Christopher Robin - An Adorable Adaptation of Pooh & Friends and A Beautiful Friendship Movie

After playing in the US cinemas for quite some time, finally this movie played in Indonesia. My wife who adored Winnie the Pooh had been eyeing to see this movie, so when it finally premiered yesterday together with another action movie, we opted to see this one first. Let's see if this movie really lived up to our expectation.

Brief Story Line

Young Christopher Robin had to leave his best friends from Hundred Acre Woods that include Winnie the Pooh & Tigger (both voiced by Jim Cummings), Piglet (Nick Mohammed), Eeyore (Brad Garret - Everybody Loves Raymond TV series etc) and the rest of the gang, for boarding school. Growing up in the "real world" made the adult Christopher (Ewan McGregor - Beauty and the Beast, Star Wars prequel trilogy etc) changed and forgot about his childhood friends. Working at Winslow Luggage under his boss Giles (Mark Gatiss - Our Kind of TraitorSherlock TV series etc) certainly did not help as it made him a bit depressed and even distanced himself with his wife Evelyn (Hayley Atwell - Captain America: The First Avenger, Agent Carter TV series etc) and his young daughter Madeline (Bronte Carmichael).

When Giles gave instruction to Christopher to work on the weekend and unable to accompany his family for holiday, Christopher had no choice but to comply. But in doing so, he somehow met with his childhood best friend Winnie the Pooh that could jeopardize his work and adult life.

So what would happen to Christopher Robin and his friends? Find them all in this adorable cute family movie.

End of Brief Story Line

Well this movie really satisfied me in term of seeing all the adorable cartoon characters came to life. The special effects of creating them were very good and they were all realistic. You could see example of this during the scene when Christopher Robin hugged Winnie the Pooh, which was really lifelike. What made them so unbelievably fun to see and brought so much memories to my wife (who could not stop her tears when she saw those characters first time), was the voice of Jim Cummings who also voiced Winnie the Pooh in the cartoon series which my wife loved to watch.

Aside from those lovely and adorable characters, I actually found that the story was very light and a bit predictable. Not that I am complaining since the movie was supposed to be a family friend for all ages anyway. If the story was too complicated, it would not be fun for the kids. The plot was easy to understand and it also gave a moral message, especially to the parents out there about the priorities of life. It was a beautiful friendship movie as well.

The movie had a lot of nice & funny moments (especially involving Pooh's awkwardness & clumsiness that was very adorable). Since the movie was about Christopher Robin, obviously the story would focus on him and his friendship with Winnie the Pooh. Which meant that the rest of Pooh's friends did not share too much screen time as Pooh did (though to be fair, Pooh had always been my wife's most favorite character anyway). We did get to see the whole gang together at later stages but fans of the series might prefer to have them sharing most of the screen time.

In addition to the funny moments, this kind of movie would definitely have some touching moments. And I thought it had quite abundant of them. It had a beautiful ending. It also had few songs in it, including the soundtrack of the series which I did not noticed at first until my wife told me. Ewan McGregor I thought suit the character of adult Christopher Robin quite nicely. No need to say about Jim Cummings as I thought he was really good in portraying both Pooh and Tigger. Eeyore's depressing comments were always fun to hear. While Piglet somehow to me did not give too much impression (personally I thought the voice was not childlike enough). Oh there was a mid end credit scene which was quite funny in case you are wondering.

My wife and I did have a lot of fun seeing this movie. We enjoyed it and I also think this one would be a good experience for whole family. It is enjoyable for adults as well to reminiscence about the time watching those funny characters from Hundred Acre Wood and certainly brought a lot of nostalgic feeling as well. So if you love Winnie the Pooh, then I think you would be happy to see this one. But if you are fanatic fans of the series and hoping the focus to be on all characters, then perhaps it may not fully satisfy you. The choice is yours.

Happy watching!
