Send Help - A Fresh & Original Entertaining Movie with Interesting Plot and Intelligent Writing

This movie actually had early screening last week but my wife and I were not available as we were out of town. Yesterday we finally got the chance to see it in one of our favorite cinema. OK, why don't I just get right to it then.

Brief Story Line

Linda Liddle (Rachel McAdams - Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Mean Girls etc) was an intelligent strategist and had been working at a Financial Management company for many years. But due to her weak character, she had trouble fitting in and was looked down by her colleagues, especially Donovan (Xavier Samuel - Blonde, Elvis etc) who took advantage of her works. When Bradley Preston (Dylan O'Brien - Love and Monsters, The Maze Runner trilogy etc) was appointed as new CEO, Linda who was supported by one of the executive Franklin (Dennis Haysbert - No Exit, 24 TV series etc), was hoping to get her promised promotion, though it never materialized.

However, when there was a big merger project in Thailand where Linda's expertise was required, Dylan brought her along together with few executives on a private plane. Unexpectedly the plane crashed with Linda and Dylan the only survivors and they had to survive living in a remote island.

So what would happen to both of them? You could find out in this movie.

End of Brief Story Line

I was intrigued with this movie cause I thought it has an interesting topic where an employee was stuck trying to survive in a remote island with her obnoxious boss. Now I never saw the trailer at all which I thought was a big advantage cause it gave me all the nice surprises and twists when watching the film. It started with the introduction of the characters where we were shown how submissive, low self confidence employee Linda was and the totally awful new boss who did not appreciate her at all. So you can imagine how pleasing it was when we saw the "position" reversed in the island.

As the story progressed, we saw the characters developed nicely and the story became more exciting in the final third where we were guessing how it would end for those two. And got to say we were satisfied with the ending. There were few quite surprising twists which I had a bit of feeling, but amazingly my wife were able to guess correctly from the moments certain scenes were shown. The film could not have been so enjoyable without the support from the two lead stars Rachel McAdams and Dylan O'brien as they were totally convincing in their roles. I also believe the writers Damian Shannon and Mark Smith (Shark Tale, Friday the 13th 2009 etc) should be applauded for their work here.

There was another factor that made interested in seeing this movie, i.e. the name Sam Raimi who was famous for directing some good horrors like The Evil Dead movies, but especially for his wonderful Spider-man trilogy (with Tobey Maguire). And some of his signature horror style was shown here as well with few effective jump scare scenes. Now I was also glad we saw this in a studio with Dolby Atmos sound effect cause they were truly felt during some of the more action-ish scenes.  Critics and audience were equally impressed by this movie and rightfully so as it was original & refreshing.

The special effects were very good too and though it has some computer graphics but they looked realistic enough.  Before I forgot, my wife also complimented the make-up department who managed to make Rachel McAdams looked so believable as such character which I totally agreed. The movie has duration of 115 minutes including closing credits but no mid or post end credit scene. It was pretty long to my opinion as I personally felt there could be moments which could be less detail, but it was not such a big deal as in general it was still an entertaining film. So if you are looking for a movie with interesting and intelligent plot & some dark comedy, supported by awesome performance of the lead cast and wonderful writing & directing, I am sure you would enjoy this one as my wife and I did.

Happy watching!
