Brief Story Line
Four years after the events in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom where dinosaurs were now roaming the world, Owen Grady (Chris Pratt - The Tomorrow War, Passengers etc) and Claire Dearing (Bryce Dallas Howard - Rocketman, Gold etc) were living with Maisie Lockwood (Isabella Sermon) in a secluded area.
Meanwhile Dr. Ellie Sattler (Laura Dern - Cold Pursuit, Downsizing etc) and Dr. Alan Grant (Sam Neill - Peter Rabbit 2, The Hunter etc) were invited by their old friend, Dr. Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum - Thor: Ragnarok, The Grand Budapest Hotel etc) to visit a large chemical company Biosyn. They were met by its CEO, Dr. Lewis Dodgson (Campbell Scott - The Amazing Spider-man, Royal Pains TV series etc) who were trying to give dinosaurs a better place to live while trying to find solutions to major medical problems.
When something happened, Owen and Claire had no choice but to be involved in the latest potential catastrophic event to the world. So how would the story conclude? Find them all in this fun and thrilling action movie.
End of Brief Story Line
Just like in previous movies, dinosaurs were the main attraction of this film where the special effects were absolutely fantastic. It was so breath taking looking at the gigantic dinosaurs which looked so realistic that we felt we were in the real world where actual dinosaurs exist. My wife and I really enjoyed watching them running around and being very close to humans and all. The biggest surprise to me was actually when I saw Dolby Atmos advertisement before the start, as I thought there was no such effect for the movie. So I was totally delighted as it has been a while since I saw movie with such sound effects in Indonesia.
Another thing that definitely entertained both of us were the suspense of seeing the main characters being chased around by those vicious raptors and obviously, the T-Rex and other new type of dinosaurs. And that scene in the middle of the movie was the best for us as we were exhilarated nonstop till it was finished. In fact, we felt that was the best part in the film, beating the finale which somehow did not feel that amazing. It was entertaining yes, but I honestly felt the climax was not truly satisfying, especially after such built up in the middle.
Oh one thing that my wife and I thought could be better was the early part where the pace was too slow. Usually every now and then in a Jurassic films, there would be intense moments. However, we were really excited only when that Malta scene began (my wife literally screamed few times during this time). Perhaps if there were more of those suspenseful moments earlier, I would have been totally satisfied. I think the slow pace were due to the inclusion of those characters from the original Jurassic Park movies. Despite giving the nostalgic feeling and a nice touch, but somehow it felt like taking too much time. The duration of the movie was 147 minutes which did not have any mid or post end credit scenes. It would seem they have no plan at the moment yet for another sequel.
Aside from the cast I mentioned above, there were also other new support cast such as DeWanda Wise (She's Gotta Have It TV series etc) as the pilot Kayla Watts, Mamoudou Athie (Archive 81 TV series etc) as Ramsay Cole the head of communications in Biosyn, Dichen Lachman (Altered Carbon TV series etc) as Santos the dinosaur smugglers. In addition, some of the cast from the previous Jurassic World movies also reprised their roles in a smaller capacity, such as Justice Smith (The Voyeurs etc) as Franklin Webb, Daniella Pineda (Cowboy Bebop TV series etc) as Dr. Zia, Omar Sy (Lupin TV series etc) as Barry. And let's not forget the important character of Dr. Henry Wu (BD Wong - Mr. Robot TV series etc).
Overall to me and my wife, this was an entertaining movie and we had a good time seeing it in the theater with Dolby Atmos sound system. There were moments so suspenseful that we were strapped to our seats, but there were also some time where we were less excited, especially in the early part. The story was definitely not the strongest point especially for those looking for great plot. But it was still satisfying to see the end of this trilogy. So if you are fans of watching dinosaurs terrorizing people with wonderful special effects and awesome sound effects, then you would definitely enjoy this one. As long as you are not very particular with the plot and do not really mind the rather slow pace in the early part, then you should be entertained by this movie.
Mike's movie moments rating: 4 out of 5 stars
PS: We saw some very young children in the theater which was surprising considering it's a 13+ movie. By right, cinemas should have been more firm on the age restriction regulation, but sadly it would seem almost impossible to implement in Indonesia.
