Brief Story Line
Four years after the events in Halloween Kills, Laurie (Jamie Lee Curtis - Everything Everywhere All at Once, Trading Places etc) was now living with her grand daughter Allyson (Andi Matichak). As recommended by Deputy Hawkins (Will Patton - The Forever Purge etc), Laurie decided to write a memoir of her experience with Michael Myers (James Jude Courtney) who had not appeared during that period.
Meanwhile Allyson who was working as a nurse, got acquainted and became attracted with Corey (Rohan Campbell - The Hardy Boys TV series etc) who actually had a dark past himself. Unfortunately for the people in Haddonfield, their peace was quite short lived and terror began to appear just few days before Halloween.
So how would the story conclude? You can find out in this movie.
End of Brief Story Line
If you have read my previous posts of the Halloween movies, you would know the reason why my wife and I had to see this one in the cinema, as aside from completing our trilogy experience, we were obviously curious on how the story would be completed. Now in term of ending, this might not have been as spectacular as I would have expected, however I actually thought the story was more interesting, especially compared to the second movie which I felt not exciting enough.
The movie's opening scene was pretty wild and I did not see it coming. The good thing was it made the plot a bit different and pretty unique compared to the previous installments. Another thing that I tought was uncommon was the bit of romance and even few scenes that gave lighter mood as opposed to fully dark and gloomy. But the trademark of the brutal, bloody and violent killing were still apparent in here. And this time the Indonesian censorship body did right by classifying it for 21+ instead of 17+ which probably resulted to no scene was cut in the theatrical release.
Since the plot was different, it made the movie did not just focus on the slashing from start to finish. In fact the slashing might not have been as much as audience had anticipated for. However, since the story itself was quite engaging, I was not bored while waiting for the killing spree started. I think the writer/director David Gordon Green (George Washington, Pineapple Express etc) did a better job compared to what he did in Halloween Kills.
Overall, for me and my wife, we were quite satisfied with the end of this trilogy. It was a good enough conclusion for us despite not being well received by critics. Besides, we could still see the usual vicious killings during Halloween with plenty of jump scare scenes that were put to good effect supported by the nice Dolby Surround system in the theater. Plus Jamie Lee Curtis still managed to show her amazing surviving capabilities. So if you are fan of Halloween films, then just go and see this one to find out how it would conclude.
