Crayon Shin-chan: Fast Asleep! Dreaming World Big Assault! - Another New Animated Movie from the Popular Manga Character

Another one animated movie from popular manga & anime hit the Indonesian cinemas this week. This time, it was from the very popular character in Indonesia, Crayon Shin-chan. I was not a real big fan of Crayon Shin-chan in term of the drawing as I believe it was not having the best/highest quality. However, I could not say that I do not enjoy the silly crazy things that Shin-chan does. Which is why when the movie played, I was thinking of watching it next weekend as my wife and I were having our staycation this week. But as my wife's function was cancelled at the last minute, suddenly she was free to accompany me and it was decided that we would watch this movie in Blitz Grand Indonesia (as I explained in Mike's cinema option, I enjoy watching on Sundays in Blitz theater as we could have the bank promotion of buy 1 get 1 free ticket). So without further ado, below are my views of the movie.

Brief Story Line

Movie started with the scene where Shinnosuke (Shin-chan), his father Hiroshi, his mother Misae and his little sister Hima were sleeping and all having their own dream. The dream that they were having all started with good dream which were funny especially Shin-chan's dream. However all of them were disrupted in the end by giant fish who was pursuing them in dream and made them awake in the morning. It was found out later that everyone in town were having the same type of dream with giant fish pursuing them in the end.

Later at school that day, a new student named Saki was introduced by Ms. Nanako (the "love interest" of Shin-chan) to the whole kindergarten class. She seemed to be a very cool new girl and all the boys including Shin Chan's best friends Kasama, Masao and even Bo-chan were interested in her. This created a little competition and jealousy of Nene-chan who used to be the only girl that the boys were interested in. These created a lot of hilarious moments at school. Unfortunately, Saki seemed to be very difficult to deal with as she was cold towards others and considered her new friends as not to intelligent.

At night, the bad dreams started again but this time the whole city were drowning in collective dreams into the dream world. Everyone could see anyone and Shin-chan's friends all joined in this 1 big giant dream. They were all like riding on dream energy where the children's energy were bigger than the adults' energy. Again the dreams were all so crazy but funny as well. This time we were shown that the collective dreams were done by Saki's father using a special dream machine. The adults dreams were fast becoming nightmares while the children's dreams which were all fun were sucked by the machine created by Saki's father. This condition made all the adults feeling tired and stress every time they woke up and some children already experiencing nightmares as well.

Meanwhile, Shin-chan and Nene always tried their best to ensure Saki could become part of their gang called Kasubake Defence Group. Their first task would be to find out why these nightmares were spreading in their town. This would create conflict in Saki's heart as she felt guilty of befriending these new kids while at the same time, she and her father were the ones creating the nightmares across the city.

So what was the reason for Saki & her father to do this? Would Shin-chan and the others find out that it was due to Saki & her father causing the nightmares? And how would Saki deal with her own problem? Find them all in this movie.

End of Brief Story Line

Well if you have read the manga or saw the cartoon before, you would know already what kind of fun slapstick vulgar humor you would find when you watch this movie. It had all the same formula of Shin-chan delivering the usual crazy dirty jokes. Even Kazama (the smart one in their group) was able to put the perfect sentence to describe Shin-chan when he said something like "was he really a 5 year old boy?".

Aside from those dirty jokes, we also were given the various crazy stunts that Shin-chan's parents did and even Hima with Shiro (Shin-chan's dog) were having quite a lot of scenes. But overall the main attraction here seemed to be Shin-chan's jokes. However, there was not much to be enjoyed other than that. There was a brief touching moment before the end of the movie, and I guess the movie was trying to show some lesson that could be learnt about parent's unconditional love.

So if you want to enjoy some of those classic Shin-chan moments and do not mind crazy unrealistic plot, then you certainly can enjoy this movie. A reminder though that despite the star was a 5 year old kid, this movie really is not suitable for kids. Some of the humors are really adult humors. Which is why again I was surprised that some children are allowed to enter into the studio. But if you are really not into such movie, or you enjoy better quality anime movies, then it's better if you watch some other cartoon movie

The choice is yours!

Mike's movie moments rating: 3 out of 5 stars
