(MINI SERIES) Mercy For None - Thrilling Series Full of Brilliant Fight Scenes

Although this series was put under the Coming This Week section in Netflix, I was a little bit hesitant to watch as I thought the premise was pretty standard and there was not a lot of hype about it. But since I just finished another series and was not sure what to watch next, I decided to give it a try on Friday night, a day after its release and managed to complete the whole series yesterday. OK, let's find out more then, shall we?

Brief Story Line

Nam Gi-jun (So Ji-sub - Alienoid: Return to the Future, Oh My Venus TV series etc) used to work for the two largest gangs in Seoul, i.e. Joowon led by Lee Joo-woon (Heo Joon-ho - Dark Nuns, Bloodhounds etc) and Bongsan led by Gu Bong-san (Ahn Gil-kang - Sweet & Sour, A Shop for Killers TV series etc). After a major incident 11 years before, Gi-jun left the organization and became normal person, while his younger brother Gi-seok (Lee Joon-hyuk - The Firefighters, Our Beloved Summer TV series etc) became second in command in Joowon since Mr. Lee's only son Geum-son (Choo Young-woo - Oasis, Trauma Code TV series etc) worked as a Prosecutor. On the other hand, Bong-san's only son Jun-mo (Gong Myung - Extreme Job, Be Melodramatic TV series etc) who was supposed to take over the Bongsan organization was making a lot of trouble that worried his father.

(2025) Ballerina - An Enjoyable Addition to the John Wick Expanding Universe

After the announcement of this spin off to the John Wick universe, I was really excited to see what would be in store. So when it was finally released few days ago, I already set plan to watch the movie yesterday as it happened to be public holiday in Indonesia. Without further ado, let's get right on it.

Brief Story Line

Eve Macarro (Ana de Armas - Ghosted, No Time to Die etc) had been training to become a ballerina assassin with Ruska Roma led by its Director (Anjelica Huston - Prizzi's Honor, The Addams Family etc) for many years as she wanted to get revenge to the killing of her father. In one of the nights living in the head quarter, she encountered for the first time John Wick (Keanu Reeves - Sonic the Hedgehog 3, The Matrix movies etc) and was given brief advice on this dangerous life. 

(TV SERIES) Nine Puzzles - A Pretty Enjoyable Mystery Crime Thriller Disney+ Original Series

I noticed this series in the coming soon section of Disney+ few months back and thought the premise seemed interesting. When I found out that the finale was going to be released on 4th of June, I immediately began to watch it two days before, so I would be able to complete the series on that day. All right then, let's just get to it.

Brief Story Line

An excellent Seoul Criminal Profiler Yoon E-na (Kim Da-mi - Soulmate, Itaewon Class TV series etc) was the witness of her uncle's murder ten years ago and was suspected by the rookie police Kim Han-saem (Son Suk-ku - The Roundup, Big Bet TV series etc), though it was never proven. Because of the trauma that made her lost a bit of her memory, E-na had been seeing psychiatrist Dr. Seong Joo (Park Gyu-young - Sweet Home TV series, Love + Sling etc). In present day, a series of gruesome murders started where the killer left a piece of puzzle to E-na related to each of the crime.

(TV SERIES) Dept. Q Season 1 - Wonderful & Well Written Crime Thriller Series with Engaging Characters & Great Story Telling

I said in one of my previous posts that there were two new shows released on the same day in different streaming platforms last week. As I already opted to watch the other one first, I only started watching this series on Netflix since Saturday & finished it on Sunday. OK here's more on the series then.

Brief Story Line

Experienced Detective Chief Inspector Carl Morck (Matthew Goode - The King's Man, The Good Wife TV series etc) who worked in Edinburgh police office was reassigned by his boss Moira Jacobson (Kate Dickie - Game of Thrones TV series, Damaged etc) to a newly formed Department focusing on cold cases. Despite his obvious resentment, Carl did not have a choice since he was just involved in a major incident earlier that required him seeing psychiatrist Dr. Rachel Irving (Kelly Macdonald - Boardwalk Empire TV series, No Country for Old Men etc). 

Karate Kid: Legends - A Nice Addition to the Beloved Long Running Franchise

Few months ago I saw the teaser of this movie which immediately excite me and my wife. Although it was public holiday on Thursday (a day after it was released in Indonesia), we were having other plans and ended up only seeing the film yesterday. OK, why don't I just get to it then?

Brief Story Line

Li Fong (Ben Wang - American Born Chinese TV serie etc) had been practicing Kung Fu with his great-uncle Master Han (Jackie Chan - Ride On, Skip Trace etc) despite the disapproval from Li's mother, Dr. Fong (Ming-na Wen - Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D TV series, Push etc). When Dr. Fong and Li decided to move from Beijing to New York, both had to adjust with new culture. Li Fong later befriended with Mia (Sadie Stanley - The Sleepover etc), the daughter of Victor Lipani (Joshua Jackson - Dawson's Creek TV series etc) owner of a pizza restaurant. But their friendship was disturbed by Mia's ex boyfriend Conor Day (Aramis Knight - Into the Badlands TV series etc) who was the champion of Karate tournament called Five Boroughs for 5 years in a row.

(Mini Series) The Better Sister - Not Exactly What I Had in Mind, but Likely Would Please Audience Seeking Female Driven Drama with a bit of Mystery

On Thursday, there were 2 new series released on different streaming platforms and both were interesting to me. But as I had to make a choice, I opted to watch this first on Prime Video as it was a limited series that I do not have to worry about having no closure. Anyway I started watching on that night and only finished it this morning. All right, I'll get started then.

Brief Story Line

After coming home from a major social event, Chloe Taylor (Jessica Biel - I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry, 7th Heaven TV series etc) the successful Chief Editor of a popular magazine found her husband Adam Macintosh (Corey Stoll - First Man, The Strain TV series etc) killed in their living room. The shocking incident rocked Chloe and she had no choice but to have her estranged sister Nicky (Elizabeth Banks - Migration, Brightburn etc) step in to take care of her son Ethan (Maxwell Acee Donovan). 

Fear Street: Prom Queen - Just Another Slasher Movie Based on One of Fear Street Book Series

I said in one of my previous posts that there were more than one movie released on Friday last week on streaming platforms, but I opted to watch the other one first. So I ended up watching this only yesterday on Netflix when I had a bit of free time. All right then, let's get right to it.

Brief Story Line

Story was set in the year 1988 in Shadyside where the high school was preparing itself for a senior Prom night initiated by Vice Principal Brekenridge (Lili Taylor - Perry Mason TV series etc). Overall there were 6 girls who were competing for the Prom queen with the notable ones, the outcast Lori Granger (India Fowler - Insomnia TV series etc) and the mean girl Tiffany Falconer (Fina Strazza - Paper Girls TV series etc). 

While Lori's best friend Megan Rogers (Suzanna Son - The Idol TV series etc) was not too approving of Lori's intention, she still supported her decision. However things become horrifying for the school when a mysterious person dressed in red rain coat started killing the prom queen candidates and anyone close to them.

Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning - Great Finale to This Long-running Film Series as Tom Cruise Delivered More Awesome Action Stunts

As I said in my previous post, my wife and I had another movie marathon on Saturday with this film as our second one. Though there were many studios playing it, we decided to go to the cinema that we were almost 100% sure it would be having the Dolby Atmos effects. Anyway, let's just get on with the movie.

Brief Story Line

After the events of previous movie, Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise - The Firm, The Mummy etc) was working together with Benji (Simon Pegg - The Boys TV series, Ready Player One etc) and Luther (Ving Rhames - The Wild Robot, Pulp Fiction etc) who created a malware that in theory could capture the AI referred to as the Entity. However Gabriel (Esai Morales - NYPD Blue TV series, Crescent City etc) who needed the cruciform key hold by Ethan tried to disrupt this plan. With the help from Grace (Hayley Atwell - Peter Rabbit 2, Captain America: The First Avenger etc), former Gabriel's assassin Paris (Pom Klementieff - Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, The Killer's Game etc) and later former CIA agent Degas (Greg Tarzan Davis - Grey's Anatomy TV series etc), they must device an impossible mission to save the world.

(2025) Lilo & Stitch - One of the Nicest Remake of Disney's Animated Movie With Plenty of Heartwarming Moments

This movie was available since Wednesday together with the wide release of another action film that I was eager to see. Since we were only available to see both during the weekend, my wife and I had another one of our movie marathon day yesterday with this as the first. OK let's get started then.

Brief Story Line

Dr. Jumba Jookiba (Zach Galifianakis - Ron's Gone Wrong, The Hangover trilogy etc) did an illegal experiment in his home planet Turo where he created a destructive creature called Experiment 626 (voiced by Chris Sanders - The Croods: A New Age etc). After 626 somehow escaped and landed on the island of Hawaii, Jumba and Earth expert Agent Pleakley (Billy Magnussen - Road House 2024 remake, No Time to Die etc) were assigned to capture him. 626 who arrived on earth realized that in order to save himself, he need to be shielded by humans. He managed to be "adopted" by 6 year girl named Lilo (Maia Kealoha) who was living together with her older sister Nani (Sydney Elizebeth Agudong). 

Fountain of Youth - Might not be Satisfying for Critics and Audience, but I still Enjoyed this Light Treasure Hunt Movie

Yesterday was one of those days where more than one new movies were released in different streaming platform. I opted to watch this one cause it's been a while since I saw the genre of treasure. Without further ado, here's more on the movie.

Brief Story Line

Luke Purdue (John Krasinski - If, A Quiet Place etc) had been going around the world searching for paintings that would give clue to the biggest treasure, the fountain of youth. He worked together with his team that consisted of Murphy (Laz Alonso - The Boys TV series, Detained etc) and Deb (Carmen Ejogo - The Penguin mini series, Alien: Covenant etc) and supported financially by the wealthy billionaire Owen Carver (Domhnall Gleeson - Peter Rabbit, White House Plumbers mini series etc).

(TV SERIES) Bet Season 1 - A Series Inspired by Popular Manga/Anime and Live Action Series "Kakegurui"

This series went unnoticed for me till I saw it in the Coming This Week section on Netflix. When I read that it was adapted from Japanese series Kakegurui I thought it might be interesting. So I gave it a try last Thursday and finished it the day after. Without further ado, here's more on the series.

