Brief Story Line
Violet Gates (Meghann Fahy - The Unbreakable Boy, The Perfect Couple mini series etc) was a widow with one child Toby (Jacob Robinson) who just started dating. On her first date with a photographer Henry Campbell (Brandon Sklenar - It Ends With Us, 1923 TV series etc), Violet asked her younger sister Jen (Violett Beane - Death and Other Details TV series, Renner etc) to babysit Toby.
As Henry was arriving a bit late, Violet decided to wait in the bar of the restaurant where she had a brief chat with Cara the bartender (Gabrielle Ryan Spring - Power Book IV: Force TV series etc), Richard (Reed Diamond - Moneyball, Franklin & Bash TV series etc) who was having a blind date, a new piano player Phil (Ed Weeks - The Mindy Project TV series etc) and Connor (Travis Nelson - The Lake TV series etc). When Henry finally arrived and they were seated at their table served by the waiter Matt (Jeffery Self - Search Party TV series etc), Violet started to receive drop messages which bothered her. What started as a series of disturbing prank, it would soon escalate to threatening messages that Violet had to follow while trying to find out the culprit.
So what would happen to Violet and how would the story conclude? You could find out in this movie.
End of Brief Story Line
Well that was really entertaining. When I saw its trailer before, I thought this looked like smartly done thriller and I liked that we were only given teaser rather than full trailer as it gave brief hint that was just enough to make me totally intrigued. Now the film started with some strong scene and continued with the brief introductory of the lead character Violet that was just sufficient to understand her. Subsequently the story moved in steady pace till the frequent Drops began which made me and my wife kept on guessing.
As the story progressed, it became quite thrilling and pretty suspenseful which both of us enjoyed. Ultimately we knew already the real culprit (we probably had seen too many films that we did not have difficulty in identifying), but we did not really expect that ending. It was really great as we did not see the final twist coming and the intensity in the last 10 minutes or so was wonderfully done. I truly liked the work of its director Christopher Landon in here as he managed to keep us interested till the end and still able to give us surprise. I guess it's no wonder considering he had directed entertaining films like Happy Death Day 2U, Freaky and several others.
Meanwhile the cast in general did a good job in their roles. I read that special praise was given on Meghann Fahy by critics on her performance. For us, the main attraction was the interesting and pretty convincing story telling and I thought the use of technology was plus point. There was even a smartly inserted remarks by Richard which likely not many younger generation get, though my wife and I immediately understood its humor. Only thing that we might have missed out was one tiny detail related to the shots. The film had standard duration of 95 minutes which did not have any mid or post end credit scene. There was however a very brief message about domestic violence which probably would be more effective if it was shown before the closing credits, cause likely not many audience were still around and read it.
In the end this was an enjoyable movie for me and my wife. We like the story telling, the suspense and the guessing game, plus the total intensity towards the end. I also felt it to be an intelligent thriller which we generally like. Although it took two weeks for the film to reach Indonesia, I am still grateful it was released here instead of having to wait for it to be available on streaming service more than a month later. So if you like this sort of thriller movie, I am sure you would have a good time seeing it like both of us. Happy watching!
