Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba the Movie: Mugen Train - As Great & Amazing as the Series

I have been aware about this movie for quite some time as it made a lot of headlines, breaking numerous records. When it was finally released in Indonesia, I did not watch it as it was still during the pandemic time. Few days ago though, it was finally available via online streaming on Catchplay+ (without additional fee) and I decided to watch this during the weekend. OK, let's get started now.

Brief Story Line

Set exactly after the end of 1st season, the 3 young Demon Slayers: Tanjiro Kamado (Natsuki Hanae - Digimon Adventure tri. etc), Zenitsu (Hiro Shimono - Attack on Titan Final Season etc) and Inosuke (Yoshitsugu Matsuoka - Sword Art Online The Movie: Ordinal Scale etc) went on board the train for their latest mission. Tanjiro as usual also brought along his demon sister Nezuko (Akari Kitō - The Demon Girl Next Door etc).

They were all given the task to support the Flame Hashira named Rengoku (Satoshi Hino - Gintama etc) to hunt for the demon, later revealed to be Enmu (Daisuke Hirakawa - Itazura Na Kiss etc), the Lower Moon One who had been killing many slayers previously.

And so how would the story conclude? Find them all in this exciting and amazing anime movie.

End of Brief Story Line

As I said above, I was interested in watching this movie due to its fantastic record breaking including becoming the highest grossing film of 2020 (even better than Hollywood movies). So obviously I had to see it for myself to know what the fuss was all about. But before watching it, I completed the whole 1st season first to understand the story better, especially since it was said to be direct sequel to the series. I completed 26 episodes in 1 day which did not take a lot of time because the duration was only around 22-25 minutes including opening & closing credit plus brief post end credit scene on each episode.

After finishing that whole season, I could understand the hype surrounding that movie since the series itself was just amazing. It was filled with lots of suspenseful, emotional, funny and exciting moments. It has got everything that made me love it a lot. Plus it gave me the whole perspective about the story and better appreciation of the characters, as opposed if I went straight to the film without knowing the context.

The movie's main story was really not complicated as it was almost entirely set in or around the train. But what got me totally psyched was the fights scenes. They were absolutely fantastic and that final fight was just incredible. I was literally holding my breath and soooo pumped up when the ultimate stance was shown. And the ending was something that me loved this series even more. I truly admired the heroic deeds the demon slayers did and there was also a truly emotional moment.

During the whole movie which had duration of 117 minutes, I was totally entertained. There were some moments in the early part which were nice but sad at the same time. I also laughed few times especially due to the absurd behavior of Inosuke and Zenitsu, just like what they normally did in the series. The animation was well done with various scenes that looked very realistic (especially the scene of the train moving). Btw, all the voice cast in the film were the same with the series. Oh ya, there was no mid or post end credit scenes but during the closing credit which was accompanied by very nice song, we could see animation of few of the characters.

Overall this is a good quality anime movie and very enjoyable. If you love the series, definitely a must to see this one, especially since the second season (which was said to be released sometime in 2021) would have been in continuation of this film. So if you are fan of anime based on manga series written and illustrated by Koyoharu Gotouge and you love story of heroism, loyalty, people slaying demons and you don't mind strong violence (there was a lot of blood in here), then you should give this a try.

Happy watching!
