On Wednesday, there were actually few other movies that premiered together with a major Hollywood movie that I have written earlier First Man, and one of them was this film that was categorized as zombie comedy movie. I thought I wanted to give this one a try after seeing a serious drama movie. Since the film did not play in the largest cinema chain in Indonesia, options were quite limited. But it did play in 1 of the cinema not far from my office. Anyway, let's get down to what the movie was all about.
Brief Story Line
Desmond (Brenton Thwaites - Pirates of the Caribbean: Salazar's Revenge, The Giver etc) was a young man who worked at a weapons factory named Ammotech in the accounting department under Mr. Nusbaum (Zachary Levi - Chuck TV series, Thor: the Dark World etc). His best friend at work was Mourad (Karan Soni - the funny taxi driver in Deadpool 2) and he also had childhood friend Samantha (Jane Levy - Monster Trucks, Suburgatory TV series etc).
Everything seemed to be just fine for Desmond who was not a serious worker and spent most of his time at office doing personal stuff, until one of Ammotech product, an energy drink somehow turned his coworkers into zombie-like persons who could not stop killing other workers. Together with Samantha, Mourad and another person from accounting department Lentworth (Kurt Fuller - Scary Movie, Psych TV series etc), they had to face all those people and survive from the attacks of their coworkers.
So could they survive it? Find them all in this senseless fun "zombie" comedy movie.
End of Brief Story Line
Yes, this movie was really just a senseless "zombie" comedy movie. The reason why I quote unquote the word zombie was due to the fact they did not seem to be like the old-fashioned zombie (or the undeads), since these people seemed to just became violent and they did not carry virus that would make other people bitten/scratched became zombie as well. But they did seemed a lot like them due to their violence and tendencies to attack the normal people.
The early part of the movie, before the drinks affected those people were showing off the usual corporate situation where slackers (people like Desmond) were trying their best to avoid being engaged in real work as much as possible while doing personal stuff. I am sure audience who are currently or previously employees of major corporate, knew this kind of people (heck you might be one of them too). Desmond's own personal rules were just fun to see and if it could not make you laughed, at least it would make you chuckle.
What surprised me was actually for this kind of movie (which seemed obvious having low budget) was pretty awesome in term of the makeup effects and some of the special effects of the gunshots were very realistic. The fight scenes were pretty good as well, with Brenton Thwaites and Jane Levy showing off some good moves. Karan Soni was funny just like he was in Deadpool. And even Zachary Levi whom I did not recognized and was surprised to see his name in the credit scene was quite amusing. Btw, there was no post or end credit scene. Oh there was 1 quite big name i.e Gregg Henry whom I frequently saw in various movies like Jason Bourne or TV series such as Black Lightning and so on playing the role of Ammotech owner Mr. Gantt.
However, the explosion effects were not really good and seemed too obvious as computerized. But other than that, the rest were decent enough. Overall this was a movie just for fun. There was no hidden moral message, no major plot. Just pure amusement to us who do not want to think and want to see some office humor, combined with those "zombies" survival story. Personally I am quite OK with the movie for entertainment, although if anybody asked me again about this movie in the next few months, I might not remember it already as it did not give me too much impression. Btw, some of the jokes might seem racist, so be warned that if you are not fan of those, you might felt this not suitable.
So if you are fans of this kind of movie, then you can give this a try. Otherwise, even if you skip it, you won't regret it. The choice is yours.