Brief Story Line

After continuously making troubles at various schools with her gambling addiction, Yumeko (Miku Martineau - Kate, Star Trek: Section 31 etc) got transferred to St. Dominic's private school which was having a hierarchy system based on gambling winnings. It was run by the student council president Kira (Clara Alexandrova - Danger in the Dorm etc) along with her group that consisted of her sister Riri (Anwen O'Driscoll - Burden of Truth TV series etc), social media queen Suki (Ryan Sutherland), the psychotic Dori (Aviva Mongillo - Backstage TV series etc) and Mary (Eve Edwards).

Final Destination: Bloodlines - A Wonderful Sequel to this Long Running Franchise With Intelligent Twist

When this movie had its early screening last week, I was quite disappointed that it only had night shows which was troublesome for me and my wife who are early sleepers. Anyway it was finally released on Wednesday and we saw this yesterday noon in my favorite studio with almost definitely Dolby Atmos system. OK then, I'll get right with it.

College student Stefani (Kaitlyn Santa Juana - The Friendship Game etc) was having nightmares involving her grandmother Iris (Gabrielle Rose - A Dog's Purpose, Excited etc) during her younger days. She decided to go back to her hometown and find out more about her dreams from Iris. There Stefani met with her younger brother Charlie (Teo Briones - Chucky TV series etc) and their cousins Erik (Richard Harmon - I Still See You, The Killing TV series etc), Julia (Anna Lore - Gotham Knights TV series etc) and Bobby (Owen Patrik Joyner - Knight Squad TV series etc). 

Home Sweet Home: Rebirth - Not As Bad As I Thought Would be

When this movie's poster was placed in the biggest Indonesian cinema chains, I was quite intrigued but did not give too much thought about it until I saw the trailer. To be honest, it did not look too promising then. However when the film was finally released yesterday and it played in the cinema very near my home, I felt it was very convenient and decided to give a try by myself as my wife was not keen on the movie. All right, let's just get to it then.

Brief Story Line

Jake (William Moseley - The Chronicles of Narnia movies, The Royals TV series etc) who worked as police in the US was having a vacation in Bangkok with his wife Prang (Urassaya Sperbund - Love You to Debt, Thai Cave Rescue mini series etc) and their young daughter Loo (Akeira Hadden). Their supposedly wonderful trip was disrupted at first when they met with a mysterious monk named Chan (Alexander Lee - 3 Peas in a Pod, Moorim School: Saga of the Brave TV series etc) who seemed to know a lot about Jake.

(TV SERIES) The Eternaut Season 1 - Entertaining Sci-fi Argentinian Series Based on Highly Popular Comics

I have been wondering about this series for quite some time ever since I read many headline entertainment news praising it. After finishing up some series that I was eager to complete, finally I decided to give this a try on Sunday night. And since it only had 6 episodes, I was able to finish the whole season yesterday during holiday. So how was the series then? Let's find out more shall we?

Brief Story Line

On a hot summer night in Buenos Aires, Argentina, a group of middle-old best friends Juan Pablo (Ricardo Darin - The Secret in Their Eyes, Nine Queens etc), Alfredo "Tano" Favalli (César Troncoso - A Twelve-year Night, Brazilian Western etc), Lucas (Marcelo Subiotto - La Barbarie, Puan etc) and Ruso (Claudio Martinez Bel) were gathering at Tano's house to have their usual Truco game time. They were also accompanied by Ruso's brother in-law Omar (Ariel Staltari). However, the night turned into nightmare when a sudden snow fall shocked all of them including Tano's wife Ana (Andrea Pietra - Socias TV series, Son de Fierro telenovela etc) who first noticed the death of people exposed from the snow.

Holy Night: Demon Hunters - A Combination of Action and Occult Horror Movie

This movie caught our attention when it was promoted in various cinemas' social media due to its famous lead cast. After released on Wednesday, my wife and I decided to see the film yesterday which apparently was a bit of a challenge since there were only two studios of our favorite cinema chain that played it. Luckily one of them was near our home which made it convenient for us. All right then, I'll get straight with the movie.

Brief Story Line

Story focused on a trio of demon hunters consisted of the leader Baw (Ma Dong-seok - The Roundup: Punishment, Badland Hunters etc), the exorcist Sharon (Seohyun - Love and Leashes, Jinxed at First TV series etc) and the cameraman Kim Gun (Lee David - Svaha: The Sixth Finger, Squid Game season 2 etc) who roamed the city saving people from evil worshippers and demons. 

After completing their latest assignment, Baw was visited by neurophysicist Jung-won (Kyung Soo-jin - The Noisy Mansion, Mouse TV series etc) who sought his help to cure her younger sister Eun-so (Jung Ji-so - The Cursed: Dead Man's Prey, Curtain Call TV series etc) suffering from what seemed to be possession by evil spirit. Despite his reluctance and the clear danger, Baw finally decided to help Jung-won.

Another Simple Favor - Not a Better Sequel of that Wonderful 2018 Mystery Thriller Movie, but Still Pretty Enjoyable

I got notification from Prime Video about this movie that was just released on the Labor Day Holiday which I was interested in. So once I got the chance yesterday, I immediately watched this to see if it was as good as I hoped for. OK, let's just get to it then.

