The King's Warden - Wonderfully Acted, Brilliantly Told & Beatufully Done Historical Drama Movie

I had been aware about this movie for a while now and became really interested when I read it was a major success in South Korea. But I did not realize it was already playing in Indonesia on Wednesday so we only saw it yesterday when we had the chance. It was a bit of challenge cause the movie did not play in that many studios. Luckily one of them was the cinema not far from our home. All right then, let us get on with the film.

Brief Story Line

Set during Joseon periode, the young King Yi Hong-wi (Park Ji-hoon - Weak Hero TV series, Audrey etc) was overthrown and demoted to a normal Lord called Nosan. Minister Han Myong-hoe (Yoo Ji-tae - Money Heist: Korea - Joint Economic Area TV series, The Swindlers etc) tried to push Nosan losing his will to live by putting him into exile. Meanwhile Cheongnyeongpo village chief Eom Heung-do (Yoo Hae-jin - Exhuma, Yadang: The Snitch etc) who heard about the nice things for an exile place, managed to convince Myong-hoe to choose his village and he himself became the Warden.

Dongji Rescue - The Awesome Story of the Amazing Rescue Act Based on Historic Event During World War 2

For the second of our movie marathon day, my wife and I went to see this Chinese film. Its premise seemed interesting from the very brief synopsis in the cinema website. But we had to move to different location since it did not play in the cinema we saw the first movie. All right then, I'll just get started.

Brief Story Line

Story was set in the year 1942 where Japanese ship named Lisbon Maru carrying 1816 British Prisoners of War (POW) was shot down by US submarine in the waters of Zhousan islands. As the ship started to sink, the Japanese saved their own crews but left the POWs inside the hatches.

Harbin - Slow Paced Historical Drama Movie with Intriguing Plot

On New Year's day, there were two movies released in Indonesian cinemas which interest me and my wife. As mentioned in my previous post, we saw both of them on another one of our movie marathon last Saturday. All right then, I'll just head on to the second film now.

Brief Story Line

Story was set in the year 1909 during the time when Korea was part of the Japanese empire and focused on the Korean resistance fighters. One of their leaders was Ahn Jung-geun (Hyun Bin - Rampant, Crash Landing on You TV series etc) who had pledged and made plans to assassinate the Prime Minister of Japan, Ito Hirobumi (Lily Franky - Tokyo Swindlers TV series, Call Me Chihiro etc) in Harbin where he was scheduled to meet with Minister of Russia.

(Mini Series) Shogun - A Critically Acclaimed Historical Drama Series Set in 17th Century Japan

I started watching this limited series a day before its final episode was made available on Disney+ last week. It took me a while, but I finally managed to finish the whole season on Sunday night. OK, let's get started then.

Brief Story Line

Story was set in the year 1600 where a trading ship from England was stranded on the coast of Japan in Izu province. It was only left with few crews that included Pilot John Blackthorne (Cosmo Jarvis - Lady Macbeth, Persuasion etc) who were immediately taken prisoner by the locals. Kasugi Yabushige (Tadanobu Asano - Kate, 47 Ronin etc), the ruler of Izu planned to use the ship for his own benefit. But Lord Yoshii Toranaga (Hiroyuki Sanada - John Wick: Chapter 4, Army of the Dead etc) whom Yabushige served, somehow got wind of it and took over the ship instead. Toranaga also instructed Blackthorne to be brought to Osaka where he was meeting with other regents, including Lord Ishido Kazunari (Takehiro Hira - Gran Turismo, Giri/Haji TV series etc).

(2021) The Last Duel - Intriguing Story Based on True Events During Medieval Era in France

Two days ago I found out there was a new movie released on Disney+ which caught me by surprise as it was quite new (released in the US in mid October 2021) and if I am not mistaken, did not play in Indonesian theaters. It was interesting for me as I remember reading some good things about the film. So here's more on the movie.

Brief Story Line

Set in medieval time in France, Jean de Carrouges (Matt Damon - Ford v Ferrari, Downsizing etc) started to befriend a squire named Jacques Le Gris (Adam Driver - Star Wars: The Last Jedi, House of Gucci etc) during the war. Upon their return, both were informed to serve under Count Pierre d'Alençon (Ben Affleck - Live By Night, Argo etc) by King Charles VI (Alex Lawther - The End of the F***king World TV series etc). While Jean was a brute person, Le Gris was much more educated and managed to gain the trust from Count Pierre, which made their friendship grew apart.

Midway - A World War II Movie with Some Great Visual Effects and Focusing (a Bit too Much?) on Historical Accuracy

To my surprise, this movie premiered on Friday which was usually set for comedy or animated movies. But this time it was a war action movie that my wife and I saw its trailer once few weeks ago and were immediately intrigued by it. As my wife was still on vacation and she told me not to wait for her, I saw this one today by myself. So how was the movie? Let's find out more below.

Brief Story Line

Set during the World War 2, story was focusing on the battle between the US and Japanese Naval forces. After the Pearl Harbor attack, Admiral Nimitz (Woody Harrelson - Zombieland: Double Tap etc) was now assigned to take command on the US Naval forces while supported by the intelligent officer Edwin Layton (Patrick Wilson - Aquaman etc).

The Great Battle - An Amazing War Movie with Some Breathtaking Battle Scenes

During the flight home to Jakarta last week, I was browsing through the inflight entertainment of Garuda Indonesia which unfortunately had not been updated for more than 2 months and mostly the films (even TV series) have been watched by me. But then I noticed this movie which somehow eluded me few times earlier. I thought a war movie might be nice for a change and there was no other worthy option anyway, so I gave this a try. How was the movie? Let's get more into it now.

Brief Story Line

Set in the year 645AD during the Tang Dynasty in China, their emperor Taizong (Park Sung-woong - The Dude in Me, Monstrum etc) led an army of 500,000 men to invade Goguryeo (one of the ancient kingdoms of Korea). When they were almost reaching the capital, they encountered a rather small city of Ansi which Taizong thought would be easy picking.

The Kid Who Would be King - A Light Kid-Friendly Re-telling of the Legendary Excalibur Sword

This movie did not get a lot of publication (at least in Indonesia). I only saw the trailer twice earlier and thought it seemed like a nice adventure movie based on the classic famous story. Anyway as our usual Wednesday movie premiere, my wife and I saw this film in the theater nearest to our home. Well let's get on with it now.

Brief Story Line

Alexander Elliot (Louis Ashborne Serkis) was a young elementary kid who was raised by his mother (Denise Gough) and best friends with Bedders (Dean Chaumoo). Both of them were kind of outcast in their school and always bullied by Lance (Tom Taylor - The Dark Tower) and Kaye (Rhiana Doris). One night, Alex stumbled upon a sword in a stone which he could pull out and seemed to be Excalibur, which was the famous King Arthur's sword hundreds of years ago.
