Bounty Hunters - A Korean-Chinese Comedy Action Movie

When I got a sudden 1 day assignment to go to Singapore last Friday, I asked my wife whether she wanted to join me and we could go for a weekend getaway trip there. My wife was a big fan of Singapore and after thinking for a while, she finally decided to go, even though the departing time was at 6 AM which meant that we have to get up like 3AM in the morning to reach airport. This was due to the fact that I had to have a meeting at 10AM and the earliest plane would be Garuda which flew at that hour. As usual, I would definitely enjoy the inflight entertainment from them. There were so many options that I could chose from, but mostly when I can choose, I would pick Asian movies rather than Hollywood produced, since Asian movies were more difficult to see in Indonesia compared to the Western movies. Anyway, there were more than 1 that I can see, but I chose this as it was not too long and the lead roles were played by famous actors & actress. So what's the movie all about? Let's continue, shall we.

Brief Story Line

This movie started with the scene of a bomb exploding in a quite famous hotel in South Korea. Then the scene moved to a different country where a famous fighting star was having a press conference in a hotel. Two body guards for hire, led by the crazy, smart and claimed to have photographic memory named Yo (Wallace Chung - Meet Miss Anxiety, Royal Tramp TV series etc) and accompanied by Li San (Lee Min-ho - Gangnam Blues, Boys Over Flowers TV series etc) who was very good in martial arts were the protector of this star. However, due to some mixed up, they were both fired from their job, but they soon got a new "easy" gig of protecting some material witness in South Korea. It was revealed later on that both of them were previously working with Interpol but got fired for some reasons and chose to work as body guards instead.

When Yo and Li San were in the hotel with the person they were supposed to guard, they found out that the hotel was already rigged with a bomb, and they had no choice but to run away. Unfortunately the one they were supposed to protect got kidnapped by the bad guys. Using his mad skill of driving, Li San was almost able to capture the kidnappers. But the things became complicated when they were also being chased by 3 people in another car. It was later found out that they were a team of bounty hunters led by the rich heiress with good fighting skill named Cat (Tiffany Tang - A Chinese Odyssey part three, Chinese Paladin 3 TV series etc), who was assisted by the tech specialist Swan (Karena Ng - Ip Man 3) and also Babe (Louis Fan - Ip Man 1 and 2).

After fighting against one another and ultimately let the bad guys escaped, Yo and Li San were captured by Cat's team. Cat tried her best to find out what information they know, and after some heated discussion, finally Yo and Li Shan decided to share their knowledge and Cat also decided to join forces to capture the bad guys and clear their names, since they were all suspected by police over the bombings. While they were doing the investigations which would lead them to Thailand, Hong Kong, China and South Korea, it appeared that Cat developed some sort of romantic feeling towards Li San.

So can Yo and Li San work together with Cat's team who was very bossy? Would Cat and Li San's relationship continue? What was the reason for the bombings which seem to target a certain hotel chain? Find all the answers by watching the movie till ends.

End of Brief Story Line

Well this movie did not disappoint in term of action. I was actually surprised to see that Lee Min-ho was able to perform the fighting scenes quite flamboyantly. Those scenes made him looked as a very skillful martial artist. Perhaps he really is, but if he is not, then the fight choreography was done beautifully. I am not a fan of Lee Min-ho and honestly I never watched any of his movie/TV series. I only know that he is a very famous Korean superstar and there are also a number of advertisements that used him as a star. So at least the first movie that I saw did not disappoint me from action point of view.

Meanwhile, Wallace Chung was quite a comical guy. His portrayal of the easy going Yo in this movie was quite spot on. Whereby the rest of the casts were so so to my opinion. I am quite surprised though to see Louis Fan acting as this kind of character in the movie, but it was fun to see him act like this compared to his usual serious kick ass bad guy portrayal.

The plot of the movie was quite easy to guess, and not a lot of mysterious plots/twists to be expected. The good thing about this movie is that it is a comedy action movie, and it did not try to be more than that. The special effects also were quite decent, though the hotel explosion scenes were not spectacular.

For those who are fans of Lee Min-ho would surely be satisfied watching him in this movie. Though I think the movie did not get the publication as it did not seemed to be a huge success. It is quite brand new movie which was released back in July 2016, so Garuda airlines were pretty generous to show such new film in their inflight entertainment.

So if you are looking for comedy action movie with pretty good fighting scenes, then you can certainly watch this one. But if you do not enjoy such movie and prefer to see Lee Min-ho playing in drama movies / TV series, then this one is not suitable for you.

Happy watching!
