Thor:Ragnarok - The 3rd and Most Fun Thor Movie

Today with no urgent work matter to attend to, I purposely take leave from my office just to see this movie (besides I still got few more balance which if not taken would be expired). My wife and I went out since 9 AM to two locations before we reached our destination at Gandaria City. Originally we wanted to see in IMAX but since it was in 3D, we were worried about being tired wearing the 3D glasses. The show started at 1PM in a Dolby Atmos theater. Well let us get on with the movie now.

Brief Story Line

Thor (Chris Hemsworth - Blackhat, Rush etc) kept on getting dreams of his home Asgard being destroyed by powerful Sutrur. After finishing one of his tasks, Thor returned home and met again with his brother Loki (Tom Hiddleston - KONG: Skull Island, Crimson Peak etc) whom he thought was dead in the previous movie. Both were later informed by their father Odin (Anthony Hopkins - Silence of the Lamb and it's sequels, etc) of the imminent threat from the Goddess of death Hela (Cate Blanchett - Elizabeth, The Lord of the Rings trilogy, The Aviator etc).

After fighting with Hela, Thor fell to the planet Sakaar and was captured by a bounty Hunter called Scraper 142 (Tessa Thompson - Westworld TV series etc) and sold to Sakaar ruler, Grandmaster (Jeff Goldblum - Jurassic Park, Independence Day etc). The only way for him to be released was to win in the gladiators tournament against the previous winner, none other than the Incredible Hulk (Mark Ruffalo - The Kids Are All Right, Now You See Me and its sequel etc).

Meanwhile, Hela wanted to rule the whole 9 worlds through Asgard. With the help from Skurge (Karl Urban - Star Trek new version trilogy, Dredd etc), Hela would wreak havoc in Asgard in order to reach her goal. So could Thor win the Gladiator fight and go back to Asgard? How could Hulk be working for the Grandmaster? And where was Heimdall (Idris Elba - The Jungle BookThe Dark Tower etc) all along? Find them all in this fun entertaining superhero movie.

End of Brief Story Line

After seeing this movie, I felt very satisfied since the movie certainly lived up to the hype it created for the past few weeks. The trailer to the movie already hinted a fight between Thor and Hulk and it was really great to see these 2 very strong superheroes fight against each other in a Gladiator "ring" (who would not be excited with that, right?). But the movie was not focusing only on these 2 big guys, as it had also the various characters from Thor's comics, such as Hela, Loki, Heimdall and others. After all, this is a Thor movie and not the Avengers. This is why I think it is more like the third installment of Thor movie, unlike  Captain America: Civil War which did not feel like Captain America but rather like the Avengers movie.

As another one of Marvel comic book adaptation I find that the movie now focusing to be a light superhero movie. In the previous 2 Thor movies, I felt that it was not filled with humor, but this one really have tons of them. The funny parts revolved around Hulk (being a big guy but less intelligent than Bruce Banner), or Loki's behaviours, even Thor was a bit more comical here (like in the beginning part when he was talking to Sutrur). Although there were a lot of funny stuff, I still think that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 was the funniest.

For a movie with hefty budget, the movie really satisfied us in term of its special effects. CGI was very smoothly done and did not give the impression of computer created. The rather colorful presentation at various scenes were nice to see. The sound effects were amazing, with the song that was played during the climax scene of Thor fighting was very loud but fit the scene. Of course I need not mention again the enjoyment of having Dolby Atmos sound system in the theater. I also noticed that there did not seemed to be a lot of scenes which would be fantastic in 3D, so I could be wrong, but I think there might not be a need to see in 3D (it was converted anyway).

As usual for a Marvel movie, do not leave the seats for there were 2 end credit scenes here, although I personally felt that the final one was not really that worth to wait. Oh 1 thing that I noticed was surprising was this movie having few scenes which seemed brutal (though without blood but still represented major killings). During the whole movie, my wife and I were rather strapped to our seats, even she was able to hold on from going to the restroom despite movie's duration more than 2 hours. I personally felt that the movie was all around fun but the climax part was really my favorite as it was amazingly done! My only dissatisfaction was when 1 of my favorite Marvel's character was given few scenes but it felt really unnecessary and a bit forced.

Overall, this was a fun, enjoyable, entertaining with occasional funny moments and a crazy wonderfully crafted climax scene. Please watch this as soon as possible so you can discuss or chat with your friends or families on your most favorite scenes. Marvel trully did it again!
