Ready or Not 2: Here I Come - A Worthwhile Sequel to the Amazing 2019 Horror Comedy

Finally this movie was made available in Indonesia after premiering in the US roughly one month ago. It was released on Wednesday but due to my busy schedule, my wife and I only got the chance to see it yesterday. We saw it in the nearest cinema from our home. Without further ado, here's more on the film.

Brief Story Line

Immediately after the events in the first movie, Grace (Samara Weaving - Eenie MeanieGuns Akimbo etc) was hospitalized and got a visit from her estranged younger sister Faith (Kathryn Newton - Ant-man and the Wasp: QuantumaniaDetective Pikachu etc). Unfortunately, Grace must rejoin the game as explained by the Lawyer (Elijah Wood - The Toxic Avenger, Sin City etc) where she had to avoid being killed before dawn once again. Despite her flat rejection, Grace had no choice but to play as Faith was being used as collateral.

The people who were trying to kill Grace consisted of five wealthy family heads, from Ignacio (Nestor Carbonell - Shogun mini series, The Dark Knight etc), Wilkinson (Kevin Durand - Kingdom of the Planet of the ApesThe Naked Gun 2025 etc), the twins Titus (Shawn Hatosy - Alpha Dog, Animal Kingdom TV series etc) & Ursula (Sarah Michelle Gellar - I Know What You Did Last Summer movies, Ringer TV series etc), Chen Xing (Olivia Cheng - Warrior TV series, Lucky Star etc) and Viraj (Nadeem Umar-Khitab).

So what would happen to Grace and Faith and how would the story conclude? You could find out in this movie.

End of Brief Story Line

Well once again the directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett were able to make another entertaining horror movie. It should not come as a surprise since both of them were pretty successful in their collaboration before on films such as AbigailScream VI and few others. They were able to maintain their quality here with the gore killing and some smartly done humor. I believe this was also contributed by the writings done by Guy Busick (who had worked with the directors previously on the movies above, including the original film) and R. Christopher Murphy.

Obviously the center of attention was on the lead cast. Now Samara Weaving was given the support by Kathryn Newton who played her younger sister. And I got to say their chemistry was awesome and they looked just like real life sisters. Funny thing that Faith reminded my wife a lot on her niece which at times she did look to have some similarities in her behavior. Anyway their performance was definitely one of the good things in here. Aside from the ones I mentioned above, the film had some other supporting cast like Varun Saranga (Wynona Earp TV series etc) as Viraj's brother Madhu, Maia Jae (Wayward mini series etc) as Ignacio's daugher Francesca, David Cronenberg (Slasher TV series, director of highl rated movies like The Dead Zone, A History of Violence etc) as Titus & Ursula's father Chester and few others. All of them provided some humor and added nice variety as they came from different background.

The movie's duration was 108 minutes including closing credits, though there was no mid or post end credit scene. It seems like the film already had its full closure and it might be a difficult task to create another sequel that would complete a trilogy. However, if the movie makers are able to do so, it would be an amazing feat and I would definitely be watching it. The ending to me was brilliantly thought of and both of us were really satisfied with it. Btw, unlike its predecessor which was censored in Indonesia, I did not notice anything that was cut in this film. So even if we saw this in the cinema, it did not take the pleasure out of it.

As a movie categorized as comedy horror, this one fit the genre nicely. Though the movie has some supernatural element, but it is not a ghost horror kind. It has plenty of gore killings and action that should please audience who are looking for such in a film. Critics were generally impressed with the film and it has a quite respectable box office performance grossing more than double of its initial budget. In the end, this is a fun and entertaining movie for me and my wife. Both of us enjoyed the intensity, the humor and the action. There were also few jump scare scenes which were done quite effectively. The sound system in the studio was adequate and did not disappoint which made it a pretty great experience. So if you are looking for a fun horror comedy movie and if you like the original back in 2019, I am sure you would like this just like my wife and I did.
