Jurassic World: Rebirth - Another Entertaining New Installment on the Jurassic Park Movie Series

As major fans of the Jurassic movies, my wife and I definitely would not want to miss seeing this in the cinema. We decided to see it in our favorite studio which almost never disappoint me with its Dolby Atmos sound system yesterday. OK, let's just get started.

Brief Story Line

As the dinosaurs were having trouble adjusting in the current climate and started dying, most of them now living in islands across the Equator prohibited for visit by the governments due to its danger. Martin Krebs (Rupert Friend - A Simple Favor, Anatomy of a Scandal mini series etc) who worked for a large pharmaceutical company tried to recruit former covert operation specialist Zora Bennet (Scarlett Johansson - Transformers OneThe Jungle Book live version etc) to acquire samples from three largest dinosaurs for creating medicines. Though reluctant at first, Zora finally agreed to the assignment and were later joined by paleontologist Dr. Henry Loomis (Jonathan Bailey - Wicked, Bridgerton TV series etc), her former army friend & boat owner Duncan Kincaid (Mahershala Ali - Leave the World BehindMarvel's Luke Cage TV series etc) and few crew members.

Meanwhile Reuben (Manuel Garcia-rulfo - Lincoln Lawyer TV series, 6 Underground etc) along with his daughters, the young Isabella (Audrina Miranda), teenage Teresa (Luna Blaise - Manifest TV series etc) & her boyfriend Xavier (David Iacono - Fear Street: Prom Queen etc) were sailing across the ocean not far from the location that Zora's team were heading. Due to some reasons, Reuben's family would be caught up in the dangerous mission led by Zora.

So how would the story conclude? You could find out in this movie.

End of Brief Story Line

Just like in previous Jurassic movies, this film relied heavily on the existence of large dinosaurs. However, the story now focused on a restricted location similar to the original Jurassic Park movies which was why the story seemed to be less complicated. For a movie about these creatures, it certainly did not disappoint in term of providing us various kind of dinosaurs that were so life-like that they totally amazed us. My wife and I agreed that the special effects were just awesome and still greatly done. It should not come as a surprise as they were created by Industrial Light Magic (ILM) just like in all previous installments.

The story though was not something extraordinary while the characters were OK, They were not the kind who would captivate us with their deep background story. Their interaction was pretty decent, although I got to admit that the first half hour or so was too long for introduction and I could not wait for it to get to the exciting stuff. At first I was a bit confused on the appearance of Reuben's family, but I could understand it was to provide additional dramatic and suspenseful impact (who would not be worried when children were in danger).

The movie was directed by Gareth Edwards whose works included The Creator, Godzilla 2014 version and few others which would explain his seamless effort in doing sci-fi & creature film like this. It was written by David Koeppe who also wrote Jurassic Park & its sequel, War of the Worlds and plenty of box office hits. The cast were completely different from the previous Jurassic World trilogy. Not sure yet whether this is going to be the start of a new trilogy cause the ending did not provide any hint (there was no mid or post end credit scene at all). In addition to the names I mentioned above, there was also appearance of Ed Skrein (Rebel MoonAlita: Battle Angel etc), Bechir Silvain (Diarra From Detroit TV series etc) and Philippine Velge (Station Eleven mini series etc) as Zora's crew members Bobby, LeClerc & Nina respectively.

For me and my wife, this movie was just as expected. It provided lots of intense and suspenseful moments (not sure how many times my wife screamed during those scenes, & even the guy sitting next to me seemed to be shocked few times as well). Both of us enjoyed seeing the great dinosaurs shown on the large screen of the studio and the sound effects were just brilliant, adding entertainment value. It also had few lighter moments that provided some laughter for audience. And although the ending was a bit predictable, it was something that we had no objection.

In the end, this was something that should please fans of Jurassic Park. But more critical audience might find this to be just another movie in the series that did not provide something fresh except new characters and some unique dinosaurs in addition to the usual ones we were so familiar with. General audience though seem to embrace it as its box office performance was very well in its first few days of release, which was good for the producers considering its large budget said to be around USD 180 million. So if you are like us who just want to have fun for 2 hours+ seeing dinosaurs come to life, then you would not be disappointed. Just reminder that it's rated PG-13 and not suitable for underage kids as few scenes might be a bit disturbing.

Mike's movie moments rating: 4 out of 5 stars
