Exterritorial - Decent Enough Netflix Original Action Thriller

I have seen the poster to this movie some time back in the coming soon section of Netflix with a brief synopsis that intrigued me. Three days ago it was finally released but I already had my heart set on seeing different movie and continuing another series, so I only watched it last night. All right, I'll just get on it now.

Brief Story Line

Sara Wulf (Jeanne Goursaud - Barbarians TV series, The Chemistry of Death TV series etc) was a former Germany special forces who was suffering from PTSD after a failed mission. When she was recruited for a security job in the US, Sara decided to apply for her work visa in the US Consulate in Frankfurt together with her 7 year old son Josh (Rickson Guy Da Silva).

After leaving Josh for few minutes, Sara was shocked when he went missing. Despite the help from regional security officer Eric Kynch (Dougray Scott - Batwoman TV series, Ripley's Game etc), they could not find Josh anywhere. Unable to convince everyone in the Consulate, Sara decided to stay in there illegally to look for Josh. With the unexpected help from Irina (Lera Abova - Anna, Pitch Perfect: Bumper in Berlin etc) who had her own problem, they had to hide and search for him before being captured and put in jail.

So how would the story conclude? You could find out in this movie.

End of Brief Story Line

Hmm what can I say about this movie? I was probably expecting a nonstop thrilling action film when I read the synopsis. Turned out that its action was decent enough but not that frequent & spectacular, plus the thrill was not truly felt by me. It might be due to the fact I already foresaw all the supposed twists from early stage, so I did not have any shocked feeling when they were finally revealed.

The main plot of Sara looking for Josh seemed pretty straight forward at first, but it was later made more complicated with additional sub-plot. It was still OK as long as you do not expect it to be very sophisticated. One good thing about the film was the attention to detail of Sara's way of moving around the consulate which I thought was weird at first. I would have been disappointed if they did not give clarity on this. I noticed that the writer was also director of this movie, i.e Christian Zübert (Lammbock, Tour de Force etc).

I have never seen Jeanne Goursaud before despite her playing in few popular series, so I do not have any reference of her before. But I thought she was OK enough here, particularly in term of fighting which looked good. The person whom I was familiar with was obviously Dougray Scott in his first ever German speaking role. The other support character was Gunnery Sergeant Donovan (Kayode Akinyemi - Vikings: Valhalla TV series etc), General Consul Deborah Allen (Annabelle Mandeng - Biester TV series etc) and few in minor capacity.

Overall this was a decent action thriller that might be entertaining if you just want to enjoy your free time without having so much to think. The story was simple with some predictable twists. The action was so so, except for one scene that showed a bit of brilliance from the director during the truck scene. It has a duration of 109 minutes which included closing credits without any mid or post end credit scene. So if you are interested in a Germany Netflix original movie with the above attributes I mentioned, then you could give it a try. It seemed to be popular enough as it became Top 10 in Indonesia.
