Brief Story Line
Six years after the events of Deadpool 2, Wade Wilson (Ryan Reynolds - IF, The Croods: A New Age etc) was already retired as Deadpool and working as used car sales together with Peter (Rob Delaney - Ron's Gone Wrong, The School for Good and Evil etc) and still friends with his ex girlfriend Vanessa (Morena Baccarin - Fast Charlie, Homeland TV series etc). When he was approached by the Time Variance Authority (TVA) high ranked officer Mr. Paradox (Matthew MacFayden - Succession TV series, Anna Karenina etc) to become one of their agents, Wade was very excited and decided to come out of retirement.
However, once he found out about the danger to his universe, Wade tried to recruit Logan aka Wolverine (Hugh Jackman - Reminiscence, Van Helsing etc) to work together and save the world by fighting against the enemies led by Cassandra Nova (Emma Corrin - A Murder at the End of the World mini series, My Policeman etc).
So how would the story conclude? You could find out in this movie.
End of Brief Story Line
After few release of movies and series from Marvel Studios that were not exactly awesome, finally we got a film that was totally amazing. My wife and I really enjoyed the previous two Deadpool movies so we already know what to expect from him. But what we did not anticipate was how cool it was to see him and Wolverine together where they would show everything they have got and then some. All type of fight scenes were available in here which would satisfy fans of both superheroes, especially Wolverine whose vicious nature was truly shown here from the way he fought and killed, something that previous movies did not really show. And the chemistry between them was such a joy to see.
The story though was a bit too convoluted to my personal opinion and the multiverse was a bit complicated. It had links to the Loki series, especially season 2 which was mentioned by Deadpool very clearly in here. If you have known his habit of breaking the fourth wall, then you would know that he did them frequently and still did the same here. Does it mean not watching Loki would make you having difficulty in enjoying this film? I would say not exactly cause my wife did not seem to really care and was still entertained, cause the action sequence and the jokes were much more emphasized and were more impressive. But seeing them before might give better understanding. The movie was directed by Shawn Levy who had worked together with Reynolds in The Adams Project, Free Guy and other films too.
Like any other MCU films, there were so many appearance of other heroes in the past. Since I prefer not to give any spoiler, I better let you find them out yourselves. Unless if you have seen this movie, then I am sure you would be in awe like us of how many of them and how unexpected they were. Except for 1 character whom my wife could have already guessed. These multiple characters were one of the factor that made this movie so enjoyable especially added with the jokes that were said so many times (those remarks about Disney & 20th Century Fox were hilarious).
However, it did make me feel the characters from the original films like Dopinder the taxi driver (Karan Soni), Negasonic (Brianna Hildebrand), Blind Al (Leslie Uggams) and few others felt very minor here and a little under appreciated despite being the best supporting in previous movies. I guess it is inevitable since being part of the large universe, the focus had to be on the more bankable characters. But I did like how they manage to include some of the heroes and villains from the past, prior to the creation of Marvel Cinematic Universe. Oh in case you are wondering, Deadpool and Wolverine are mutants so naturally the focus would be more on mutants as well (X-Men and others). I am sure we will get to see more Deadpool in the future especially with the huge Box office performance.
Overall, this is a really entertaining movie where you would see so many well executed action sequence with wonderful special effects and great sound effect (enhanced by Dolby Atmos system), practical jokes by breaking the fourth wall, a lot of characters from previous films and even new one. Although, the link to the larger story line in MCU was a bit forced personally to me. I guess it was challenging to insert them except from the multiverse point of view. Funnily enough this was mentioned briefly by Deadpool where he seemed to act like our personal devil advocate and voice the view of some fans. Btw the film had duration of 128 minutes including closing credits which had some interesting mid end credit scene and a very funny post end credit scene. So if you are fans of Deadpool and Wolverine, you would be very satisfied with this. But if you expect this to be the standard safe for kids superhero movies like previous MCU films, then you better think twice before bringing your young children to see this. For me and my wife, we definitely had a lot of fun.
