Eyes Without a Trace sung by Angel Olsen (I knew the Billy Idol's version but this one was still nice to hear). Overall if you are looking for a critically acclaimed erotic thriller or well crafted movie focusing on voyeurism, this one might not fit the category. But if your aim is just to watch few steamy sex scenes, then you might find pleasure in this. The choice is yours.
