Spiritwalker - An Interesting Mind Bending Action Thriller Movie

I got notification of this movie from Catchplay+ last weekend and after reading its synopsis, I could not help to be intrigued by the premise which was said to be combination of The Bourne Identity and Memento. So after settling the voucher for single rental on the platform, I watched this with my wife on Sunday. Now let's get to it.

Brief Story Line

A man (Yoon Kye-sang - The Outlaws, The Greatest Love TV series etc) woke up from an apparent car accident without any memory after a homeless person (Park Ji-hwan - The Pirates: The Last Royal Treasure etc) was trying to get some stuff from the car. While trying to figure out who he was, somehow the man seemed to "move" to another location but his appearance looked different.

As he continued his search for his identity, the man came across various people such as police chief Lee (Yoo Seung-mok - Pipeline etc), a mysterious woman later on revealed to be Jina (Lim Ji-yeon - Obsessed etc) and a person who seemed to be leader of a gang (Park Yong-woo).

So what actually happened to the amnesiac man and how would the story conclude? Find them all in this pretty exciting and definitely intriguing action thriller movie.

End of Brief Story Line

As I mentioned above, the reason why I was interested in this movie was because of the really unique premise. And from the very beginning, there was a detail scene which my wife and I spotted and felt it to be important clue. While we were still looking at the confusion the protagonist had, then suddenly a shocking scene was shown which was amazing and set up for even more excitement for us. From that moment on, it was an enjoyable ride to find out what happened to the man with no memory.

During his search for his identity and encountering various people, the most memorable one was the homeless person. There was a scene which was quite amusing that made my wife burst with laughter. The story development was quite fast and apparently not as complicated as I thought it would be. Personally to me, the analogy of The Bourne Identity met with Memento might be a bit off in particular for Memento (that one was a real tough act to follow and it's not exactly apple to apple with the case in here). Regardless though, the premise was still very unique and intelligent to our opinion.

There were also some actions in here, with an awesomely done finale which was quite breath taking. To me it gave a pretty satisfying conclusion. The film's duration of 108 minutes was just nice and did not feel draggy or too brief. There was no mid or post end credit scene. The lead cast Yoon Kye-sang was quite perfect in this role and he was able to do cool action stunts as well. I was not familiar with most of the cast and only knew Yoo Seung-mok whom I have seen more than once before, but I thought they all did their job adequately. Oh I also felt that there were not so much emotional scenes here, except maybe once during the climax scene.

Overall to me this was a good mystery action thriller movie with really interesting premise. It might not be as explosive or a complete mind bending film where you need to see it few times to really understand the whole concept, but it was still a pleasant experience. Btw, the movie did well enough commercially in South Korea where it was top of the chart for 2 consecutive weeks. Too bad it was not released in Indonesian cinemas. Fortunately for us though that we are able to watch it on Catchplay+ albeit with extra cost. So if you are looking for such entertaining movie, then you can give this a chance.