Brief Story Line

Story was set five years after the events of the first movie, where Stephanie Smothers (Anna Kendrick - Trolls World Tour, Woman of the Hour etc) had been a pretty succesful mystery vlogger and book writer of her experience with Emily Nelson (Blake Lively - The Rhythm Section, It Ends With Us etc). Unexpectedly Emily was able to get an appeal on her case and was released from prison. She even planned to get married with an Italian wealthy guy named Dante (Michele Morrone - 365 Days trilogy etc) in Capri island and insisted Stephanie to be her maid of honor.

Exterritorial - Decent Enough Netflix Original Action Thriller

I have seen the poster to this movie some time back in the coming soon section of Netflix with a brief synopsis that intrigued me. Three days ago it was finally released but I already had my heart set on seeing different movie and continuing another series, so I only watched it last night. All right, I'll just get on it now.

Brief Story Line

Sara Wulf (Jeanne Goursaud - Barbarians TV series, The Chemistry of Death TV series etc) was a former Germany special forces who was suffering from PTSD after a failed mission. When she was recruited for a security job in the US, Sara decided to apply for her work visa in the US Consulate in Frankfurt together with her 7 year old son Josh (Rickson Guy Da Silva). 

Thunderbolts* - Finally An Entertaining, Fun and Lighthearted Movie on Marvel Cinematic Universe Group of Antiheroes

My wife and I originally intended to see this movie during the weekend. However on a last minute change of plan, we decided to see it yesterday noon on the public holiday. So we went to one of our favorite cinema with Dolby Atmos sound system that I like when seeing a blockbuster movie and saw this in a two third fully booked studio. Without further ado, here's more on the movie.

Brief Story Line

Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh - Dune: Part Two, Don't Worry Darling etc) had been doing various special operations for Director of CIA Valentina de Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus - Onward, Veep TV series etc) but feeling unhappy with her life and dirty job. During her supposed last assignment, Yelena met with others like her who also handled same kind of ops, such as John Walker aka U.S. Agent (Wyatt Russell - Monarch: Legacy of Monsters TV series, The Woman in the Window etc), Ava Starr aka Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen - Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City, Killjoys TV series etc) and Antonia Dreykov/Taskmaster (Olga Kurylenko - Sentinelle, Treason mini series etc). When they realized something was wrong, together with the mysterious Bob (Lewis Pullman - Top Gun: Maverick, Salem's Lot 2024 version etc), all hesitantly had to work together to escape.

Ash - An Uninteresting Space Sci-Fi Horror Movie

This movie was released on Prime Video last week but as I was busy with work and finishing other series, I only got the chance to watch it last night. I was interested as its trailer and premise looked good. All right then, I'll get straight to it.

Riya (Eiza González - 3 Body Problem TV series, I Care A Lot etc) was an astronaut who woke up in a distant planet with no memory of herself and what happened to her. As she moved around the place she was stranded, Riya had glimpses of horrific images in her head and started to remember other crew members like Kevin (Beulah Koale - Next Goal Wins, Hawaii Five-O TV series etc), Clarke (Kate Elliott -  The Cult TV series etc), Adhi (Iko Uwais - Expend4bles, Stuber etc) and Davis (rapper/DJ Flying Lotus).

The Accountant 2 - A Long Awaited Sequel to the Entertaining Original 2016 Movie

After we saw the first of our movie marathon day, we had extra time of around 1 hour before the second one started which I used to write a post about another movie I saw the night earlier. Anyway, the film we were about to see was a sequel that I was quite looking forward to as I remembered liking the original many years ago. OK, let's just get started with it then.

Eight years after the events of the first movie, Christian Wolff (Ben Affleck - Hypnotic, The Last Duel etc) was still working as the Accountant and providing various advices for the underworld while trying to be as normal as he could be. But when he was approached by Deputy Director of Treasury Department, Marybeth Medina (Cynthia Addai-Robinson - The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power TV series, The People We Hate at the Wedding etc) who was investigating the case that her former boss Raymond King (J. K. Simmons - Juror #2, Red One etc) was personally looking into, Chris decided to help her.

Drop - An Intelligently Done & Entertaining Thriller

This week there were few new movies released in Indonesian cinemas that interest me. So yesterday my wife and I had another movie marathon with this being the first one. It was something that I had been eyeing ever since I saw its teaser trailer few times before. Without further ado, here's more on the movie.

Violet Gates (Meghann Fahy - The Unbreakable Boy, The Perfect Couple mini series etc) was a widow with one child Toby (Jacob Robinson) who just started dating. On her first date with a photographer Henry Campbell (Brandon Sklenar - It Ends With Us, 1923 TV series etc), Violet asked her younger sister Jen (Violett Beane - Death and Other Details TV series, Renner etc) to babysit Toby. 

(2025) Havoc - An OK Enough Movie from Gareth Evans with Some Over the Top Action but Poorly Done CGI

The last few days have been so hectic for me which resulted to bringing home some of my work load and did not have time to watch anything. Hence I was unable to catch up with lots of new shows and movies in various streaming platforms. However last night I decided to watch this new movie released on Netflix yesterday which intrigued me. OK let's just get to it then.

