Brief Story Line
Wanting to find their own "destiny", the possum twins Crash and Eddie (both voiced by Vincent Tong), left their adoptive sister the mammoth Ellie (Dominique Jennings) & her husband Manny (Sean Kenin Elias-Reyes), the saber tooth Diego (Skyler Stone) and the sloth Sid (Jake Green) for an adventure of their own. They somehow ended up in the Lost World and met with their old friend, the one eyed weasel Buck Wild (Simon Pegg - Truth Seekers TV series, Star Trek Beyond etc).
However, Buck was having problem as a protoceratops named Orson (Utkarsh Ambudkar - Free Guy, Ghosts TV series etc) was trying to disrupt the harmonious Lost World and wanted to rule it. So Crash and Eddie were caught up in the middle of the fight between Buck and Orson while trying to save the Lost World with the additional help from Buck's old friend, a zorilla named Zee (Justina Machado - Queen of the South TV series etc).
And how would the story conclude? Find them all in this movie.
End of Brief Story Line
I was actually pretty interested in watching this movie as it was a spinoff of the Ice Age franchise that my wife and I quite liked. However, we were a bit skeptical as the character of Buck Wild was not really our favorite. But we still gave it a try and hoping that it would be fun. When the early part was focusing a bit on Crash and Eddie, we were quite OK with them as their ridiculous irresponsible behavior and the conversation between themselves were still funny to watch. Plus the original main characters of Manny, Diego, Sith and Ellie were also around, even though they were not voiced by the original actors/actress.
Once Crash and Eddie met with Buck, we got to see these whacky characters interact and sometimes it was fun but mostly just boring. It was funny how both of us were feeling bored by the film that my wife and I dozed off in turn. I think it's possibly due to we were not that into these characters. Perhaps if the focus was still on Manny and the gang, we would have enjoyed it better. Likely this franchise was getting too old for us and already ran out of steam ever since the 5th movie Ice Age: Collission Course.
From what I read, this movie was not appreciated by the critics as well, which we kind of agreed. Yes there might be few scenes that we could still laugh (the ones that we thought was really funny were the two raptors who was with Orson from beginning). The animation was still good (though not as beautiful as the original films) with some nice sound effects. But in general, we just did not enjoy it as much as we hoped for. It was a good thing that the movie was very short (only 82 minutes) and we got to see this from our home instead of spending the time and effort to go to the cinema.
Overall it was disappointing seeing one of our beloved franchise went like this. If you happen to have liked the original movies, I think it would be best to just skip this one to preserve your good memory.
