See For Me - An Interesting Enough Thriller Movie

I was interested in this movie when I saw its trailer a couple of times earlier. So I kind of looking forward to the movie's release. But it had its premier date on Friday when I was feeling a bit reluctant to go out after work day. Hence I decided to see it only on Saturday. Anyway, here's more on the movie.

Brief Story Line

Sophie Scott (Skyler Davenport) was a skier who had to retire early when she was diagnosed with an illness that cause blindness. Feeling frustrated, she preferred to do freelance jobs rather than trying for the paralympic. She later answered an ad to do a cat-sitting job for a wealthy woman named Debra (Laura Vandervoort - Jigsaw, Bitten TV series etc) while she was away on holiday.

Unfortunately what seemed to be a simple job turned out to be dangerous for Sophie when some people led by a guy named Rico (Kim Coates - Sons of Anarchy TV series etc) broke in the house. Feeling helpless, Sophie sought the help from a helper in the apps for visually impaired called See For Me named Kelly (Jessica Parker Kennedy - The Flash TV series etc).

So what would happen to Sophie? You can find them all in this thriller movie.

End of Brief Story Line

This movie turned out to be just like what I expected. It was quite thrilling and suspenseful with a simple enough story that did not overly complicate things. The early introduction of the lead character Sophie was done efficiently and it immediately made us understand the frustration she felt. The wonderful thing was even though it was not till one third of the movie to get to the really interesting part, somehow I did not feel it to take too long.

I also felt that the apps See For Me was something that did not feel like too much of a stretch, which only enhanced the realistic feeling of the film. I found out earlier that the lead cast Skyler Davenport is visually impaired and it somehow made me more convinced of the whole situation she was in during the break in. Btw, Skyler previous works were mostly as voice actor in anime series or video games and this is the first time she played the lead character. I also felt Jessica Parker Kennedy provided well enough performance with her worry on Sophie seemed truly genuine.

The suspense of seeing how Sophie would survive during this home invasion was definitely the highlight of the movie, combined with a bit of drama of her personal struggle and the proper use of technology. The one thing that I felt could have been better was some of the scenes were too dark which made it a bit difficult to see, especially during the critical part towards the end. The movie had a brief duration of only 92 minutes without any mid or post end credit scene. It had an ending that was a bit surprising to me with one small detail did not seem to be cleared. But I guess it was not considered that important.

The movie was directed by Randall Okita whose prior works were short movies. It was a Canadian production and first premiered in the Tribeca Film Festival and seemed to be pretty well received with critics praising Skyler's performance. Overall to me this was an interesting movie with simple plot and quite suspenseful. It might not be truly intense like other home invasion movies but it was still pretty enjoyable. So if you are looking for something like this, then you can give it a try. It is currently playing only in one cinema chain in Indonesia.
