When I heard about the third movie in this franchise, I was pretty excited. I loved the action and comedy even if the movies were not liked by critics. But since it premiered on the day that I was having a special screening of the highly rated film, my wife and I only got the chance to see it yesterday. All right, I shall go on with it now.
Brief Story Line
A couple of Miami Detectives Mike Lowrey (Will Smith - Spies in Disguise, Aladdin live version etc) & his partner Marcus Burnett (Martin Lawrence - Big Momma's House, Martin TV series etc) had been working for 25 years where Marcus already thinking of retiring and live peacefully with his family. Meanwhile the Miami PD also had a new elite unit called AMMO that was led by Rita (Paola Núñez) and consisted of a fresher team of young and intelligent police such as Kelly (Vanessa Hudgens - High School Musical, Dog Days etc), Rafe (Charles Melton - Riverdale TV series etc) and Dorn (Alexander Ludwig - Vikings TV series etc).
But when the past finally caught up with Mike, he had to face new danger and investigate the case which involved a mysterious killer named Armando (Jacob Scipio) & his ruthless mother Isabel (Kate del Castillo). Despite the objection from captain Conrad (Joe Pantoliano - The Fugitive, The Sopranos TV series etc), Mike still worked on his own to solve the case.
So what would happen to Mike and Marcus? Find them all in this exciting action movie.

End of Brief Story Line
I had seen the first two Bad Boys movie so many years back and remember that I had a great time watching both, so it should not be a surprise that I also like this third movie. The successful formula from the previous 2 movies where Mike would be showing off his capabilities and Marcus with his comedic remarks combined with some over the top action scenes made this film still as exciting as before. This time though, the story felt a bit better with some drama which seemed to be realistic as the two charming detectives entering the middle age.
Despite changing its director from Michael Bay on the first 2 movies to Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, the action part did not disappoint. Some car chase sequence (and motorcycle) were really amazing. The major finale scenes were awesome as well as it showed a real grand action scenes. I was totally satisfied with them, especially since I saw this in a theater with Dolby Atmos system where the sound effects were perfect for this kind of movie. In addition, there were quite a lot of background songs which seemed fitting to the various scenes and felt enhanced by the sound system.
I mentioned above that the story was better this time and it was well received by critics as proven by the quite high ratings. Audiences also appreciated this one (although we also enjoyed the other movies, even though critics were not so kind before). For a little over 2 hours, my wife and I were totally entertained by this film. The humor, drama, action seemed to fill our thirst for a good old fashioned action movie which did not rely solely on CGI. Aside from some hilarious scenes where we laughed out loud, there were even some emotional scenes plus some surprising twists. One of them was a real shock to me, though my wife was able to guess it earlier (sometimes I think she is like a movie's clairvoyant. LOL).
As usual, the main attraction of Bad Boys movies were the dynamic between Will Smith and Martin Lawrence. The additional new characters also seemed to be interesting as they provided more colour. And I do not know why but there was a feeling that this franchise might be successfully revived like the Fast and Furious series and spawned into additional sequels (maybe spinoffs). But that's just my feeling. Btw, this film had a brief mid end credit scene that was fun, but no post end credit scene. Oh before I forgot, this was categorized for 17+ and it was R Rated in the US, so it's definitely not suitable for kids, especially with some heavy violence not to mention harsh language.
Overall this was a fun action movie with a nice enough story. Those who had not seen the first 2 movies better watch those first before seeing this one, just to appreciate and familiarize with the 2 main characters plus their captain who had appeared in all the movies. But if you do not have the chance to see them, I believe you could still understand the story easily. So if you are fan of action films, this one certainly a must-see.
Bad Boys, bad boys, whatcha gonna do? Whatcha gonna do when they come for you...
Mike's movie moments rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars
