Dongji Rescue - The Awesome Story of the Amazing Rescue Act Based on Historic Event During World War 2

For the second of our movie marathon day, my wife and I went to see this Chinese film. Its premise seemed interesting from the very brief synopsis in the cinema website. But we had to move to different location since it did not play in the cinema we saw the first movie. All right then, I'll just get started.

Brief Story Line

Story was set in the year 1942 where Japanese ship named Lisbon Maru carrying 1816 British Prisoners of War (POW) was shot down by US submarine in the waters of Zhousan islands. As the ship started to sink, the Japanese saved their own crews but left the POWs inside the hatches.

During last weekend, I watched 3 new movies on various platforms and this was 1 of them. I was intrigued to try as it seemed promising. OK let's get on with it.

Brief Story Line

In 2006, there were several military outposts set up by US Armies in Afghanistan to support reconstructions of the country. One of those was called Kamdesh Outpost which was under the command of Captain Keating (Orlando Bloom - Carnival Row TV series, Pirates of the Carribbean movies etc). For some time, the outpost has been the subject of attacks from the Taliban due to its position that was surrounded by mountains, making it difficult to defend.

(Special Screening) 1917 - A Genius and Extraordinary Work from Sam Mendes

After generating rave reviews and multiple nominations plus few already won awards, this movie certainly is on top of my to see list. So when my wife got the invitation to special screening of the film before its official premier date, I was so excited and could not wait for the time to come and see it. Well enough said on that part and let's get on with the film.

Brief Story Line

During the World War I in 1917, two young British soldiers Corporal Will Schofield (George MacKay - Marrowbone, Ophelia etc) and Corporal Tom Blake (Dean-Charles Chapman - Game of Thrones TV series etc) were given special assignment by General Erinmore (Colin Firth - Mary Poppins Returns, Bridget Jones Diary trilogy etc) to send a message to Colonel MacKenzie (Benedict Cumberbatch - The Grinch animated version, Star Trek Into Darkness etc) to cancel an attack on the Germans as it was a trap.

Midway - A World War II Movie with Some Great Visual Effects and Focusing (a Bit too Much?) on Historical Accuracy

To my surprise, this movie premiered on Friday which was usually set for comedy or animated movies. But this time it was a war action movie that my wife and I saw its trailer once few weeks ago and were immediately intrigued by it. As my wife was still on vacation and she told me not to wait for her, I saw this one today by myself. So how was the movie? Let's find out more below.

Brief Story Line

Set during the World War 2, story was focusing on the battle between the US and Japanese Naval forces. After the Pearl Harbor attack, Admiral Nimitz (Woody Harrelson - Zombieland: Double Tap etc) was now assigned to take command on the US Naval forces while supported by the intelligent officer Edwin Layton (Patrick Wilson - Aquaman etc).

The Great Battle - An Amazing War Movie with Some Breathtaking Battle Scenes

During the flight home to Jakarta last week, I was browsing through the inflight entertainment of Garuda Indonesia which unfortunately had not been updated for more than 2 months and mostly the films (even TV series) have been watched by me. But then I noticed this movie which somehow eluded me few times earlier. I thought a war movie might be nice for a change and there was no other worthy option anyway, so I gave this a try. How was the movie? Let's get more into it now.

Brief Story Line

Set in the year 645AD during the Tang Dynasty in China, their emperor Taizong (Park Sung-woong - The Dude in Me, Monstrum etc) led an army of 500,000 men to invade Goguryeo (one of the ancient kingdoms of Korea). When they were almost reaching the capital, they encountered a rather small city of Ansi which Taizong thought would be easy picking.

Operation Red Sea - A Very Long War Action & Second All Time Highest Grossing Chinese Movie Till Date

Few days ago I found out that this biggest Chinese movie of 2018 would be playing in the Celestial Movies channel, so I decided to give it a try. I read it was a war action movie so should be fun. It premiered for the first time last night at 9 PM and I was ready for it fifteen minutes earlier as I do not want to miss the beginning. Well we shall move on to the movie now.

Brief Story Line

The country Yewaire near Africa was on the verge of a potential civil war between the rebel group who were planning to coup and the official government and army. There were quite a number of Chinese personnel and workers in that country whose lives could be in danger. A small team from the Chinese Naval army called Jiaolong Assault Team led by Yang Rui (Zhang Yi) was assigned to infiltrate the country and evacuate these Chinese citizens to board the vessels outside the country.
