Brief Story Line
Jae-pil (Lee Sung-min - The Devil's Deal, Shadow Detective TV series etc) and his half brother Sang-gu (Lee Hee-joon - Badland Hunters, Mouse TV series etc) were two kind-hearted guys but their appearances and behaviors made them looked like really bad people. And this affected their first encounter with a group of college students who felt intimidated by them, particularly Mina (Gong Seung-yeon - The First Responders TV series, Aloners etc). As they drove to their new home in a really remote place, Jae-pil and Sang-gu were stopped by Police Chief Choi (Park Ji-hwan - The Roundup: Punishment, Nokdu Flower TV series etc) and his partner Officer Nam (Lee Kyu-hyung - All of Us Are Dead TV series, Seoul Vibe etc) who were suspicious with them.
Unexpectedly for Jae-pil and Sang-gu, the house they bought apparently had some evil spirit. And things became more complicated when the college students somehow mistook them as kidnappers due to various mishaps.
So how would the story conclude? You could find out in this movie.
End of Brief Story Line
Well it has been quite some time since my wife and I laughed out loud frequently while watching a South Korean movie in the cinema. To be honest, I was a bit skeptical at first cause sometimes these comedy movies tend to be over rated or over hyped by some people. But I was quite pleased that this was not the case cause we did have a good time seeing this. It's too bad that the studio was not filled up to its capacity as we could only heard scattered chuckles, otherwise I believe it would be full of audience laughter.
Anyway from the start, we were already shown how poor the appearances of the two guys who always thought they were handsome (at one point they were discussing on the different kind of good looks each possessed, which obviously were not the case). And frankly the prejudice of the people who met them could have happened, though probably not too extreme like in here. Got to hand it to the main stars Lee Sung-min and Lee Hee-joon who were really suitable playing these characters. Yes, they were indeed the stars that my wife admired, especially Sung-min who she thought was always brilliant in the films/series she watched.
Aside from those two, Park Ji-hwan was the perfect addition with his poor judgment & bad attitude despite being the Police Chief. In addition to the names I mentioned above, there were also additional cast such as Jang Dong-joo (Count, Class of Lies TV series etc) as the obnoxious college student/famous golfer Sung-bin, Kang Ki-doong (Crash TV series, Fatal etc) as the object of his bullying Byeong-jo, Park Jeong-hwa (Between Him and Her TV series etc) as Mina's friend Bora and few others in support roles/cameos. But the one that really caught our attention was definitely Woo Hyun (Fabricated City, Racket Boys TV series etc) as Father Kim, as he managed to make my wife laughed the hardest (till after the movie ended), even with his brief scene.
Btw, there was no post end credit scene in the movie, but there was brief funny scene and some photos shown during the closing credit. I also noticed that the movie was a remake of another film titled Tucker & Dale Vs. Evil. As I never watched it before, I read more info on that film and found out it was highly regarded and the plot was almost similar to this, except for the supernatural horror. Oh in case you are wondering, the horror was not absolutely terrifying and did not make me and my wife felt horrified. I think there were only two jump scare scenes which somehow did not scare us but made us laughed afterwards instead. The movie was directed by Nam Dong-hyeop in what seemed to be his directorial debut.
Overall this was an enjoyable horror comedy film for both of us and we were happy to have seen it in the theater. And to our delight, the screen brightness was better than usual as we could see everything quite clearly and the sound effect was also greater than the ones in other CGV studios. Only thing that could not be rectified was the seats position that were not steep enough, resulting us having difficulty seeing the screen if the people in front of us were tall (like we experienced yesterday). Anyway, the movie itself was fun and it brought joy to us. So if you like rather slapstick, hilarious comedy arose from various unexpected incident and misunderstanding, then I think you would enjoy this. But it might not be to your liking if such kind of humor was not to your preference. If you want to give it a try, the movie is currently playing exclusively in CGV cinemas in Indonesia. It seemed South Korean audience also embraced it, as it already reached the Country's Top 10 Box Office for 2024.