Brief Story Line

Patrick Walker (Tom Hardy - Venom: The Last Dance, Dunkirk etc) was a dirty homicide detective who was working with his new partner, rookie police Ellie (Jessi Mei Li - Shadow and Bone TV series etc) on Christmas eve when they were called to investigate a case involving the killing of Triad leader. The suspects Charlie (Justin Cornwell - The InBetween TV series, Jingle Jangle etc) and his girlfriend Mia (Quelin Sepulveda) managed to escape but were caught on camera. 

Streaming - A Thriller with Interesting Idea but Lacking a Bit in Execution

Few days ago, this intriguing South Korean movie was released in only one cinema chain in Indonesia. Fortunately for me and my wife, it played at a convenient time in the studio located not that far from our home. So without hesitation, we went to the cinema yesterday and finished the film around lunch time. OK, why don't I get to it now.

Brief Story Line

Woo-sang (Kang Ha-neul - Love Reset, Squid Game season 2 etc) was the number one streamer in a fictional South Korean streaming service called WAG. His contents was analyzing crimes including the latest series of murders by someone referred to as Hemline serial killer. In order to get even more subscribers, Woo-sang collaborated with newcomer Matilda (Ha Seo-yoon - Family By Choice TV series etc).

However, things gotten bad for him due to some controversy during one of his stream. And in order to reclaim his popularity, Woo-sang tried to capture the Hemline murder while doing live streaming.

Sinners - Well Done Period Horror Film from Ryan Coogler With Amazing Performance by Michael B. Jordan

For the second of our movie marathon day, my wife and I chose to see this horror film that was just released on Wednesday. We were at first a bit doubtful if it was going to be supernatural kind which we normally would avoid, but it was a bit hard to tell cause the synopsis and trailer gave very little info. Nevertheless we still gave it a try. All right then, let us get right on it.

Brief Story Line

Set in the year 1932, twin brothers of Smoke the more matured one and the playful Stack (Michael B. Jordan - Creed III, Kin etc) just returned to Mississippi after years in Chicago living as gangsters. They planned to open a juke joint where people could enjoy music, drinks and also gambled. In order to do so, they enlisted Preacherboy Sammie (Miles Caton) and Delta Slim (Delroy Lindo - Point Break 2015 version, The Harder They Fall etc) to play music at the joint. The twins also convinced Cornbread (Omar Benson Miller - CSI: MIami TV series, The Sorcerer's Apprentice etc) to be the doorman, Smoke's ex wife Annie (Wunmi Musaku - Loki TV series, His House etc) to cook and local couple Grace Chow (Li Jun Li - Babylon, The Exorcist TV series etc) with her husband Bo (Yao - The Last Bout TV series etc) to provide help.

Pengepungan Di Bukit Duri - Highly Intense Action Thriller with Strong Social Theme

On Thursday, there was this Indonesian movie released in the cinemas which intrigued me due to its genre and director's name. Since yesterday was public holiday, my wife and I decided to see this together with another new film on our movie marathon day. OK, let's just get on with it then.

Brief Story Line

Set in the year 2027, 18 years after a racial riot in Indonesia, the racism towards Chinese minority was at all time high as they became object of racially motivated violence. Edwin (Morgan Oey - My Stupid Boss 2, Assalamualaikum Beijing etc) was a substitute teacher who had just transferred to Bukit Duri High School with many troubled students. 

A Minecraft Movie - A Fun Adaptation of Hugely Popular Best Selling Game

This movie had its special screening during the previous weekend in Indonesia and only had its wide release last Wednesday. But amazingly, even on Saturday the cinemas were still full of audience which made it very hard for us to get tickets. After hesitating a while, my wife and I finally decided to buy tickets in the cinema that we frequently went even though they were not our favorite seats. Without further ado, here's more on the movie. 

Brief Story Line

Steve (Jack Black - Kungfu Panda 4, Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween etc) was a doorknob salesman who felt he had been wasting his life and decided to go to the mysterious mine that made him curious since childhood. Inside he found a unique world called the Overworld where he felt happy and decided to stay there. However, Steve later uncovered the Nether world with its ruler Malgosha (voiced by Rachel House - Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, Heartbreak High TV series etc) who was trying to take over the Overworld and turn it into a dark place like the Nether. 

(2025) The Amateur - Story of Unconventional Kind of Spy on Personal Mission

This film was just released in Indonesian theaters on Friday and I decided to see this with my wife yesterday. It was the first of our movie marathon day while the other one was something we had been eyeing from last week. All right then, I'll start with the movie now.

Brief Story Line

Charlie Heller (Rami Malek - Amsterdam, Bohemian Rhapsody etc) was a brilliant decoder for the CIA and was living happily with his wife Sarah (Rachel Brosnahan - Spies in Disguise, House of Cards TV series etc). But when he received devastating news from his boss Deputy Director Moore (Holt McCallany - Nightmare Alley, Mindhunter TV series etc), Charlie insisted the CIA to help him resolve it. Despite his repeated requests, the CIA did not really assist Charlie which made him took matter into his own hands.

G20 - An Action Thriller with Familiar Plot

I did not realize this movie was released on Thursday on Prime Video and only realized the day after. Its premise sounded interesting for me and seemed to promise lots of action. So without hesitation, I immediately watch it last night once I was available. All right then, I'll dive into it. 

