Blacklight - Not the Most Impressive Liam Neeson's Movie

So there's another Liam Neeson movie playing in theater today and since my wife and I are fans of him, we could not pass on to see this latest film. Well what's it all about? Let us find out now, shall we?

Brief Story Line

Travis (Liam Neeson - The MarksmanThe Commuter etc) was a fixer for the FBI directly under the director Gabe Robinson (Aidan Quinn - Elementary TV series, Desperately Seeking Susan etc). After more than 20 years working dangerously, Travis wanted to spend more time with his daughter Amanda (Claire van der Boom) and grand daughter Natalie (Gabriella Sengos).

However, Gabe asked Travis to complete one last assignment which was to bring home an unsteady agent Dusty Crane (Taylor John Smith - The Outpost, Shadow in the Cloud etc). Meanwhile a journalist named Mira Jones (Emmy Raver-Lampman - The Umbrella Academy TV series etc) suspected foul play on the death of a politician and was caught in the middle of something which could threaten her life.

So how would the story conclude? Find them all in this action thriller movie.

End of Brief Story Line

This movie started out with something that excite us. The introduction to Liam Neeson's character Travis, the fixer for the FBI was quite OK as it managed to capture the essence of his job. I actually thought Travis is a likable character especially when he interacted with his grand daughter. This was quite refreshing to see as opposed to his usual cool & brooding appearance. However, after some time, the movie became very predictable as my wife and I were able to see the bad guy and how it would proceed, but we thought as long as we get to see Neeson in action, it should be find for us.

Sadly though, probably because of his age, we did not get to see a lot of his action. And through out this whole movie, there were indeed some action sequence (mostly were pretty interesting car chases) but not as many as we would have liked. The climax fight scene was the highlight which was quite good for me. The thing that disappoint me was the ending which felt a bit too simple and did not really make sense.

For an action thriller movie, this one was pretty standard. It did not have anything that really stand out and was not one of the most memorable Neeson's movie. The film was directed by Mark Williams (prior works included A Family Man and Honest Thief) who also wrote the film with Nick May. Williams's writing credits are pretty vast including Copshop and that amazing series Ozark. Btw, Liam Neeson and Aidan Quinn had worked together in few films previously, such as Unknown, Michael Collins and The Mission

Overall this was an OK action thriller movie. Nothing extraordinary or spectacular. It did not make too much impression to us and probably would be another movie that just pass by our lives. Critics were not happy with it either though audience looked to be a bit more forgiving. So if you are fans of Liam Neeson's movies and do not mind standard predictable story then you might still enjoy this one.
