Another night of watching the premiere of a new movie in theater awaited my wife and I last night. As the time was a little bit earlier than usual (6.45PM), I had to leave the office quite on time. A funny thing actually happened while we were waiting in the cinema for the start of the movie, as a couple was like choosing the best place to sit. We were both amazed at this "scene" coz it was not the first time we saw this. In fact we also heard that other person had the bad experience of having to politely tell the persons sitting in their seats but instead of getting the apology, they were like complaining for being asked to move. And worst part was they even chose to sit at other places (not their own seats). Anyway, perhaps security in cinemas need to be more proactive to avoid such cases (including to avoid the live streaming from theater that happened during the screening of the most successful Indonesian movies till date, Warkop DKI Reborn: Jangkrik Boss part 1).
Brief Story Line
For the past 18 years, the storks who used to deliver babies to the doorstep of people requesting for babies, have stopped their services and instead delivering packages for Cornerstone. The reason for such change was due to the incident happened 18 years ago involving a stork named Jasper (voiced by Danny Trejo - Con Air, Desperado, Machete etc) and the baby which was never delivered. The storks decided to bring the baby girl up and named her Tulip. Tulip (voiced by Katie Crown) became a very cheerful and helpful person but seemingly having no real clue of what her best role was for Cornerstone. She was able to invent stuffs that could be useful but other than that, she was more involved in creating havoc.
Junior (voiced by Andy Samberg - Hotel Transylvania, Brooklyn Nine-Nine TV series etc) was a hot shot stork who was able to deliver packages on time everytime and was going to be the named the next boss by the current boss Hunter (voiced by Kelsey Grammer - X-Men: The Last Stand, Cheers & Frasiers TV series etc). Hunter was a very vicious CEO who was only caring about getting profits and noticed that their profit always went down whenever Tulip tried to help. So Junior's first task to be a boss was to fire Tulip and let her out of Cornerstone. However, Junior was unable to really fire her and instead decided (against his better judgment) to appoint Tulip becoming "head" of mailing department. Though there was no real work since nobody ever send letters requesting babies anymore to Cornerstone.
Meanwhile, a boy named Nate (Anton Starkman) was feeling lonely since his father Henry (voiced by Ty Burrel - Modern Family TV series) and mother Sarah (Jennifer Aniston - Friends TV series) were too busy with their work as real estate agent. He requested a younger brother to accompany him but his parents felt that 1 boy was already enough. Nate accidentally found an old brochure of baby delivery by Storks and sent a letter to Cornerstone. The letter would reach the mail room and Tulip was going to send it to another department which would make her leave the "mailing room". Junior was not going to let Tulip back to Cornerstone so he immediately went to the place which happened to be the old baby factory out of operation. Unfortunately for Junior, Tulip accidentally put the letter into the baby making machine and it produced a very cute and adorable baby girl.
Feeling desperate, Junior who tried to stop the production had his right wing broken and could not fly. He decided to deliver the baby together with Tulip using her aircraft invented to search for her parents. So Junior, Tulip and the baby would embark on an adventurous journey to send the baby to Nate's family where they would face so many obstacles including fending off the chase by wolves led by Alpha (Keegan-Michael Key) and Beta (Jordan Peele) and also the sneaky Pigeon Toady (Stephen Kramer Glickman).
Can Junior and Tulip send the baby safely to the intended location? What would happen to Nate and his family relating to Nate's request for a baby brother & also their relationship? Would Pigeon Toady be able to disrupt Junior and Tulip's plan? Find them all in this cute and adorable movie.
End of Brief Story Line
Watching this movie in the earlier parts, I could not help to feel that the funny scenes were a little bit forced, but as the movie continues, the funny scenes becoming more and more fluid. The funny moments became more natural. And since the baby girl was "produced", the movie became much more alive. I think the star of the movie was really the baby. The animation of this baby was soooo cute and adorable that you would really want to hug and play with the baby.
You would also be enjoying the very colorful scenes and the funny moments during the chase by the wolves. Those were some of the most enjoyable moments. But the moment that I laughed the hardest was during the scene involving penguins (and the fork). It was priceless!
I also loved that the trailer shown many times in the theaters was only showing some brief introduction about Storks and baby making machine. This helped us to be enjoying the movie without knowing there were so many plots inside this one. For parents who want to bring their children to watch this, I believe they would be able to enjoy it. For teenagers & adults, this movie would also be enjoyable to watch. However, please do not expect logic or the making sense of the story of Storks delivering babies. If you can only enjoy movie when logic is very much a great factor, then I do not think this movie is right for you. If you are looking for some fun and good laughter, then you can definitely watch this one!
By the way, this movie was produced by Warner Bros Animation Group (WAG) which also produced The Lego Movie. Hence, it was not a surprise to see there was a short funny animated Lego movie of a Chinese Kung Fu Master and a chicken before the start of the movie. I guess WAG also wanted to follow the success of such pattern used by Disney, Pixar and even Illuminati (remember those cute minions in The Secret Life of Pets ?). It did give us a nice thing to enjoy before the start of the actual movie. So when you already bought the tickets for this film, please make sure you are not late to be able to watch this short fun movie.
Happy watching!