Brief Story Line

US President Danielle Sutton (Viola Davis - How to Get Away with Murder TV series, The Woman King etc) was planning to implement a new program that would help the poor farmers in Sahara desert. She wanted to bring this program to be approved by other leaders during the G20 convention in South Africa. Together with her husband Derek (Anthony Anderson - Ferdinand, The Departed etc), their two children, the rebellious Serena (Marsai Martin - Black-ish TV series etc) & her younger brother Demetrius (Christopher Farrar), they all went to the convention in a fortress-like hotel in Cape Town. 

(Mini Series) Karma - Great Series With Story that Suit the Title Perfectly

This new limited series that was released by Netflix on 4 April had a very brief, yet intriguing synopsis. But since I was finishing other series, I only got the chance to watch it yesterday and managed to complete in one day. OK, let's just get right to the series now, shall we.

Brief Story Line

Story focused on people whose lives were entangled by ill-fated relationships. The first one was a man whose investment using money borrowed from loan shark was unsuccessful, resulted to him being debt-ridden and referred to as the Debtor (Lee Hee-joon - Badland Hunters, A Killer Paradox TV series etc). Second was Jang Gil-ryong (Kim Sung-kyun - Moving TV series, Officer Black Belt etc), a Korean-Chinese immigrant who was fired from his work and accepted offer to do a job that promised huge pay. Third was a surgeon Lee Ju-yeon (Shin Min-a - No Gain No Love TV series, My Love, My Bride etc) who was caught with the trauma from her past.

(TV SERIES) The Bondsman Season 1 - Interesting Horror Action Series About Undead Bounty Hunter

When I watched another movie on Prime Video the other day, I also noticed a new series with very interesting premise. Originally I thought it would be similar to their other original series and released one or two episodes per week, but apparently all were made available on the same day. So obviously I decided to watch immediately. OK, I'll just get started then.

Brief Story LIne

Hub Halloran (Kevin Bacon - Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F, The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special etc) was a bounty hunter who got into an altercation with one of his targets and got killed. However, he was later resurrected by the devil and "recruited" to work for him to catch demons that escaped from hell. Hub's mother Kitty (Beth Grant - The Mindy Project TV series, Speed etc) was shocked when she found out but decided to assist him in his missions. 

Holland - Rather Disappointing for a Supposedly Psychological Thriller

I have seen this new movie released on Prime Video last week but did not have the chance to watch as I was in the middle of finishing other series. Last night while looking for something new to see, I remembered about the film and decided to watch it. OK, let's get it going then.

Brief Story Line

Story was set in the year 2000, in Holland, Michigan where school teacher Nancy (Nicole Kidman - The Perfect Couple mini series, Paddington etc) was living happily with her husband Fred Vandergroot (Matthew Macfayden - Deadpool & Wolverine, Ripper Street TV series etc) and their 13 year old boy Harry (Jude Hill - A Haunting in Venice etc). But when Nancy started noticing that Fred had been frequently going on conferences, she suspected of him having an affair.

(TV SERIES) Who Saw the Peacock Dance in the Jungle? - Despite Its Sometimes Melodramatic Moments and Slow Burn Process, but the Series was Pretty Worth the Watch with Its Multiple Shocking Twists

During 2 weeks vacation with my wife, I did not have chance to see anything in the cinemas but I did complete few series on Netflix. As they were released some time back, I decided to write about this Japanese series instead, since its finale was made available only recently and I finished it last night. All right then, I'll get right to it.

Brief Story Line

Komugi (Hirose Suzu - The Third Murder, Chiyafuru trilogy etc) was a college student living only with her ex-cop father Haruo Yamashita (Lily Franky - Tokyo Swindlers TV series, Shoplifters etc) for years. On the Christmas eve, Komugi's father was found murdered on their burnt house. Haruo's old partner from the police, Detective Akazawa (Fujimoto Takahiro - Rurouni Kenshin: The Beginning, Golden Kamuy 2 TV series etc) caught the culprit Endo Tomoya (Narita Ryo - Modern Love Tokyo anthology series etc) who was the son of convicted murderer of the whole Hayashikawa family that occurred 22 years before.

Invincible Swordsman - Another Adaptation of Jin Yong's Popular Martial Arts Novel

Few days ago, I watched this Chinese movie that I have also been eyeing when it was released during vacation with my wife. It was very challenging since very few cinemas left showing the film. In fact it was no longer available in Indonesia from yesterday. Anyway, here's more on the movie.

Brief Story Line

Ling Huchong (Tim Huang - The Forbidden Depths, Captain Han TV series etc) was the Huashan sect disciple who always had mind of his own and dislike following rules of martial arts world. Due to some reasons, he was expelled by his teacher Yue Buqun (Zhang Lu - Undercover TV series etc) but later become the direct student of Grand Master Feng (Sammo Hung - Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In, Mr. Nice Guy etc) and learnt even greater skills.

(2025) Nocturnal - A Slow-Paced Crime Thriller With Disappointing Few Unresolved Things

As one of the movies that I missed out during vacation with my wife, I tried to catch this one before it's gone. There were just 3 cinemas left playing this movie yesterday, so my wife and I went to the one easiest to access from our home. Well I'll just get right to it then.

