Sightless - Not Bad for a Slow Burn Psychological Thriller with Surprising Plot Twist

I noticed this movie's trailer last week on Netflix and was quite intrigued by it especially with a scene that gave a bit of jump scare. It was actually released few days ago but somehow I forgotten about it and only watch it last night. OK let's get on with it.

Brief Story Line

A young woman named Ellen (Madelaine Petsch - Riverdale TV series etc) was involved in an incident which left her blind and require the assistance from a caretaker named Clayton (Alexander Koch - Under the Dome TV series etc) for transition to new life without her sight.

Ellen moved to an apartment and started to adjust herself with new environment with the help from Clayton. However, she was still troubled by her past memory of the incident and felt someone was trying to attack her. Things further got complicated as she got worried of her neighbor Lana (December Ensminger) seemingly being abused by her husband Russo (Lee Jones).

And what would happen to Ellen who became paranoid with no one including Detective Bryce (Jarrod Crawford) believing her? Find them all in this movie.

End of Brief Story Line

Like any other psychological thriller, this one used the quite standard formula of showing something thrilling in the beginning and then move in a slow pace towards the climax. This one was quite OK in building the story since it combined with one or two jump scare scenes to kind of giving a "wake up call" in case we were bored.

Now what I liked about this film was the surprising twist which totally changed my view of the whole thing. It was pretty smart in doing so and made me thrilled and intrigued by it. However, the ending/conclusion to my personal opinion was not too satisfying. There was one particular specifics that I thought a bit illogical (usually losing one sense would enhance other senses but in here such thing did not happen).

Aside from that part, I actually did enjoy the movie though not as much as I would have hoped for. There were quite a number of people appeared in here, but only two main characters. I liked Madelaine Petsch performance as she looked truly convincing as a blind person. Btw, I did not recognize her at first because she looked mature compared to her role as high school girl in Riverdale. The other person was Alexander Koch whom I was not familiar with but he was generally OK.

The other thing that I quite liked was the sound editing (especially effective during jump scare) and nice music as well. The movie's duration was a little below 1.5 hours which felt just perfect. It has a brief scene after the closing credit if you are interested to wait and see.

Overall this movie was not bad. It has one good plot twist even if the rest were quite predictable. If you are interested in a bit of slow burn psychological thriller but not too heavy, then this could be a nice option. However do not expect this to be a totally brilliant movie of such genre as it is not up to the calibre yet.

Mike's movie moments rating: 3 out of 5 stars

  1. In actuality, losing a sense does not make the others stronger. It does force people to pay more attention to the ones which work.
