Brief Story Line
Famous detective Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig - Casino Royale, Layer Cake etc) was called up by Geraldine Scott (Mila Kunis - Luckiest Girl Alive, The Spy Who Dumped Me etc) the police chief of a small town where a murder happened in a Catholic Church. The Church itself was led by Monsignor Jefferson Wicks (Josh Brolin - The Running Man 2025 remake, Deadpool 2 etc) and Father Jud (Josh O'Connor - Challengers, The Crown TV series etc), the new Assistant Pastor. They were assisted by Martha Delacroix (Glenn Close - Back in Action, Fatal Attraction etc) who had been very devoted to the Church since childhood and also the groundskeeper Samson (Thomas Haden Church - Spider-man 3, Twisted Metal TV series etc).
Due to Wick's extreme preaching, a lot of people avoided going there except for only several loyal parishioners including town doctor Dr. Nat Sharp (Jeremy Renner - Hawkeye TV series, Wind River etc), lawyer Vera Draven (Kerry Washington - Scandal TV series, The Six Triple Eight etc), her adopted child Cy Draven (Daryl McCormack - Bad Sisters TV series, Good Luck to You, Leo Grande etc), sci-fi novel writer Lee Ross (Andrew Scott - 1917, Ripley mini series etc) and disabled cellist Simone (Cailee Spaeny - Alien: Romulus, Bad Times at the El Royale etc).
The case was very unique for Blanc as it involved strong faith and a seemingly impossible murder in confined space. So how would the story conclude? You could find out in this movie.
End of Brief Story Line
Well they really did it again! The combination of Daniel Craig who was so perfect in portraying this well known Detective Benoit Blanc (with new hair style but still as intelligent and witty as ever) and the writers Ram Bergman with director Rian Johnson (who also made Knives Out and its sequel Glass Onion) had maintained the quality of the previous two films in here. The writing was still very solid with surprising twists multiple times and managed to keep us guessing till the very end. Even though there was one time during the big reveal that gave a rather obvious hint of the culprit, I still enjoyed the movie due to its really good ending.
Once again the whole cast did fantastic job in here. It seemed that every one enjoyed their time which said a lot about the quality of the director. And with such quality, no wonder the critics were truly impressed while audience also liked it. Strange thing though that I read somewhere the previous Knives Out movies never made it to the Top 10 streaming in Netflix. But who knows, the third time is a charm and this one could become a major hit. Whatever the future hold, I loved this movie and hope there would be another sequel in future (which might become a reality due to the success and both Craig & Johnson also enjoyed making them).
In addition to the main characters above, there were also other people in supporting role such as Jeffrey Wright (The Batman, Westworld TV series etc) as bishop Langstorm, Annie Hamilton (Between the Temples etc) as Jefferson's mother Grace, James Faulkner (Chief of Station, Da Vinci's Demons TV series etc) as Jefferson's grandfather Reverend Prentice and few others in minor capacity. The star of the film was definitely Daniel Craig but there was a lot of praise for Josh O'Connor as well. For me personally though, I thought Josh Brolin was excellent and really convincing as this obnoxious Pastor Jefferson Wick. He had been very productive this year with 3 different but very good movies. Glenn Close was wonderful too proving she still got it.
The case itself was something unusual cause it involved faith and a bit of religion with Benoit Blanc understandably gave some witty remarks due to his kind of character. The mystery started off as something not too extraordinary and I had few guesses of how it was done that was half right. But what I liked was the way it evolved which made the big reveal became a worthy experience to watch as I really did not see it coming. Like in previous installments, the film had a duration of more than 2 hours (144 minutes to be exact) including closing credits but without any mid or post end credit scene.
Overall this was another great mystery movie that fans of whodunit genre would have been entertained. It was a joy to watch the people in here and there was never a dull moment which made watching it for over 2 hours did not feel boring or tiring. So if you like Benoit Blanc and his unique way of solving major murder mystery, then I am sure you would enjoy this as well as I did. Cannot wait till my wife's in the mood to see this so we can talk about it. Happy watching!