Brief Story Line

When his beloved brother Seok-tae (Park Jong-hwan - Confidential Assignment 2: International, Taxi Driver 2 TV series etc) was found dead, Min-Tae (Ha Jung-woo - Hijack 1971, Take Point etc), a former convict decided to search for the truth. His first instinct was to find out what happened from Seok-tae's boss, gang leader Chang-mo (Jung Man-sik - I, The Executioner, Rampant etc). During his investigation, Min-tae also learnt that his brother's girlfriend Moo-young (Yoo Da-in - The Cave, Memorials TV series etc) was missing and started to look for her.

Ne Zha 2 - An Absolutely Entertaining, Action-packed Chinese Animated Movie that Broke Various Box Office Records

After reading the news about this movie for a couple of months, I was excited to hear that it would be released in Indonesia. However it was done while I was on vacation with my wife and hence we had to wait till we return to Jakarta. Yesterday we finally got the chance to see it in one of the cinemas not far from our home. Without further ado, here's more on the film.

Brief Story Line

Story was set immediately after the events in the first movie where the bodies of Ne Zha (Lu Yanting) and his best friend Ao Bing (Han Mo) were destroyed. Ne Zha's teacher Master Taiyi (Zhang Jiaming) tried his best to recreate their bodies but due to some complications, they had to find other ways to complete the work. To do so, Ne Zha had to leave his parents General Li Jing (Chen Hao) and Lady Yin (Lu Qi) to go to Yu Xu castle managed by Master Wuliang (Wang Deshun - Wu Kong, Heavenly Sword and Dragon Slaying Sabre 2019 series etc) to complete three trials and collect a special treasure.

A Working Man - Another Satisfying Statham's Action Thriller Movie

Though the movie was released only this week, technically it is still one of the film that I tried to catch up after my vacation. Since yesterday I was allowed to leave work earlier before the long holiday, together with my wife we were able to see the movie at a more convenient time. OK, why don't I just get to it then.

Brief Story Line

Levon Cade (Jason Statham - Meg 2: The Trench, Fast and Furious: Hobbs & Shaw etc) was a former Royal Marine who left the force to be a good father to his young daughter Merry (Isla Gie). He chose to work as a construction worker for the company owned by Joe Garcia (Michael Peña - Fantasy Island, The Lego Ninjago Movie etc). When Joe's daughter Jenny (Arianna Rivas - Prom Dates etc) was kidnapped by some human traffickers, Levon was asked to find her. 

(2025) Snow White - Despite Its Surrounding Controversies, Still a Pretty Enjoyable Live Version Adaptation of Disney's Classic

After having vacation out of the country for 2 weeks with my wife, I was eager to play catch up with the movies released during those time. Yesterday evening, we opted to see this film in the cinema just walking distance from our home. All right, let's just get on with it.

Brief Story Line

Snow White (Rachel Zegler - Shazam! Fury of the Gods, The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes etc) was a princess who lost her parents since she was young. Meanwhile her step mother, the Evil Queen (Gal Gadot - Heart of Stone, Wonder Woman etc) was obsessed of being the fairest of all by constantly checking on the Magic Mirror (voiced by Patrick Page - Spirited, The Gilded Age TV series etc). Fearing that Snow White would trouble her in the future, the Queen confined her in the palace and turned her into the maid. One day, Snow White met and sympathized with a thief/rebel named Jonathan (Andrew Burnap - The Front Room, Under the Banner of Heaven mini series etc) who was eager to defy the Queen. After the Evil Queen was told by the Mirror that she was no longer the fairest, she decided to kill Snow White and instructed the Huntsman (Ansu Kabia - Miss Scarlet and The Duke TV series etc) to do so. 

Mickey 17 - A Movie Having Very Unique Story and Strong Dark Humor from Bong Joon-ho

I have seen the trailer to this movie few times before and I thought it looked really interesting. So when it was finally released mid of the week, my wife and I decided to see it yesterday after we have a little get together earlier. OK, I'll just get to it then.

Brief Story Line

Story was set in the future where people had found an inhabitable planet called Niflheim which took 4.5 years to reach. An expedition led by politician Kenneth Marshall (Mark Ruffalo - The Adam Project, Now You See Me 2 etc) and his wife Ylfa (Toni Collette - Juror #2, Hereditary etc) was done to conquer the planet with many personnels including scientists, security agents like Nasha Barridge (Naomi Ackie - The End of the F***king World TV series, Blink Twice etc), pilot such as Timo (Steven Yeun - Nope, Beef TV series etc) and last but not least, an expendable Mickey (Robert Pattinson - The Batman, Tenet etc).

The Monkey - The Pretty Awesome Adaptation of Stephen King's Short Story

Last night I decided to see one of the new movies released in Indonesian cinemas this week. It was a rare opportunity since during the fasting period, my office allowed all employees to leave earlier. Although it was a horror, my wife and I felt it would not be too scary for us as it was said to be comedy horror. All right then, why don't I just get to it.

