Avengers: Endgame - The Perfect Ending!

One of the most anticipated movie of the past few years had finally reached Indonesian cinemas this week. In an unprecedented event, the movie was having its advance ticket sales 1 week before, as opposed to the usual previous weekend. And to top it off, the sale started from 12AM where some shows starting as early as 5AM for 24 hours. Unfortunately since my wife and I were not aware of how early the tickets were being sold, we did not get the chance to buy the online tickets for its first day premier on 24 April. But we were fortunate enough to still got them for the following day. Anyway last night we saw this movie in my favorite theater with Dolby Atmos sound system. Well let us get on now.

Brief Synopsis

After the events in Avengers: Infinity War, the remaining heroes such as Tony Stark/Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr), Captain America (Chris Evans), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Natasha/Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), Bruce Banner/Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) and Rhodey/War Machine (Don Cheadle) were looking for ways to reverse the effects done by Thanos (Josh Brolin). Joined by other heroes who also managed to survive like Nebula (Karen Gillan), Rocket (Bradley Cooper) and Captain Marvel (Brie Larson), they worked hand in hand and did whatever it take to save the world once again.

End of Brief Synopsis

At last, after 11 years of going through more than 20 movies, we finally got to see the conclusion. And it was a truly wonderful and amazing conclusion really worth the wait. The story was fantastic, awesome and really emotional which truly summed up our feelings. What amazed me was how the movie makers were able to provide a balanced story on each of the original Avengers. Yes, this one was more focused on those heroes which I thought was a great move, especially since we fell in love with Marvel movies because of them in the first place. It felt like a wonderful appreciation to the hard works they had done to bring the beloved characters alive all these years.

For about 3 hours, we got to experience an emotional ride seeing how devastated our favorite heroes after losing the war with Thanos and how they got to pick up the pieces and look for ways to defeat him. All the theories in my mind about how it would be done was somehow shattered as it was totally unpredictable (which was what I really loved in a movie). I was a bit surprised they managed to pull it off and still able to convince me it was possible. Although it might not be entirely accepted by theorist/scientists, but fans of MCU would not care about it anyway.

Throughout the whole movie, I felt there were quite a lot of dramatic and touching scenes, which gave us some emotional time and affected my wife numerous times. The early part of the movie was not really what I expected, nevertheless it was a good build up to the finale we have been waiting for. It was a real grand finale, a just end, a lovely and proper conclusion for us. I might have loved it even more had the first half been having more actions, but the ending was so spectacular that I could disregard them and enjoyed the full movie. There was one favorite scene involving Captain America that the audience really appreciated & clapped their hands (including my wife who did that few times towards the end).

The movie though, was not always emotional and gloomy. It was also having some fun moments as well, surprisingly from Thor. The actions were again top notch as usual with some well done special effects and quite spectacular sound effects from Dolby Atmos system. Amazingly my wife and I managed to hold going to the rest room for 3 hours (though we reduced the amount of liquid we drank as we simply did not want to miss any moment). Even the audience were great as they were able to hold using their mobile phones and restricted their voices to the minimum. Oh btw, as it was rated PG-13, I thought there were some scenes that might not be suitable for the really young children and it might be a little tough on them for a 3 hours movie as well. So if you have an option, I thought it would be better to only let the bigger children to see this film.

As usual for a Marvel movie, there would be the cameo appearance of Stan Lee which to my understanding was his last performance before he passed away (RIP Stan Lee). But there was no mid or post end credit scene which I thought was kind of a surprise, though understandable as I think it was to give audience a proper time to really absorb the whole movie without the distraction of possible future.

Overall, this was a really amazing movie. To quote what my wife said, "it was a memorable film". I was really proud to be part of the history of such an extraordinary feat that began 11 years ago with the movie Iron Man. Something that may take many many years to achieve or exceed. It also left me with a bitter sweet feeling. The emotion and satisfaction of witnessing some of the great moments in movie history but also the sad feeling that it had to end. It was like a feeling of completing my favorite series finale. Even when writing this post, I was still having the emotional sense. So if you want to complete your whole Marvel Cinematic Universe experience, definitely you have to see this one.
