The Curse of Bridge Hollow - A Very Light Horror Comedy Family Movie

Just like in the previous years, Netflix has a habit of releasing horror themed movies and series during the month of October. Yesterday this movie was first released and since I was in the mood for something light, I decided to watch it. Well let's get to it then.

Brief Story Line

14 year old Sydney (Priah Ferguson - Stranger Things TV series etc) was unhappy when she had to move with her father, science teacher Howard Gordon (Marlon Wayans - Scary Movie, G.I Joe: The Rise of Cobra etc) and mother Emily (Kelly Rowland - Freddy vs. Jason etc) to the small town of Bridge Hollow. She became more excited though as they moved during Halloween period where she could properly celebrate it, unlike when they were in Brooklyn.

(2021) Candyman - Too Much Focus on the Social Aspects and too Little Horror to Terrify Us

Yesterday during the Halloween (which was not a real holiday in Indonesia but people just love the festivity feel), my wife and I decided to see this horror movie. It was actually already released in theaters since Wednesday, but we were no longer in the habit of seeing movies on their premier day. Which was why we just see them as and when we have the time. Anyway, why don't I just get into it now?

Brief Story Line

Story was set in 2019 where an artist named Anthony McCoy (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II - AquamanBaywatch movie etc) just moved to a new apartment in Cabrini-Green with his girlfriend Brianna (Teyonah Parris - Wandavision TV series etc). As he was preparing for an exhibition, Anthony tried to search for inspiration from the history of the surrounding neighborhood which he heard from Brianna's brother Troy (Nathan Stewart-Jarrett - Misfits TV series etc). While looking around, he met with a local resident named William Burke (Colman Domingo - If Beale Street Could Talk etc) who told him about the legend of Candyman.

Hubie Halloween - May not be His Best Work, but Still a Fun Movie from Adam Sandler

This movie was just released through Netflix and I got the chance to watch it last night. It starred Adam Sandler so I thought it would be good to have some fun. This was also one of those rare times that my wife had seen a film before me. OK, I'll get on with the movie now.

Brief Story Line

Hubie Dubois (Adam Sandler - Hotel Transylvania 3, 50 First Dates etc) was a very kind & simple minded person who has lived in Salem all his life with his mother (June's Squibb - Nebraska etc). He has made it his personal mission to make sure Halloween was safe for everyone by becoming self-appointed Monitor, though this action was not accepted by the townspeople, including Sgt Steve Downey (Kevin James - Paul Blart: Mall Cop, Pixels etc). However, Hubie's old crush Violet (Julie Bowen - Life of the Party, Modern Family TV series etc) was always supportive of his kind deeds.

VISIONS - A surprisingly Little Bit Different Kind of Supernatural Horror Movie

As usual during another one of our weekend staycation with my wife (this time we were staying in a hotel outside Jakarta), I would not miss out on watching a movie that I never saw before in the hotel room. After browsing through the available channels on TV, I decided to watch this movie as it was part of the Saturday premiere of new movie. There was another movie which may have more quality playing in HBO (titled Steve Jobs), but as that channel was not available, I chose to watch the one playing in Fox Movies Premium. Apparently, to get ourselves ready for Halloween night on 31 October, the channel was playing horror movies every night at 8PM Indonesia time till that day. And so let's get on with the movie itself.

Brief Story Line

Eveleigh Maddox (Isla Fisher - Confessions of A Shopaholic, Now You See Me etc) was involved in a car accident where a baby died as a result. Despite her husband David (Anson Mount - Walk the Talk, Non-stop etc) trying to convince her that it was not her fault, Eve still felt guilty and having nervous breakdown & stress. A year later, Eve and David moved to another town and wanted to open a vineyard where they put all their money into this new place. Eve was now pregnant and seemed happy staying in the new place.
