Wrath of Man - Another Interesting Guy Ritchie's Directed Movie in Collaboration with Jason Statham

This movie played in Indonesian cinemas few months back when my wife and I were not ready to go to see movies in theater yet. So when I saw that it was going to be released on Catchplay+ in October, I was really looking forward to it, and even my wife wanted to see this together with me since she is a major fan of Jason Statham. Even though it was not a brand new film, I still want to write about it. OK let's dive in now.

Brief Story Line

Hill/H (Jason Statham - The MegFast & Furious: Hobbs & Shaw etc) just joined the Fortico security and worked as part of the armored truck team under his supervisor Bullet (Holt McCallany - Monster TruckMindhunter TV series etc). His presence was not really welcomed by his fellow colleagues in particular "Boy Sweat" Dave (Josh Hartnett - Lucky Number Slevin, Penny Dreadful TV series etc). But when H managed to stop a robbery, the others started to respect them.

Meanwhile a group of armed robbers led by an ex military Sergeant Jackson (Jeffrey Donovan - Sicario: Day of the Soldado, Honest Thief etc) was planning to rob the Fortico armored trucks. He was assisted by some of his old team members including the hot headed Jan (Scott Eastwood - The OutpostPacific Rim Uprising etc).

So how would the story conclude? And what was the actual reason for H to join Fortico? Find them all in this interesting action thriller movie.

End of Brief Story Line

So that was an interesting experience. The beginning of the movie was having that unique point of view from inside the armored truck. And it should not come as a surprise since this film was directed by Guy Ritchie (The Gentlemen, King Arthur: Legend of the Sword etc). I have always take a liking to his style of directing which felt stylish and quite unique, although not all his movies were well-liked by critics or had good box office performance. This time he split the movie into 4 parts which showed an incident that occurred from different persons view and culminate into one final major event.

As a fan of Jason Statham's kick-ass attitude, I was definitely hoping for a lot of his fight scenes. However, this film did not have too much of those. There were the occasional gun shooting sequence but the fights were scarce and not too spectacular. The violence though were pretty abundant, particularly during torture and the close-up shooting scenes. Some of them were so graphic that even my wife hesitate to look closely. No wonder it was rated R and 17+ on Catchplay+.

The film was classified action thriller heist which I thought was quite spot on. There were some actions, and it has a heist story as well. It has understandably a dark tone especially with the main reason for H joining Fortico. Btw, this is the fourth time Statham worked under Ritchie. Aside from Statham, there were plenty of other well known actors joining the cast. Several of them I have mentioned above and the others included Andy Garcia (Ocean's 8 etc) as FBI Agent King, Eddie Marsan (Atomic Blonde etc) as Fortico manager Terry and Laz Alonso (The Boys TV series etc) as Carlos one of Jackson's team. Funny thing was when I looked at the names in the opening credits, I thought there was no actresses at all, but apparently there were more than one, including Niamh Algar as Dana one of Fortico security members who my wife said likely I thought it was a guy. Oh there was no mid or post end credit scenes.

As I said earlier, I felt this one did not have too much action for an action thriller movie. But the climax was suspenseful and intense. And it did have a quite satisfying conclusion. What I liked about this movie was definitely the way it has 4 different parts which were intelligently linked. Plus obviously Statham's cool action, though I would have preferred a much more significant amount of the action. Nevertheless it was still an entertaining movie, one that I enjoyed watching together with my wife (who was excited ever since Statham appeared). So if you are looking for another one of Guy Ritchie's movies with his unique style, plus you long for his collaboration with Statham once again, then you can watch this one. It is available at no additional fee for members of Catchplay+.
