The Boss Baby: Family Business - Still as Fun and Cute as its 2017 Predecessor

There were few new movies released in Indonesian cinemas during this week. My wife and I were interested with some of them but ultimately we decided to see this comedy movie first because I personally was looking for something light and fun after days of serious works. Now I will dive into it.

Brief Story Line

30 years after the events in The Boss Baby, Tim (James Marsden - Sonic the Hedgehog, The Notebook etc) was now a grown up and married to Carol (Eva Longoria - Dora and the Lost City of Gold etc) with 2 daughters Tabitha (Ariana Greenbalt) and the baby Tina. As an adult, Tim grew apart with his younger brother Ted (Alec Baldwin - Motherless BrooklynDrunk Parents etc) and have not spoken for quite some time.

Mean time the Baby Corp new boss was worried about Dr. Erwin Armstrong (Jeff Goldblum - Thor RagnarokJurassic World: Fallen Kingdom etc) whose plan might result to the loss of childhood. So it's now up to Tim and Ted to work on their differences to save the baby's world again.

End of Brief Story Line

I am glad that I decided to see this movie yesterday with my wife as it was just like I had hoped for. It was filled with funny and hilarious scenes of the babies doing ridiculous stuff. It also still showed some nice brotherly relationship between the adult Tim and Ted, but added with more family stuff. After all the family just got bigger as well with the additional new members.

Most of the original cast from the first movie reappeared in this film including Jimmy Kimmel and Lisa Kudrow (Hotel for Dogs, Friends TV series etc) as Tim's parents respectively. However, James Marsden took over from Tobey Maguire as the adult Tim. In addition, there was a new cast member who was very crucial in this sequel. i.e. Amy Sedaris (BoJack Horseman TV series etc). All their voice acting were brilliant to my opinion and aided by the great animation of their facial expressions, made the characterization became amazing and lifelike.

Like its predecessor, this movie relied heavily on the cuteness of the babies who have adult mind but were in baby/child's body. However, there was also a bit of singing done by Tabitha which was part of the story, so it did not make it become a musical. The story was very simple, easy enough to understand even for children. Having some amusing scenes certainly made this one entertaining for kids and adults like us who were just hoping to have some fun. Obviously having only 107 minutes duration was nice as it was not too long that would bore us. Btw, there was no mid or post end credit scene.

This movie was loosely based on children's books The Boss Baby and The Bossier Baby written by Marla Frazee which had positive reviews. Sadly though this movie was not really having such glowing review. Nevertheless, audience seemed to enjoy it as it still managed to have decent box office performance, albeit not as good as its first film.

Overall my wife and I did enjoy the film. We have lots of laughs and it was the perfect thing to release stress. It was very light with a bit of strong family values message too. Those looking for silly fun without thinking, well this movie will give them to you. As long as you do not expect this to have a truly deep & beautiful story, then you should be able to enjoy this like me and my wife.

Mike's movie moments rating: 4 out of 5 stars
