Brief Story Line
Ha Dong-soo (Jung Hae-in - Start-Up, D.P TV series etc) was a loner who was kidnapped by a gang of organ traffickers. Luckily, he somehow managed to escape but not before one of his eyes was already taken and transplanted to the body of another person, later on revealed to be Oh Jin-seop (Go Kyung-pyo - 6/45, Love in Contract TV series etc). After a while, Dong-soo realized that he seemed to be connected to Jin-seop and could see through his eyes.
As he tried to understand what was happening, Dong-soo got entangled in the serial killings that have been happening in the city, where the police led by Detective Choi (Kim Roi-ha - Memories of Murder, A Bittersweet Life etc) were investigating. Things got more confusing for Dong-soo when a mysterious woman (Kim Hye-jun - Kingdom TV series, Inspector Koo TV series etc) was following him and seemed to know about his secret.
So what would happen to Dong-soo as he tried to be free from his connection with Jin-seop? You can find them in the series.
End of Brief Story Line
When I started watching this series, I was feeling a bit confused what it was trying to tell. And the dark surroundings with jumping from one part to another that did not seem to have any relations, did not really help me either. Up to a certain point where I was having difficulty in understanding due to lost of concentration, I decided to re-watch some of the early part. And I was glad that I did since I could understand the story better. Subsequently I enjoyed it more as the story was increasingly became more interesting, although sometimes the pace could be really slow.
As the story progressed and the connection between Dong-soo and Jin-seop became more intense, it was a bit more suspenseful. The appearance of the mysterious In-rang also helped to make it more exciting, especially in episode 4 and surprisingly there were more actions which obviously I liked. Oh, the mystery was also something that added the element of suspense, but it could feel like side tracking from the main plot a bit. I also felt that the story development in the end of 5th episode was not really to my liking, although I could understand that it was for the purpose of expanding the plot. This would explain such ending to the series, definitely with the aim to be further explored in second season (should they choose to do so).
Now the first season of the series only consisted of 6 episodes where the duration was not too long, at most it was only 46 minutes including opening and closing credits. There was even one episode that was only a little over half hour. One thing that I thought was very unique was the title of each episode that started with the letter C which I thought was pretty intelligent. Oh btw, I found out that this was based on webtoon of the same title by Shin Dae-sung. I do admire his creativity in making such story. The series was directed by Takashi Miike whose prior works included violent movies like Dead or Alive trilogy, Yakuza Apocalypse, the horror One Missed Call and various other films and TV series. So the violence and darkness felt in here should not come as a surprise.
The cast here generally were OK in their roles. Go Kyung-pyo in particular was quite convincing. There were also some support characters such as the musician Z (Yang Dong-geun - Yaksha: Ruthless Operations etc), Jin-seop's colleague Sun-hee (Jang Hee-ryung - Love Refresh TV series etc), the doctor (Jang Gwang - The Labyrinth TV series etc) and few others. Overall to me this was a dark series with a bit of science fiction element and combined with some psychological thriller as well. It was pretty interesting when involving the connection, but the expansion of the story was not really my favorite, plus the cliffhanger ending was a bit of a letdown too, especially if there is no second season. However, it was still quite exciting and enjoyable if you like this kind of genre.