Brief Story Line

In 1999, young twin brothers Hal and Bill (Christian Convery - Sweet Tooth TV series, Cocaine Bear etc) who were living with their mother Lois (Tatiana Maslany - She-Hulk: Attorney At Law TV series, The Other Half etc), found a Monkey toy left by their father and played with it. Unbeknownst to them, the toy somehow created an event that resulted to the death of someone close. Feeling it would be dangerous, they decided to hid it somewhere.

Demon City - A Very Dark and Violent Revenge-driven Movie Based on Japanese Manga

When I saw this movie in the Coming Soon section of Netflix and its cool looking poster, I was interested to give it a try. But as I was finishing another series, I only got the chance to watch this last night, 3 days after its release. So how was the film then? Let's find out more, shall we?

Shuhei Sakata (Toma Ikuta - Hanamizuki, Beyond Goodbye TV series etc) was a professional hitman who informed his handler Fujita (Taro Sugura - Tokyo Swindlers TV series etc) that he wanted to retire and live peacefully with his family. Unfortunately for him, a group of masked men murdered them and pinned the crime to Sakata by showing that he committed suicide.  

Legends of the Condor Heroes: The Gallants - Despite Focusing on Final Chapters of the Beloved First Book of Jin Yong's Trilogy, Still Pretty Entertaining Movie in the Wuxia Genre

After weeks of waiting for the movie to be released in Indonesian cinemas, finally it was available on Wednesday. My wife and I decided to see it yesterday as doing so on weekdays would be very tiring since it has long duration. Anyway, why don't I just get right to it.

Brief Story Line

Story was set during Southern Song dynasty period where its people were caught in the war between Jin dynasty and Mongols. Guo Jing (Xiao Zhan - Jade Dynasty, The Untamed TV series etc) who was an excellent martial artist was separated from the love of his life Huang Rong (Zhuang Dafei - My Wife's Double Life TV series, Be My Wife etc). While searching for her, Guo Jing met with his Mongol old friends that included To Lui (Alan Aruna - The Knockout etc), third son of Genghis Khan (Baya'ertu). He later decided to return to Mongolia to meet his mother Li Ping (Ada Choi - S Storm, Empresses in the Palace TV series etc), though things got complicated when Guo Jing also met with the Khan's daughter Huajun (Zhang Wenxin) who was betrothed to him.

(TV SERIES) High Potential Season 1 - Fun, Light & Enjoyable Police Procedural Series with Interesting Lead Character

I noticed this series under the new release section of Disney+ channel and read a bit on the premise which sounded interesting. But I only started watching 3 nights ago when I saw that the finale would be available on Thursday & finished it last night. OK, I'll just get started then.

Brief Story Line

Morgan Gillory (Kaitlin Olson - Finding Dory, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia TV series etc) was a cleaning lady for the LAPD who noticed something bothering her on a murder board. The Detective in charge Adam Karadec (Daniel Sunjata - Echoes mini series, Graceland TV series etc) found out it was Morgan who did something on the board. It would be revealed later that she was a High Potential Individual (HPI) who could deduce things based on what she saw. Lieutenant Soto (Judy Reyes - Devious Maids TV series, Smile etc) saw her potential and decided to appoint Morgan as consultant for the police despite the reluctance and skepticism from Karadec, although the other Detectives Daphne Forrester (Javicia Leslie - Batwoman TV series, Always a Bridesmaid etc) and her partner Lev Ozdil (Deniz Akdeniz - The Flight Attendant TV series, Dumb Money etc) were more open minded.

(2025) Cleaner - Straight Forward Action Thriller Movie that Should Please Fans of Such Genre

There were few movies released in Indonesian cinemas this week wIth one or two that interest me. This was one of them that my wife was willing to accompany me see. So we went to a cinema not far from our home after my wife's event in the morning. All right, let's get to it then.

Brief Story Line

Joey Locke (Daisy Ridley - Star Wars: The Rise of the Skywalker, Chaos Walking etc) was a former military officer who was discharged and had to work as window cleaner in a high rise building together with another cleaner Noah (Taz Skylar - One Piece live action series etc). One day Joey's autistic older brother Michael (Matthew Tuck) was waiting for her in that building when a group of environment activist led by Marcus (Clive Owen - Gemini Man, Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets etc) attacked and kept everyone inside.

(MINI SERIES) Zero Day - Intriguing Political Thriller With Some Brilliant Acting by Its Cast

Two days ago this limited series was released on Netflix. I was interested to give it a try cause the plot seemed intriguing even if it was categorized as political thriller which is usually heavy. But since it was said to be limited series, I thought it would be nice without worrying if it would be renewed in future. OK, without further ado, here's more on the series.

Brief Story Line

After a large cyber attack in the US that killed thousands, president Evelyn Mitchell (Angela Bassett - Gunpowder Milkshake, American Horror Story TV series etc) decided to appoint non partisan former president George Mullen (Robert De Niro - Amsterdam, The Godfather Part II etc) to lead an indenpendent commission and investigate the persons behind and stop further attacks. George's daughter Congresswoman Alexandra (Lizzy Caplan - Now You See Me 2, Cobweb etc) though, was against him leading the commission as he already retired and living peacefully with his wife Sheila (Joan Allen -  Nixon, The Contender etc). However, George's trusted assistant Roger (Jesse Plemons - Windfall, Game Night etc) encouraged him to take the position which he ultimately did.
