Brief Story Line
Min-su (Yoo Yeon-seok - Hospital Playlist TV series, The Interest of Love TV series etc) had been in a relationship with his girlfriend Seong Gyeong (Jung In-sun - My Secret Terrius TV series, Psychopath Diary TV series etc) for few years and wanted to get married with her. Unfortunately though, Min-su just found out that her fiancee was allergic to dogs, while he had a dog named Runni who had accompanied him through the years even during his most difficult times.
Min-su then decided to pass Runnie for adoption and he sought the help from his cousin Jin-guk (Cha Tae-hyun - My Sassy Girlfriend, Hello Ghost etc) to look for people who would be willing to do so. And thus began their adventure in search to find the perfect place for Runni.
So how would the story conclude? You can find out in this movie.
End of Brief Story Line
As I said above, I was interested in something light and obviously a story of two men trying to look for new home for a dog was always going to be an easy choice. And having these two actors portraying two different characters were great too. Cha Tae-hyun as usual provided some comedic moment just by showing his expressions, meanwhile Yeon-seok was perfect as the melancholy man who really loved his dog and was in dilemmatic position to pass him up for adoption.
Despite having some humorous scenes in the earlier part, especially when they met with the various people who wanted to adopt Runnie, but as the story progressed the movie actually grew slightly heavier. We could see how challenging it was to take care of dogs regardless of how sweet they were and well intended of the people. Which is why I thought that the movie was more like a drama with touches of comedy rather than a comedy film since the dramatic side was given more focus. However, the cuteness of the dogs always gave audience delight after some of those heavier moments.
Now aside from those two lead stars, the movie was filled with plenty of cameo appearances of actors and actresses whom my wife immediately recognized. It was no wonder as she loved watching South Korean dramas and would know or had seen them before. But for me who did not have such knowledge, they just passed by as side characters and might not have the best appreciation as she did. Nevertheless, even though they only had brief screen time, they did leave some good impression to us. I better leave their names so you could see for yourself.
The movie had a quite long duration of 114 minutes which included the closing credits. It did not have any mid or post end credit scene at all, but it did show the original title in Korean, Meongmongi. One fun fact, the movie's title in Indonesia is My Puppy but its English title was My Heart Puppy. The background music was something that I thought was greatly done here, in particular those instrumental piano during the sentimental moments. Of course this movie would have some emotional scenes and it did have impacts on my wife. Btw, the film was written and directed by Kim Joo-hwan whose prior experience including directing The Divine Fury, Midnight Runners and few others.
