Brief Story Line
After participating in a science fair held by renonwned scientist Cyrus Strange (Bill Hader - Power Rangers, It: Chapter Two etc), Wednesday (Chloƫ Grace Moretz - Tom & Jerry, Shadow in the Cloud etc) was feeling unhappy. Her father Gomez (Oscar Isaac - Dune, Star Wars: The Last Jedi etc) decided to go on a family road trip across the US to bond with her and to cheer her up.
They were joined by Wednesday's mother Morticia (Charlize Theron - Atomic Blonde, The Fate of the Furious etc), her younger brother Pugsley (Javon Walton - Euphoria TV series etc), the butler Lurch (Conrad Vernon) and Uncle Fester (Nick Kroll - Sing 2, Big Mouth TV series etc). Meanwhile Grandmama (Bette Midler - The First Wives Club, Gypsy etc) was left at home.
However, their road trip proved to be challenging as they were being chased by a lawyer named Mr. Mustella (Wallace Shawn - Toy Story movies etc).
So what would happen to the Addams family? You can find them all in this movie.
End of Brief Story Line
Since I saw the First movie back in 2019, I did not need any introduction or refreshment course on the characters anymore. So I like it when the story went immediately straight to the main focus, which was Wednesday's estranged feeling and her father's insistence in getting close to his daughter by going through a road trip. The story of Addams family going for vacation actually reminded me a bit on another animated movie franchise where its third film was also focused on family vacation.
Anyway, it would not be really interesting if there was no conflict at all. This time it was in the form of new characters in this sequel. The humor itself still relied heavily on the craziness of the family including uncle Fester facing weird transformation or Wednesday's ridiculous abuse on her younger brother Pugsley (who was now voiced by Javon Walton instead of Finn Wolfhard) and the surprisingly funnier Lurch who I think was my wife's favorite here. Watch out for that fun scene involving him in the middle of the movie.
Despite some funny scenes here and there though, from what I read critics were not that appreciative of the humor. I myself felt that it was OK and we both quite enjoyed the movie, even if it might not be the most entertaining one. It has simple enough story and managed to give us laughter in certain scenes. The ending was quite predictable with something that made us curious, but luckily it was explained throughout the end. Having only 93 minutes including closing credits (no mid or post end credit scene at all) was just nice. The music was interesting and there was even the appearance of rapper Snoop Dogg as Cousin Itt who provided a scene where he sang.
Overall this was a pretty decent comedy animated movie focusing on the weirdness of Addams family. It might be more appealing for those who liked the TV series or the first film, but probably not so much for the ones who did not enjoy them before. However, if you just want to have fun seeing this strange family with some whacky humor, then you would likely enjoy this one. As long as you do not expect a heart warming & intelligent kind of comedy movie, then you should be fine.
