Brief Story Line
After the events from the first movie, the Croods led by the father Grug (Nicolas Cage - The Humanity Bureau, USS Indianapolis: Men of Courage etc) with his wife Ugga (Catherine Keener - Brand New Cherry Flavor TV series, Incredibles 2 etc), their oldest daughter Eep (Emma Stone - Cruella, Zombieland: Double Tap etc), only son Thunk (Clark Duke - Kick-Ass, The Office TV series etc), the grandmother Gran (Cloris Reachman - Raising Hope TV series, Spanglish etc) and the toddler Sandy were still trying to find the best location for them to stay. Accompanied by Guy (Ryan Reynolds - Free Guy, Deadpool 2 etc) who was developing romantic relationship with Eep despite the objection from Grug, they somehow find a paradise-like place.
It was later found out that the place was developed by Phil (Peter Dinklage - I Care a Lot, The Angry Birds Movie 2 etc) and Hope Betterman (Leslie Mann - Motherless Brooklyn, 17 Again etc) with their daughter Dawn (Kelly Marie Tran - Raya and the Last Dragon etc). Their modernized way of living was completely the opposite of Grug's prehistoric style which made it challenging for the Croods to adapt.

End of Brief Story Line
As expected, this movie was full of scenes that would make us laugh out loud. Even though my wife and I felt some of them were a bit exaggerated, but there were so many of those fun moments that we were willing to forego those ridiculousness. What I definitely liked about this movie was the natural comedy arising from certain situations.
The animation here was not the really beautiful type which was understandable as the focus was not on the lovely sceneries or the life-like characters. However the contrast of appearance between the Croods and the Bettermans were wonderfully enhanced by the different looks of the characters What amazed me was the awesome voice cast who managed to bring life to these interesting people.
I admired the work of Kirk DeMicco (director of Vivo etc) and Chris Sanders (director & writer of Lilo & Stitch, How to Train Your Dragon etc) who provided the story, as well as the director Joel Crawford. Btw, the film was produced by Dreamwork Animations which was famous for their production of hugely popular and successful franchises such as Shrek, Kungfu Panda, Madagascar and many more. With such pedigree, I think it would not come as a surprise that the movie was quite highly regarded. It even received the 2020 Golden Globe nomination for Best Animated Feature Film.
The film has a duration of only 95 minutes which was just perfect, as too long would not make this enjoyable. It did not have any mid or post end credit scene but it did have few interesting songs during the closing credit. One of the songs in here was the classic True by Spandau Ballet which was placed in just the perfect moments. Now even though this is an animated film, it is not for all ages, which was why it was PG rated. For me and my wife who were looking for something fun, this was just nice. But if I have to compare, I liked the original movie better as it was more suitable for story of the prehistoric period, since the modern side here sometimes felt a bit too much.
Overall it was stil an enjoyable and fun movie, perfect for those who just want to have silly fun looking at prehistoric people having to adjust with more evolved people. The movie is currently available on HBO Go platform and HBO channel.
