Detective Conan: Black Iron Submarine - A Fantastic Detective Conan Movie with Some Strong Emotions Involved

So another Detective Conan movie was released in Indonesian theaters few days ago. Like any other previous films, we definitely want to see this in the cinema even though we knew it would not take long before it is available via online streaming. That is how much we love this series. It's a good thing too that the movie was shown on all cinema chains, so we have more options to choose.  All right, we'll get right to it then.

Brief Story Line

Conan (Minami Takayama), Ai (Megumi Hayashibara) and the Detective Boys went for a trip to see the whales with Sonoko (Naoko Matsui) who owned a hotel on the island. They were also accompanied by Professor Agasa (Kenichi Ogata), Ran (Wakana Yamazaki) and her father Kogoro (Rikiya Koyama).

When they reached the island, Conan somehow got himself into the location of Pacific Buoy where new AI system that could help Interpol was going to be implemented. However, he would soon be caught up in a kidnapping case. But things got further complicated for Conan when the Black Organization got involved and endanger the people he cared.

So how would the story conclude? You could find out in this movie.

End of Brief Story Line

My wife and I had always had fun when we saw a Detective Conan movie and this one certainly did not disappoint. Like in all the previous installment, this movie got all the usual ingredients of over the top action, a closed case mystery (though not the most complicated one like its series but stil scratch our brain, except my wife who was able to guess it correctly again), and some drama. For us personally, this one somehow felt more exciting and better cause it impacted Conan in ways that made us adore him even more.

This time the Detective Boys of Ayumi (Yukiko Iwai), Mitsuhiko (Ikue Otani) and Genta (Wataru Takagi) only have brief screen time, but they still provided us few laughter when they appeared. As usual, Kogoro also gave his comical presence with sometimes his foolish remarks. Ran did show her different side which made my wife admired her a lot. But what amazed me was the fact there were so many other characters from Black Organization who appeared here, including few new ones that we were not familiar with, as we were not too updated on the anime series/comics.

There was a movie titled Detective Conan: The Story of Ai Haibara that my wife and I saw early last month. It was taken from some episodes of the TV series in the past that focused on the Mystery Train arc and had an ending which clearly gave hint of what this movie is all about. Oh, in case you are not aware, Black Iron Submarine is the 26th installment in the Conan movie series which started since 1997. So there has been one movie released every year and next year there would be another one that was given a hint by the end of this film. Oh before you leave, there is a post end credit scene that would give some needed closure on things that did not seem to be cleared earlier. Btw the song during closing credit was nice as well.

The movie has a duration of 110 minutes which did not feel long at all with the intensity especially after the incident that affected Conan. During the whole movie, despite some interruptions from several irresponsible audience who played their mobile phones, we could still enjoy it a lot. There were plenty of time where we were entertained by the humor that never gets old, or the suspense and we also felt Conan's emotion very strongly here which added the element of excitement.

Overall to us, it was another awesome experience of seeing Detective Conan in action once again, with all the strong emotions and the wonderful characters interaction. Those who are fans of the anime would definitely love this one (I read that the movie was the most successful commercially and overtaking The Bride of Halloween). So if you love Conan, you do not want to miss this one. For us, we just cannot wait till 2024 when we can see the next installment.

Mike's movie moments rating: 4 out of 5 stars
