Detective Conan: The Bride of Halloween - Another Fun Conan Movie

When this movie was promoted by certain cinema chains in Indonesia, my wife and I wanted to see it as we are both fans of the manga and anime series it was based on. This movie was finally released few days ago and to our surprise, it was playing in all major cinemas in Indonesia which gave us more options. So yesterday we went ahead and saw this one in the theater not far from our home. Well, I'll get right to it then.

Brief Synopsis

Conan Edogawa (Minami Takanawa) was involved in the case of a serial bomber who tried to attack the wedding ceremony of Detective Miwako Sato (Atsuko Yuya) and Detective Takagi (Wataru Takagi). As Conan dig deeper, he found out that it was related to the past incident involving Sato and the bomb squad.

With time running out as the bomber threatened to launch a major attack, Conan must find out the plan and stop the culprit before a lot of people get hurt.

So how would the story conclude? You can find them all in this movie.

End of Brief Synopsis

Two months ago, I saw another movie titled Detective Conan: Love Story at Police Headquarters in the theater which I originally thought was the latest Detective Conan's film. I found out after watching that it was a TV special covering several episodes focusing on the love story between Sato and Takagi, which would ultimately lead to the plot in this film. So it was actually a good thing for me and my wife having watched that one, since we did not really keep track of the series for a while and that TV special gave us a better perspective.

Normally in Detective Conan movies, the focus was more towards the action than the closing cases or mystery. This one was not that different. There was a mystery but it was not such a complicated one that require the really powerful deduction of Conan/Sinichi. However, for me personally, this one did not have the really fast pace like in previous movies that was a challenge to absorb the whole story. In fact I found this to be easier to understand as the story was simple enough. In addition, the other characters were mostly those whom we were already familiar with.

Aside from Conan, almost the whole gang appeared in this movie, like Ran (Wakana Yamazaki), her father Kogoro (Rikiya Komaya), Professor Agasha (Kenichi Ogata), Ai (Megumi Hayashibara) and the adorable detective boys club. There were also other characters involved, but the one that caught my attention was Rei Furuya (Toru Furuya) whom I knew from Detective Conan: Zero the Enforcer as he was quite important and will have his own spinoff series that would be available for streaming next week.

As usual, when we see Detective Conan movies, my wife and I always loved seeing the mystery solving, the interaction between Conan and the other children, Kogoro's ridiculous behavior (although this time he did not have too much screen time) and also the funny moments that were shown occasionally. It has a duration of 111 minutes including closing credit that was accompanied by a pretty nice original soundtrack song titled Chronostasis sung by Bump of Chicken. And there was a post end credit scene that you do not want to miss.

So if you are fans of Detective Conan, then you either have seen this one or are planning to see it soon. However, it might be very challenging if you have not seen the series or read the manga at all. Since my wife and I are big fans, we would try our best to see Detective Conan movies which amazingly started from 1997 until this 25th installment.

Mike's movie moments rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars
