Get A Job - College Graduates Facing Their Biggest Test of Adulthood and Real Life

While I was waiting to see the newest major Hollywood movie playing in theaters on Saturday night, ie. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, I had to kill sometime off and decided to watch this film which seemed interesting enough. The premise was about the young generation's struggle on the real life after college, which kind of represent the current actual condition in working environment. So let's continue with a more detail information on the movie.

Brief Story Line

Story started with the narration by Will Davis (Miles Teller - Whiplash, Divergent, Fantastic Four 2015 version, etc) about the fact his generation were awarded for anything they achieved or completed, even if that was not the best. It continued to the scene where Will and his girlfriend Jill (Anna Kendricks - Pitch Perfect 1 & 2, Trolls, The Accountant etc) were having lunch with Will's father Roger (Bryan Cranston - Saving Private Ryan, Argo, Breaking Bad TV series and many more) and mother, celebrating Will and Jill's start of working life after college.

It was also portrayed that Will was still enjoying slacking around and staying in a place like sorority house with his 3 college room mates: Luke (Brandon T. Jackson - Percy Jackson dwilogy, Big Mommas: Like Father, Like Son etc), Charlie (Nicholas Braun - Sky High, How to be Single etc) and Ethan (Christopher Mintz-Plasse - Kick-Ass 1 & 2, Fright Night etc). Luke was starting to work in a stock market investment firm, while Charlie started to work as a chemistry teacher in a junior high school. However Ethan was still trying to ensure the apps he created "IheartU" to be getting huge investment deal and he could own a major startup company.

Things started to get difficult for the four of them, when they had to deal with the imperfect adulthood life they had pictured before. Will was fired even before he started, while Luke apparently join as a very low level staff with task of getting coffee or food for his seniors. Even Charlie realized it was not so easy to find investor. Worst still yet to happen when Roger was fired from his work after working for 30 years in 1 company and making Will had no choice but to step up and look for a proper new job. And with his talent in video making especially since he had made lots of videos in youtube during his college years, he was able to convince an employment placement firm to hire him. However work there was not as what he expected and it would force him to grow up and take some grown up decision.

So can Will survive working in such environment? Can his father got another job as it made him lost his identity for not working? And also can Will's friends achieve whatever they dreamed of when they were still in college? You can find them out if you complete watching the story.

End of Brief Story Line

Hmmm, how do you rate this kind of movie? I was actually pretty enjoying the movie at the beginning. It has an aura of very light, no brainer movie with adult/vulgar jokes and brief sexuality moments such as similar movies in the past (National Lampoon series came to mind). However, the story became a little bit heavier as it continued and made the movie seemed lost grasp of what it was trying to tell. Not sure if I am making any sense, but what I am trying to say here is that it became only half crazy/vulgar movie and half serious. Perhaps if they just continue with the light stuffs it would be more enjoyable, or if they want to make it more serious (as they did with the moral message they tried to provide towards the end of the movie), then it would probably be a better idea if they did not make it so light in the beginning.

However, I have to say that those light humor were quite OK and enjoyable especially when you just want to have quick laughs without over thinking. Being a person working in corporate, I can also relate to the situation they are facing with the younger generation nowadays. The situation faced by Will's father of fired after working for so many years was also quite believable.

I personally feel that Miles Teller actually gave good performance in this movie. Ryan Cranston also did a good job portraying a loving father with his own problem. There was also notable character such as Fernando the janitor (Jorge Garcia - Lost TV series), Fernando the accountant (Greg Germann - Ally McBeal TV series) and of course Will's colleague Tanya (Allison Brie - Community TV series).

Bottom line is, if you are having some time and you want to see some light humor combined with some serious matters here and there, I think you can enjoy this. But if you are not a fan of vulgar jokes with nudity scene, then you would not be liking this one.

Happy watching!
