Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 - A Lovely and Emotional Conclusion to the Hilarious Team of Superhero

Once again we were given a new movie from Marvel and this time it was the third of this ragtag team who have been quite a favorite for me and my wife. So we did not hesitate to see this movie as soon as we could. Since I was busy with work in the past few days, we only got the chance to do it during the weekend. All right then, let's get on with it.

Brief Story Line

Peter Quill (Chris Pratt - The Terminal List TV series, The Super Mario Bros. Movie etc) and his fellow guardians Rocket (Bradley Cooper - Nightmare AlleyThe Hangover trilogy etc), Drax (Dave Bautista - Glass Onion: A Knives Out MysteryFinal Score etc), Mantis (Pom Klementieff - Sleepless Night, Uncut Gems etc), Nebula (Karen Gillan - The BubbleStuber etc) and Groot (voiced by Vin Diesel - BloodshotThe Fate of the Furious etc) were living in the Knowhere together with lot of other people. Peter was still feeling down from the demise of Gamora (Zoe Saldana - Avatar: The Way of WaterThe Adam Project etc) and despite the appearance of younger version of Gamora, she did not have any recollection and closeness with him.

One night, Knowhere was attacked by a powerful being later on revealed to be Adam Warlock (Will Poulter - Midsommar, The Maze Runner trilogy etc) who was instructed by High Evolutionary (Chukwudi Iwuji - Peacemaker TV series etc) for an assignment. This attack resulted to the Guardians decision to embark on a very dangerous mission where they had to go to the enemy's location.

So how would the story conclude? You could find them all in this movie.

Brief Story Line

Oh wow that was just an amazing experience! I loved this movie a lot with its story, humor, action and the many wonderful moments. From the opening scene which pretty much hinted where the story would focus on, continued with the song Creep by Radiohead where we were shown Peter's condition, we could feel that it was going to be an emotional ride. And it was certainly full of the touching scenes which really affected both of us.

Just like in the first two movies, there were the constant humorous banter among the whole Guardians and few other characters who had appeared previously, like Kraglin (Sean Gunn) and Cosmo (Maria Bakalova - Bodies Bodies Bodies etc) that added the comedic element. We could still laugh out loud on several scenes which showed Drax' simple mind, Mantis' naive nature, or Groot's 3 specific words which could only be understood by them (there was one sweet scene related to this towards the end of the movie), or Peter's over confidence.

In term of actions, they were entertaining. The fights involving Adam Warlock was always cooly done, but my favorites were the ones in the Counter-earth and the major fight during the climax. The scenes where we could see the fight from the point of view of different Guardians as they fought together against some enemies was just awesome and breathtaking. Oh few times I felt a bit of violence were shown in here which was kind of surprise (and even 1 time with the F word, albeit humorous in nature which I think was never done before?). The music and songs in the background were also great. Supported by the superb Dolby Atmos sound system in the studio just enhanced my experience. It was the main reason I always insisted to see blockbuster movies with such sound effect at this favorite cinema of mine.

The story here was definitely a plus point. I feel that James Gunn really did an extraordinary job as he wrote a beautiful story of completely different type of people who managed to work together, bond and became an unlikely family. He really had a great vision of how they would end up. As we saw the Guardians grew through three movies (including several time in other Marvel movies and one Christmas Special), I felt this film was a very satisfying conclusion and ended the trilogy on a high note. There were 2 mid end credit scenes which may or may not have an impact on the future of Marvel movies.

Btw, this movie had a duration of 2.5 hours which really did not feel that long as we enjoyed the journey from start to finish. And how could we be bored with so many humorous, emotional and even few suspenseful scenes? The enemy was also very villainous and I felt Chukwudi Iwuji was brilliant as he was so evil, especially all the things he did to one of the Guardians member. Oh, aside from the names I mentioned above, there were few other cast who reprised their roles like Sylvester Stallone (SamaritanCreed 2 etc) as Stakar and Elizabeth Debicki (Peter Rabbit etc) as the high priestess Ayesha plus new ones such as the very familiar Nathan Fillion (Castle TV series etc) and several others.

Overall this was a truly entertaining superhero movie and certainly a memorable one with its very engaging characters, beautiful story of friendship, strong emotions and some amazing actions even if it is not full action type. My wife even clapped her hands on few occassions as she felt entertained by them. Except for Spider-man: No Way Home, I personally felt this was the most enjoyable Marvel movie after Avengers: End Game. It was actually a bit sad that likely we will not be seeing all of them together anymore. So if you love Guardians of the Galaxy, this is a must see movie which would give you the pleasure of completing their whole story.

Mike's movie moments rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars
